Family Pictures and Genealogical Help

I am looking to find any information about Adam Hunter (1796 Ireland-1876 Iowa) and his spouse Elizabeth Morrison (1806 Pennsylvania-1890 Iowa). Primarily if anyone know the parents of these individuals along with if anyone has scanned pictures of them and any of their 12 children. I come from Nancy Agnes Hunter and Julius Demetrius Hill line down to Emma Rachel Hill and Sewell Gower Ellyson.
I have never seen pictures of any of these individuals with exception to Emma Hill Ellyson. Any help would be really wonderful. Thank you, Brian Ellyson

Hi Betty,

I have some info you may be interested in. Julian's children were Edna Delight (my grandmother), Alvie (who was killed at 19 by a drunk driver while riding a motorcycle), and Ethel. Edna Delight married Wesley Wehrung (my grandfather). They had three children, Irene, June, and Glenn. Ethel married Paul Bales and had a child Paul Mike Bales. I probably have more information and a number of photographs of them that I have scanned.

-brian

Thanks again, Sharon.
Several years ago a young woman in Texas, Lisa Allison, snail-mailed me 130+ pages re the Ellyson/Ellison/Allison family. Most of the research credits were to Carl Ellison, author of ALLISON/ELLISON SCOTTISH COUSINS. I can't really claim to have done research except through Google, e-mails with other descendants: i.e., I haven't read any of the documents you've mentioned. Therefore, I greatly appreciate all the time and work you've spent researching the family.
My husband's mother's surname was Allison, daughter of William Milburn Allison (12), son of William Franklin (11), son of James Anderson (10), son of John A.(9), son of James (8), son of Robert (7), son of Robert Ellison (6), son of John (5), son of Gerrard Robert(4), son of Gerrard Robert (3), son of Robert (2), son of John (1) re the file Lisa Allison sent. After, however, reading your entries, I believe there's a mistake in this 'lineup'. This file shows the first Gerrard Robert being married to Sarah Spence, his birth year not shown: died about 1700. The 2nd Gerrard Robert is shown as being born in 1659, died before 1727, and the husband of Anne Myhill.

Angelyn
Thank you VERY MUCH, Sharon, for taking time to reply to my query. Actually, I did think you were very clear in your previous postings: I was just having problems with others such as Susan Ellison McMahan who posted Gerrard Robert Ellyson II marrying Sarah unknown and that he was the son of Gerrard Robert Ellyson and Anne Myhill and RCKarnes posting Gerard Robert Ellyson, father Robert Ellyson, mother Eliza, marrying Anne Myhill, at Ellyson Resources at Rootsweb after I 'clicked' World Connect. I was momentarily confused by Gerrard Robert 1 and 2, but no Robert Gerrard. Mr. Karnes wrote of the seizure of a gun from Gerard Robert and cites Encyclopedia of Quaker Genealogy, Vol VI, Henrico Monthly Meeting, Page 173. He shows Gerard Robert Ellyson married Anne Myhill, dau of John Myhill of Elizabeth City Co (Genealogies of Viginia Families, Volume 1, Ellyson family, page 687).
Thank you again.
Angelyn
angelync@cox.net

Sharon, I hope you're still 'on board' as I'm about to get totally confused about Gerrard Robert and Robert Gerrard and which married Anne Myhill, which married Sarah Spence. I went to Ellyson Resources at Rootsweb, clicked World Connect, and 'sifted' through 15 pages of entries. Many referred to Gerrard Robert I or Senior, and Gerrard Robert II. One entry showed 28 Sept. 1671 that Mr. Thomas Viccars was appointed guardian of Gerrard Robert Ellyson, son and orphan of Robert Ellyson (and Hannah Gerrard/Jarrett) Another interesting entry showed Gerard Robert Elyson reporting in 1718 that he suffered the seizure of a gun and a pair of stialiards (?) for refusing to pay the Priest's wages.
I am trying to complete an Ellyson/Allison file for my husband and other Allison descendants and would really like to enter the correct information on "who was who"! Thanks in advance for any help you can give in clarifying the two men and what resources you used to determine which was which, their brides, dobs. 'Am finding lots of discrepencies among researchers.

Angelyn Cunningham.

I am looking for information on the following Ellison/ Allison cScherry,
If you are still on the Allison forum, you might mention this family. In looking through old notes, I found I had written down that "Robert Allison, a native of Scotland, who died in Bedford June 2 1832, age 84 years, 8 mo. 29 days. My reference is Janna and NBNDA page 283 Bedford Co Will and Vital Records from newpaper sources. I don't remember the discussion with Janna, but may have found her on the forum. This was a few years back.
This was the Robert from NC who served in Rev. war. Evidently his son Robert Jr. married Sarah Ogilvie who was from Granville NC. Not sure where Granville is located.
Just re-looking at material I found on the internet, I noticed that Sarah and Elizabeth Williams were both Allisons and married brothers named Williams. They are found in Bedford Co TN or Marshall County where the land that my Alexanders migrated to----on the Duck River at Spring Creek.

Now, remember that early Bedford Co data on Robert Allison who received land for military service in NC from Wm Chaves. I think I have identified his origin----He mentions his daughter Elizabeth Williams and son in law William Williams.
I am attaching this file I found on the internet which identifies him as Robert and wife Sarah Ogilvie Allison. Also, note menton in file of being on Spring Creek and Marshall Co files.

I am inclined to believe that the other early Bedford Allison--listed as Ellison was related to this Robert.
Could there be a relation to this Ellison from Va.

ELLYSONs in 1800's New Kent

I am looking for the connections of the ELLYSONs in the early 1800's in New Kent County. There are several listed in the 1850 census who I suspect are brothers but have no proof. They are Daniel (ca 1800-1868/9); Abner (? - bef 1850); Havilah (ca 1806 - ); and James (ca 1791 - , nephew of Margery Ellyson). Daniel is my GGG Grandfather and descendents of Abner considered Daniel's grandchildren their "cousins."

There is no evidence that the wife of Quaker Gerrard Robert Ellyson was Sarah Spence. She is only referred to as "Sarah" in the Quaker records. If you attempt to estimate the ages of John, Dr. Robert, and Gerrard Robert Sr, it is possible that there was another generation between John and Dr. Robert. This leads me to believe that perhaps Capt. Robert and Dr. Robert were father and son and not the same person. There is no way to prove this, one way or another.

Since Mrs. Irwin's accuracy as to her other ancestors seems to be accurate, is it reasonable to question one generation? We do not know the source of her information, only that she recorded it. Perhaps she did not do it from memory, but from another recorded source. I, too, descend from Quaker Gerrard Robert Ellyson, through his son William. Mrs. Irwin's record confirmed many suspicions that I have had for about 20 years.

Robt Gerrard Ellyson

I have just read through the long exchange of 2002 about Robert Ellyson of Maryland and Virginia, his son Gerrard Robert, the Quakers and so forth and so on. I have read genealogists records, original sources, secondary sources, conflicting sources, bible records, marriage records, Quaker records, English records, Scottish records.

Has anyone considered that there might have been several Ellysons coming to Virginia at the same time, and none of them related? We do have John and his wife Ellin in 1624, we also have William aged 44 in 1624. Then we have our friend Robert, about whose parents we clearly do not have definitive data or even hearsay of that generation, who married but certainly not Elizabeth Gerrard daughter of Sir Thomas of Westmoreland, because she married John Blackistone in May 1659, just about the time she is supposed to be married to Ellyson, who did not die for another ten plus years.

I've got neat totally inconclusive, footnoted, contradictory material on this on my site under the Ellyson chart.

I consign them all to the devil for the time being and begin with Onan Ellyson in Virginia in 1822, when he got kicked out of a church for drinking.

My grandfather was Theodore Gordon Ellyson, born 1885 in Richmond VA greatgrandson of said Onan.
Greetings,

There are 5 Allison and Ellison males who are participants in the Allison/Ellison/Ellyson DNA project who trace their ancestry back to John Ellison of Windyedge Farm in Lanarkshire, Scotland. .

If you have a male relative with the Ellyson surname, he could participate in the DNA project.

The approaching Holiday Season prompted me to think of suggesting to Allison, Ellyson and Ellison genealogy researchers that you might want to consider giving a unique Christmas present of a DNA test kit this year to an Allison/Ellison/Ellyson male who wants to discover or verify which line of Allisons or Elli(y)sons that he descends from.

There is an on-going Allison/Ellison/Ellyson DNA Family Reconstruction Project that could help Ellyson males determine if he descends from one of the eight (8) distinct Allison/Ellison lines that are represented in our ongoing Allison/Ellison/Ellyson DNA project.

Please contact me if you are interested in further information about the purpose of DNA testing, cost of testing and how to order DNA sample kits.

Happy Holidays to you,

Mary Allison Yonan
Allison/Ellison/Ellyson DNA Project Coordinator
yonan@fgi.net

I cannot verify the 28 children although I have met in 3-4 additional brothers and sisters and have encountered 3-4 more that may be. If you are not from Grant County, IN. You may have another brother with an identical name. He is probably near 30 years old. I have been looking for Ethel Bovie my mother told me she last knew her to be in the Texas area.
Re: Thomas Ellyson

You didn't give any dates, but I will try to help:

There were two Ann Ellyson's born to Thomas Ellyson and his wife Elizabeth Crew, one in 1733 and the second in 1737. Both were born in Virginia. The first Ann probably died young (bef. 1737).

Thomas Ellyson was the son of Gerard Robert Ellyson and his wife Sarah. Thomas was born about 1712 in New Kent Co. (now Hanover), VA. He married Elizabeth Crews 6 Feb 1730/31 at the Weyanoke Meeting House, Charles City, Virginia. Some researchers state that the father of Elizabeth was Robert Crews. I don't know who this Ann Ellyson, b. 1737, married.

I also show that Thomas Ladd, b. 1719 Henrico Co. VA, son of William Ladd and Huldah Binford, married 8 Dec 1761 at the Weyanoke Meeting House, Charles City, Virginia, Ann Ellyson, b. abt. 1723. I don't know who the parents of this Ann Ellyson were. She may have been a widow of an Ellyson or she may be the dau of Thomas Ellyson, above. It is probably a second marriage for both Thomas Ladd and Ann Ellyson.

There does appear to be a lot of confusion but I believe that a pretty good source of this line would be:

The Elizabeth ALLISON ERVIN family bible.

Take note that the following is copyrighted:

59] BIBLE RECORDS
Front Page
ELIZABETH ALLISON ERVIN'S BIBLE
************************************
(This Bible has no section for births, marriages, deaths, but she used blank page to record following).
"My father, Robert Allison, passed 1772. (the name during long years has been spelt, Allyson, Ellison, Elison, Allison, etc.) My mother was Mary Lide or Lloyd, (dtr. to Robt. Lloyd from Wales to Penn. abt 1683).
My grparents were John Allison & Elizabeth Matthews of Va. He being son of
Robt Allison and Ann Myhill.
He being son of
Capt. Robt Allison & Hannah Gerard of Maryland & Va.
He being son of
Robt Allison & Sarah Spence of Va.
He Being son of
JOHN ALLISON, Ellyson b. Windyedge, county Lanark, Scotland, who marr'd with Ellin Hamilton & came to Va. in early days bef. 1625. The first ones of our family lived in Va.& Maryland.
I hereby name my Bros. & Sisters.........
