I am descended from John Shaffer Ellzey, Sr.,your Thomas' brother, through Benjamin Franklin Ellzey, his son, Iverson, Monroe Ellzey, his son, Benjamin Eli Ellzey, and my father, Harry J.T. Ellzey. I was in intrigued to find you had early information on Prudence Lay Ellzey. I only could find information through her g-g grandfather, Williams Grimes I, back only to about 1676. If you are willing, I would be very interested in the additional information you have available. Also, have you ever found any information on Eva Ellzey, Thomas and John Shaffer's grandmother? She is another of the brick walls. John Ellzey, Lewis' father, is another story.

research stopped at a stall of John and Prudence, both b. @ 1730, to whom I am direct descendant. My parent accumulated research and became stalled here, then began focusing on the descendants of the married pair. what hampers most research of ancestry are, common first son, first born, first names of John, William, Thomas and Lewis, as well as nicknames, both known and unknown.

I have begun the ancestry research again to accumulate the 4 paternal and maternal families of my line beginning with John and Prudence. I have completed the Prudence Lay line to the 1100's, though I need to verify.

The data as yet is not book, but hard and verified research of over thirty years, thus I can verify Leon J. and his lineage is noted in my original post.

What other names of your family are you able to provide, just where exactly are you stalled in your research?

Looking for burial site of Ross Ellzey. He died 5 February, 1911 in Tickfaw, LA. His body was shipped to McComb, Mississippi for burial. Many Ellzeys are buried in Hollywood Cemetery but I could not locate his plot. While researching in McComb, another researcher, told me he was possibly buried in Lincoln County, MS in a church cemetery because his second wife was buried there. Does anyone have any information about this? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Denise, I did a little census work on your grandfather, Francis Desales Grayson. I traced him back to parents Solomon (sometimes called Charles) and Florence ? Grayson. Solomon's parents were Jacob Grason/Graison/Grayson (b.1840)and Mary A. Calvert (b. 1850). In 1870 Jacob Grason (age 35) was living in the household of W. Jackson Calvert (age 54), Mary Calvert(26),George Grason (9), Ann Grason (7), Henry (1).
I did find Jacob Grason in the 1860 census but I did find William Jackson Calvert all the way back to 1850. He was a free man of color. This family was in Prince George's Co., MD in all censuses. Solomon registered for the draft in 1918 and 1942 (ancestry.com).
Are you looking for any particular information?

This is what I have found: There was a Claude Ellzey listed in the S.S. Death Index w/ this info. - b. 21 Nov 1919, d. 24 Nov 1994 in Magnolia, Pike Co., MS. Could this be your G grandfather even though the birth date is not 1914? If so, I found a Claude Ellzey (Black, age 10) in the 1930 census (Pike Co, MS) with parents Arther (Black, 37) & Hattie (Black, 28) Ellzey. Following the lead on Arthur Ellzey I found his WWI Draft Registration in 1917 listing him as b. around 1893, Black, age 23, living in Barto, Pike Co., MS, and married.
Based on my search I believe Claude's wife's maiden name may be Varnado instead of Garnado. Can you add anything to this information? Pam

I was wondering if anyone out there knows anything of the Stateline, MS Ellzeys. This is where I have been told my Grandfather was born. His name was Thomas B. Ellzey and his Father's name was Will Ellzey(died in the 1920's or 30's). The family moved to Lake City after my Grandfather's Mother remarried to a man here. I know very little about my Father's family mainly because he dies in 1975 at age 33, I was only 3 years old. With no one left on my father's side of the family, I have no one to ask. Any help would be appreciated. I have a vast family history on my Mother's side (Jones), but practiaclly no knowledge of my surname. Thanks to all for reading.
The subject of Harriett Ellzey is a deep one. Many family members have researched her connection with Evan and mary Ellzey. Evan Ellzey of Orangeburge South Carolina born 1786, was my GGGGrand-Father. I assembled a matrix with the children of Evan and found a period of time that would allow for her to be one of their children. The Census gives Harriett a birth year of around 1813, the older child was born in 1810 and the next younger child was born in 1817. It was not uncommon for women to have children every other year. She would fit right in the slot. What puzzels me the most is the lack of information about her from my side of the family. I have none. Rick Ellzey
Hi,

Yes, there are certain areas of Ancestry.com that you have to pay to access. I have in the past but don't have any paid membership right now.

We were down in McAllen for a year and then back to North Texas.

Will look forward to hearing if you have anything more. I have a couple of possible bits of connecting info that are in another computer that still has not been set up since our last move. It's where most of my genealogy files are. Hopefully, I will get it set up shortly and will get back to you if I find anything more in there. There was something else on possible ELLZEY family connections if I am remembering correctly.

Bellinda

Thanks, Bellinda, for responding. Do you pay to have more access to areas on "Ancestry.com?" I am wondering if I need to subscribe! I will try to find out more about Evan Ellzey and see who his wife was. I think there were two men named Evan and I'm not sure which is my great grandfather. It is so confusing! I will ask my surviving aunts if they know Harriet Ellzey and get back to you ASAP. Feliz Navidad from south of the Rio Grande!
Nancy Bell Ellzey Eudy

Hi,

My paternal great grandmother was:

Rachael Moranda "Randa/Randi" LEWIS, daughter of Harriet ELLZEY and John LEWIS.

Rachael Moranda LEWIS 1st married John Wes(t)ley BRIGHT and then married Spencer B. PARKER, my great grandfather. Apparently, she may have married one or both of them with the surname of COLEMAN but, if so, I'm not sure why. I don't know if there was another marriage to a COLEMAN man or if it may have had something to do with John Wesley BRIGHT abandoning his family and he may or may not have been deceased and they may or may not have been divorced at the time that she married Spencer B. PARKER. Rachael Moranda LEWIS and Spencer B. PARKER were the parents of my paternal grandmother, Allie Artimissa PARKER, born: 1892 near Braxton in Simpson County, Mississippi and married my grandfather, James Martin "Jim" MYRICK, born: 1892 near Magee in Simpson County, Mississippi and they moved to West Carroll Parish, Louisiana.

I, too, am searching for more information on Harriet ELLZEY's ancestry. I have heard that her father EVAN ELLZEY was married to MARY COLLINS according to one set of information supposedly in a family Bible but no other information on that Mary COLLINS and her family.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Bellinda Myrick-Barnett

Moses Lewis b.1815 SC - Elizabeth Ellzey b.1821 SC

Hi all,
I'm trying to track down Moses Lewis b. 1815 SC and his family. They were in Polk Co. Texas in 1860. The 1860 Census list the following children:
George Lewis b.1838 Ms.
Eliza Jane Lewis b.1841 Al.
Howel Lewis b. 1842 Ms.
Irvine Lewis b. 1844 Ms.
Barbara Lewis b. 1848 Ms.
Catherine Lewis b.1851 Ms.
Warren Lewis b. 1854 Ms.
Coleman Lewis b. 1856 Ms.
John Henry Lewis b. 1 July 1860 near Livingston Polk Co.Tx.

Moses Lewis is listed as a Blacksmith on the 1860 Census. It is believed, Elizabeth (surname may be Ellzey) Lewis b.1821 SC, died about 5 days after delivering John Henry Lewis in Polk County Texas.

I also have Moses Lewis married to Ann Crane 27 Oct.1860. I have no information on Ann Crane.

There is a John Henry Lewis listed in the 1880 Census of Navarro County Texas. John Henry married Tula Mae Wilson 2 Oct. 1890 at Big Hill in Limestone County Texas. John Henry died 20 Oct 1936 in Corsicana Navarro County Texas.

Tula Mae Wilson b. 14 March 1875, was the daughter of James Calvin Wilson and Lucy Jane Harris. Tula Mae died 29 Aug. 1945 in Lufkin Texas. Her Grandparents were Jasper Harris and Dora Jenie________. Tula Mae's siblings were:

Addie Wilson m. Will Marsh
Olive (Ollie) Wilson m. _______Baker
Cecil Wilson m. L.J. Curlee
Mamie Wilson m._______Williams
Lilla Wilson m. Joe Ellis
Lorene Wilson m.Fred Blankenship
Calvin Wilson ???
Finis Wilson m. Ruby_______
Joe Wilson m. Mabel _______

John Henry Lewis married once before, name unknown. She was suppose to have died young without having any children.
I don't have any dates at this time or children of John Henry Lewis and Tula Mae Wilson, with the exception of a daughter, Lona Ivy Lewis (no dates at this time). Lona Ivy Lewis married Burl Bircherd (spelling may be wrong) Nowell, my wife's grandparents. My wife's parents are John Henry Lewis Nowell and Hallie Aline Croft daughter of William Croft and Alma Beulah Grantham, my wife is Rebecca Aline Nowell Barfield.
