I'm not related to the Elliston family but I do have a 1932 photo of Jack Elliston, of the Woodbridge, Ont., area, that might interest someone out there.
The photo is of a group of cadets, and their instructors, after apparently winning a rifle-range competition. It carries the following description:
The Sword of Field Marshall Earl Haig
Winners Public School Cadets 1931-32, Woodbridge, Ont.
Named in the photo are:
Gordon Bagg, Cameron Frankum, Jack Elliston, Lyness Glass, Roscoe Ring, Bill Darker, Charlie McLean, Albert Hollingshead, Kelvin Shore, Alf. Castator, Jack Howarth, George Uppington, Jack Muir, Chas. Tamblyn (Range Officer), Geo. W. Shore (Principal) Ross Cameron, Bert Shore.

Frances Elliston Gestingthorpe Essex

I have a Frances Elliston apparently from OverHall Gestingthorpe in Essex. Wife of Matthew Allen of Ballingdon. Her DOB is unknown to me, but her DOD is 20 July 1873, just a few months after the birth of triplets (all 3 of which died that same year). She is buried in Gestingthorpe as are all the Allens of the next two generations. I am trying to find a possible link to John Elliston (1680-1742)and his wife Catherine (nee Blundell) of Overhall as there appears to be recent suggestions that Frances was from Overhall. However John Elliston and Catherine don't appear to have had any children. Frances was a common name of the daughters of prior John Elliston's, but our Frances would have been born too late to have been from any of them.

I have a copy of the Elliston Ellison Family Book 1988 with 637 pages including the index. We got it when we were still looking for our family roots, before we figured out our Ellington family were actually Ellerton's in Albemarle Co. VA. before they moved to Madison Co, TN.
I would be willing to sell it for $35 plus postage to the first person to contact me. My email address is christip2@suddenlink.net
It is pretty heavy and I don't know what postage would be, but I would guess probably if sent by media mail, less than $20..maybe much less. I would have to box it up and check with the post office.
Christi Partee
I just tied into this family a week ago and am having a difficult time finding the parents of my third great grandmother, Maria Elliston born about 1801 in Northumberland County, Virginia, died before 1856. She married John Nelms on 27 Dec 1811 in Northumberland County, Virginia. He was born about 1785,died before Nov 1856 in Northumberland. They had at least two children, Mary born 1828 and Jane born about 1830,both born in Lancaster County, Virginia. Would appreciate it if you would look in the Elliston Ellison book and tell me if Maria and her parents are there.

Thank you,

Brandy

They were in Northumberland, Moreau, Edinburgh. Trying to tie any of these families into my George W. and Mary Miller that left in the 1830's and went to Michigan.

I'm currently looking for more information about a Thomas Ellisden/Elsden who married Elizabeth Thorn in Wherstead,Suffolk April 23 1738. They had a number of children in Bramford,Suffolk from 1738-1762 and I believe Thomas died in Bramford July 27th 1771.

The records suggest Thomas came from Claydon,Suffolk and would have been born sometime around 1714(?) but there is no sign of him or any possible family in the parish records...

I have a fair bit of information on my Ellesden/Elsden/Elliston ancestors in the Bramford/Copdock/Washbrook/Holbrook areas and I'm happy to share this with any interested people...

Thanks

Dave.

50% off cost of DNA test kit thru June 24, 2009
Through this Wednesday, June 24, 2009, the company that is co-ordinating our Ellison/Elliston/Allison DNA Project is offering more than a 50% reduction in the price of the combined 37 marker Y-chromosome DNA test and the maternal matrilineal (mtDNA test). The Y-DNA test traces your father's direct paternal line and the mtDNA test traces your mother's direct maternal line.

I have been traveling and am late in posting this news, but I want to inform all Elliston men who are not yet members of the Ellison/Elliston/Allison DNA Project and have been thinking about ordering a DNA test kit that for a few more days there is this great opportunity to order a DNA test kit at a very reduced price.

Any Elliston male who is interested in ordering a DNA test kit can use the link below to submit your name, mailing address, e-mail address, etc. to order a DNA sample kit to be mailed to you and join the Allison/Ellison DNA Project.
http://www.familytreedna.com/surname_join.asp?code=H99693

Scroll down to COMBINED - Y-CHROMOSOME AND MTDNA TESTS. Then you'll see
Y-DNA37+mtDNA $119. This is the test you would want to order.

The method of obtaining the DNA cells is simple and painless and doesn't involve any drawing of blood. The type of DNA that is analyzed for genealogical purposes doesn't provide any data about medical conditions. The DNA testing company sends a small tube with Q-tip-like swabs to each participant. All that needs to be done is to swab the inside of the cheek to collect some cells, replace the swabs in the tube and mail it back to the company. In about 8 weeks the company informs the participants about the results and lets them know if their score matches anyone else in the DNA database. If your score is a clsoe match to one or more men with the Elliston, Ellison or Allison surname, you have found a long-lost cousin.

There are now more than 110 men who are members of the Ellison/Elliston/Allison DNA Project, so your DNA score may match one or more current members with whom you can share genealogical information and learn more about your early ancestry. The 110+ participants live in England, Scotland, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the United States.

I'll be happy to answer your questions. I look forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes,

Mary Allison Yonan
Co-administrator, Allison/Ellison DNA Project
yonan at fgi.net

Allison/Ellison/Elliston DNA Project Results Webpage:
http://freepages.family.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~allisonelliso...
Elliston in Woolpit, Suffolk 1796

my gggrandmother Jane Elliston,b 1796 married in Woolpit, and lived in Elmswell, Suffolk where her husband's family (Robert Wright) was seated. There are other Ellistons of her generation in the Woolpit area, who intermarried with the Wright family, and the Mulley family. I am hoping to find others researching this line to prove some connections, and hopefully, Jane Elliston's parentage.
Others possibly related: Thomas Elliston, 1792,married Mary Mullen; their son ThomasElliston(Wyverstone, Suffolk) married Rebecca Wright; Robert Wright's parents were George Wright and Bridget Mulley, both from Elmswell. I think Susannah Wright(1770) who married William Mulley, and George Wright, who married Bridget Mulley, may be siblings, because William and Bridget are siblings. I hope also that Thomas Elliston, b 1792, and Jane Elliston, b 1798 are siblings or cousins, as their children married each other.
Their grandson William Elliston married a Mulley.

I too am looking for Ellistons. My grandfather was Albert born in 1914 raised in the Barking area. His father was Harry and from his marriage cert must have been born approx 1881 he married Frances Ellen Pearkes in 1904. Again on this marriage cert it says Harrys father was also Harry Elliston and he was a caretaker. I too am really struggling to find anything conclusive, wondered it there was a link anywhere?
