Did you ever find anything about George A Ellsworth, known as "Lightning"? He was the telegraph operator for Gen John Hunt Morgan of the 2nd KY Confederate Cavalry. George was born in Canada. Was he really related to your John Wesley Ellsworth? I have a lot of info on George but have never located him in any census records.
Patricia in Texas

I realize this is 3 years late but just noticed it. Wesson Ellsworth is correct and buried in Worth cemetery in Worth NY. Angeline Barney is also correct. She was my wife's great great Aunt because she was originally married to James Webb. So she is Angeline D. Barney Webb Ellsworth. She is buried in Brookside cemetery in Watertown NY section S. I believe that Jay Ellsworth was the son of Wesson and Angeline. He is also buried in Brookside in Watertown. I don't know what the connection to Harold was but I have visited all these graves and even have pictures of some of them.

Ellsworth- Swartz in Potter county, Pa and Ellsworth in Orange CA

I am hoping to find out more about the first husband of my aunt Mary Swartz.

His name is LeRoy "Roy" William Ellsworth. He was born July 20th, 1889 in Pa. By 1918 he was living in Clymer Twp. Tioga Co. Pa and was married to Mary Swartz daugher of David L. Swartz and Nora Wheeler Swartz of Potter Co. Sometime between 1910 and 1918

Roy's mother's name was Kibourn also spelled Kilbert. He died we think in Orange, CA. on July 19, 1955 most likely buried there as we can't find him buried with his parents and brothers and sisters in Tioga Co. Pa.

Roy's SS# is 555-301-1383 if this is the correct Roy and we think it is.

If any of you Ellsworth's out there can lay claim to this particular Roy Ellsworth please contact me. I would be most interested in hearing from you. I would particularly like to find his obit and find out if he ever remarried again after his divorce from Mary.

In 1920 they lived in Trumansburg, NY and they operated a confectionary store there. By 1930 they were no longer living as husband and wife and she was living in Niagara Falls, NY.

I hope someone can help me. Then I would be able to close the door on this elusive family.

Joan Beebe Meddaugh
Candor, NY

Always searching for Beebe, Swartz, meddaugh, Hills, Scott, Misner, Lucas, and many more members of our large and interesting family
Hi,

My records indicate that Donald Ellsworth died on 5 Oct 2007 and he had been living in Saugerties for several years. He was married to Adelaide who died in October 2005 and also was predeceased by a son David. We were in the same graduating class at Kingston High School. I am also an Ellsworth family genealogist but have not connected this family to mine. We also lived in the same neighborhood as kids.

Sonia
Re: Elsworth/Ellsworth, Samuel, Ulster Co., NY & Michigan 1787-1862

First, I want to say that I am not related to this family, and I, therefore, have no particular interest in them. I was just trying to offer a little help. Here's something on George and Catherine (Smith) Ellsworth's family in 1870.

1870 U.S. census - Imlay City, Lapeer Co., MI - 19 Sept.
George Ellsworth, age 47, and his wife, Catherine, age 46, were farming. They had real estate valued at $800.00 and personal property valued at $450.00. They both were said to have been born in Canada. Living in the home with them at that time were three children: Charles, age 13, who was born in Canada; Ellen, age 11, who was born in Canada; and Louis, age 6, who was born in Michigan.

Since Louis was said to have been born in Michigan, that means that the family was probably in Michigan by about 1864.

Good luck to you in doing your research.
I can give you her background, she is the daughter of Chauncey/Chaney Ellsworth/Elsworth and Deliah Craig. Born 17 Sept 1868-12 Feb 1946 married John Calvin Barrett. Have tried to access the picture and will try again as this is a direct relative and so appreciate your doing this...if you ever run into anything that looks like her father's grave, this would be a true 'happen'
thanks-
Patsy

I don't know much more on my George Ellsworth and have not yet been able to find a death certificate for him in Ont. I was hoping by this point to find some children or grandchildren of George's son, Frederick who died during WW1 as I know he had a couple of children. I have found from the 1881 Ont Canada census George is the son of George (born in England) & Sarah. I don't have much more on this family.

I have an Alvah James Ellsworth born 1863 or 1864 in Ohio but there seems to be some mystery to his parents on marriage recorded as Edward Thomas and a Debra to family records record him with a connection to Quebec and Vermont as well on a death record from Ontario 1926 it records father as George?? realize that death doesn't always say right things because the person that knew died but, the record has a name under the George scratched out and the George seems to be written in by the records office official?? would like to connect this the right way and somehow the other family information just doesn't fit well with the dates and such any help greatly appreciated. His children had names that do not all match up with the Wife's parentage but could possibly connect with Alvah's family. thanks k
