I know this is a long shot, but is there a way for me to find this info out about a religious affiliation?

I thought at one time that I heard that my grandmother, Edna Elliot (Rash) Fournier, was an anabaptist or something in that genre but left her church to become a catholic to marry my grandfather, Joseph Fournier, but I am not sure and I would really like to find out.

Is there some way to look up last names in a church database for Mennonite/Anabaptist or the like?

Thanks for reading, hope someone can help. :D

Her parents are Ira and Mattie Menefee and her siblings are Mary, Caroline, and Ira Jr. Last known whereabouts was that she lives in Arizona but we are not sure where. All of her brothers and sisters have passed on so we have no way of finding her. I would appreciate any info that someone might have in helping us locate her.

Hello from Australia
I have just read your post and was wondering if we may have a connection?. I'm trying to trace James Elliot a shoemaker who was married to Catherine Reilly. They had a daughter Margaret Elliot born in Ireland or Scotland around 1810.
Margaret Elliot married William Hamilton and then Thomas Hunt about 1835.
I realise this is probably a long shot but thought perhaps James Elliot may have married twice!
Regards Kay

1856 letter to Jane (Mrs. John) ELLIOT of Sennett, New York

I recently found an old envelope that Jane (Mrs. John) ELLIOT of Sennett, New York received from
Darlington, England in 1856 (spelled ELLIOTT in various censuses). You can see the envelope on www.philgen.org (search on SENNETT, click on View, and scroll to the bottom of the page). I want to determine if Darlington, England is the birthplace of Jane or her husband John and if this envelope is helpful to someone in their genealogical research. The reason I have a photo of the envelope is because of my interest in using old envelopes and postcards in genealogical research. I have an article in the spring 2009 issue of New England Ancestors entitled Philatelic Genealogy and have started the philgen website. I do not know if the letter that was in the envelope still exists.

Sheldon M. Elliott, 83, of Henderson, passed away April 4, 2009

SHELDON ELLIOTT Sheldon M. Elliott, 83, of Henderson,Nv passed away April 4, 2009. He was born Jan. 12, 1912, in New York City, and was a 31-year resident of Nevada. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a Jewish War Veteran. "Shorty" was a Jack of all trades, with a career including sales, the casino industry and recycling. He was a loud New Yorker, strong, stubborn, generous, outrageous and well liked by all. "If you asked him what time it was, he would tell you how to build a watch." He loved coffee, cooking, solitaire, reading the paper, watching TV, his dogs and taking care of his family. He did things his way and didn't care what others thought, but we all thought the world of him. Sheldon was preceded in death by his mother, Sally Krieger-Umlauf; and his sister, Burnice Aronarwitz. He is survived by his wife, Patricia (72); his daughter, Rachel (34); sons, Levi (33) and Abraham (32); and nephews, Joel and Gary. Services will be at 10:40 a.m. Tuesday, April 14, at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Buchanan Blvd., Boulder City, NV 89005. Shiva will follow at the family's home.
HI Kristi,
Lets correspond directly, OK? I have found Deborah's burial place and which I may have shared with you, but no will which I would not expect to find one for Deborah. Most women, but not all, did not have wills. And David JR died unexpectedly so no will has ever been found for him. I have the Beekman Patent Book and there is no daughter listed for David and Deborah, it states that there was David, Deborah and son, Peter. So I don't know but it certainly is not impossible. I would like to correspnd directly as I said, my email addy is melanie1@verizon.net
Talk to you soon
Melanie

Archibald Elliot - Newcastle upon Tyne - 1891

I am trying to find further details about my great great grandfather Archibald Elliot. The known facts are;
Born 1838 in Blaydon, Durham.
He was living and working in Newcastle Upon Tyne in 1891 as a machinist at engineers.
Home address then was 8 Sidney Grove, Elswick.
I know for certain that he had one daughter, Catherine Elliot, but am not sure about her date of birth. Possibly 1874.
I would like to find details about his wife and any other children he may have had.
According to the 1891 Census he had a housekeeper and a servant and I am curious to know how a machinist in those days could afford a housekeeper and servant (I am certain of these details in the census as my grandfather [Archibald Elliot Parkinson] was living with him at the time).

I'm looking for any and all information on the sisters ( whole or half) of Mary Elizabeth "Sis" Elliot. Trying to find the grandmother of John Joseph Whisenant(born in 1881). He was either born North of Florence, AL or Around Sand Mountain. the Elliot tie would have died in or around the Sand Mountain area around 1881 + along with the rest of the Whisenant's over some property dispute. I would appreciate any and all information that I can get from this.

Thanks, Susan

Gilbert Elliot, born about 1840

In a branch of the Elliots of Minto, Frederick Augustus Hugh Elliot, born in 1847, and two sisters, were born to Francis Edward Elliot and his wife, Constance Alice Impey.

I have seen a pair of portraits of two boys, who are said to be Frederick and his (elder) brother.

A family tree of Helen Stuart, born about 1702, who married a (different) Gilbert Elliot, shows four children in that marriage, one of whom was Gilbert E. Elliot. Family legend is that the elder brother committed some social misdemeanour, and was sent to Australia.

The 'Stewart' family tree refers to a wife or partner for Gilbert, Bertha Gibson, and one child.

Can anyone, either in UK or Australia, throw any light on this Gilbert (which is in fact a very common Elliot fore-name)?

Regards, ML

Re: David Elliot of Kingsbury, Washington, New York

Thank you for shedding light on what for me has been a great mystery.

For years, I have been searching for the parents of Sarah Elliot born Aug. 13, 1769 in Dover, Duchess Co., N.Y. In 1796, she was married to Thomas Parker in Cayuga County, N.Y. This young couple bought a parcel of land together with a Benjamin Elliot on the border of Cayuga and Onondaga County.

Benjamin Elliot had moved to Cayuga County about 1794 from Kingsbury, Washington Co. I knew there was some kinship between Sarah Elliot and Benjamin, but he was not old enough to be her father. Your information suggests Sarah may have been his niece -- perhaps a daughter of the late David, Jr. who had died in Kingsbury in 1793 and his widow, Deborah Elliot.

In 1800, Benjamin Elliot (brother of Deborah Elliot), Laban Elliot (Deborah's brother-in-law) are listed in the census of Marcellus, Onondaga Co., N.Y.

In 1800, Thomas Parker and Sarah Elliot Parker are listed in Cayuga County on the same page as a Gideon Elliot (either Deborah Elliot's brother or her son).

By 1810, Laban Elliot is listed in Cayuga Co. on the same page as Thomas Parker and Sarah Elliot in the township of Brutus, Cayaga Co. This is the village where Thomas and Sarah Elliot Parker's first children were born.

It appears that Peter Elliot ad David Elliot were in Owasco, Cayuga County. at that time. By 1820, David had moved to Italy, Ontario Co. and David had moved to Prattsburg in Steuben Co. -- just south of his brother.

Thomas Parker and Sarah Elliot Parker moved west to Huron County, Ohio just before 1820. There son, Reverend Seth Parker born in Brutus, Cayuga County became a Baptist minister in Ohio.

I checked the online records for Segar Cemetery in Prattsburg, Steuben Co., New York. Deborah died 3rd January, 1838 age 88 years, 4 months and 26 days.

Hope this helps....I'd would enjoy sharing infromation.

Kristi

Re: David Elliot of Kingsbury, Washington, New York

Hello again, Melanie,

I continue to work on the possible connection between my gggg-grandmother, Sarah Elliot Parker (b.in Dover, Dutchess Co., N.Y. Aug. 13, 1769) and David, Jr. and Deborah Elliot. I realize that Sarah was not listed on David, Jr.s land lease in the early 1770s in Dutchess Co., but I have just learned more information on Dutchess Co. land lease records and how they were recorded.

Janice Hoy told me she knows of only 3 sons for David Jr. and Deborah -- Peter, David and William.

I have also been corresponding with Dr. Lynn Branvold, another distant Elliot cousin, who is a past coordinator of a Dutchess Co. genealogy site. She is very familiar with the "Settlers of the Beekman Patent" records and tells me the land leases of that periodlisted only 3 "lives" in this case,David,Deborah and, Peter. She said that does not mean the family did not have other children in their household even then.

As you know David, Jr. and family moved to Washington Co. after 1786 when he served in the Beekman Regiment ofDutchess Co.Inthe 1790 census of Kingsbury for David, Jr., there were 2 males over 16, 1 under 16 and 2 females. So they must have had one daughter unless the 2nd female was
a maidservant.

My Sarah Elliot moved west sometime before 1796 when she married Thos.Parker. They soon bought neighboring parcels of land with Benjamin and Submita Elliot. I have copies of these deeds.

In the 1800 census, Deborah's brother, Benjamin Elliot and his cousin Laban Elliot were next door neighbors in Marcellus. Your original message in Ancestry mentioned that Widow Deborah and her children moved west with Laban... In the 1810 census, my Sarah Ellot Parker and her husband are listed on adjacent pages of the census to Laban Elliot.

Benjamin (b. 1754) and Laban (born 1757) are both too young to have been Sarah's father. Prof. Branvold believes that David Elliot, Jr. is the only possible Dutchess Co. Elliot in the previous generation to have been her parent.

I have repeated some of what I told you before, but it has been about 2 years since we corresponded.

Another note of interest, if this theory is correc, Sarah would have been the name of her grandmother (Sarah Provender Elliot) on both her mother's and father's sides.

I hope all is well with you. I will continue to work on this, but proof is difficult as so few Dutchess Co. birth records survive. Have you ever found a will for David or Deborah?

Thanks,

Kristi

Rod,

I am descended from the Elliots of Dutchess Co, Washington Co, Cayuga Co. -- who moved to Ohio about 1820.

Years ago, I read an article in one of the Dutchess Co. histories that some of Washington's troops (no doubt very hungry) descended on some of the local farms around Dover/Pawling. One of the farms belonged to one of our Elliot families. The soldiers killed he livestock, chickens, etc. and basically "wasted" the farm. Shortly after this incident two Elliot families -- that of David and his brother John moved their household to Kingsbury, Washington Co.

How are you related?

Kristi
