I am searching for information regarding my great-great grandfather Joseph Elm born in Hogansburg, NY around 1835-1839. His fathers name was John. Joseph and his wife moved to Hastings, Minnesota in the late 1860's. Here they had 13 children and the Elm family in Minnesota grew. Any information on Joseph or John Elm before they came to Minnesota would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Andrew P.
I'm researching the family tree. Originally our name was spelt "Gilogly". When the family moved from Ireland to Scotland the "e" was added to spell "Gilogley". Family (so far) dates back to Owen Gilogly B 1793, Nth Ireland. Maybe we could help each other with info?

Dear Barbara,

It was so good to hear from you. I often wondered where all of my mother's family were still located. I remember as a little girl visiting you in Connecticut and have so many fond memories of visiting Uncle Andrew, Aunt Helen and Little Helen.

I am married and live north of San Diego, California. We have lived here since 1985. I have two sons. Bill, who is presently attending his junior year abroad in Dublin, Ireland at Trinity College. He has been attending Holy Cross in Worcester,
Mass. I miss him so but the year will go by quickly I hope. I also have a younger son, Tim. Tim is 11 years old soon to be
12 next week. We are actually thinking of moving back east in June actually to Connecticut. Tim is high functioning autistic and the school system in California for normal functioning children is 49 out of 50 so you can only imagine how bad the system is for handicapped children. He is presently in a private school for learning disabled and is receiving an excellent education, but it is costly.

It is hard to believe your children are grown and that you have grandchildren. Time has gone by too fast. My brother lives in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania and finally got married in 1990. I had always thought he would be a bachelor and that is something my mom had always worried about. It just took him more time to find someone special. He has no children of his own but is a great Uncle as your father-in-law was to us. Uncle Andrew was always my brother's favorite uncle. It is hard to believe that all of my aunts and uncles are gone on both sides of my family. I know I have tons of cousins but I don't know where they all are. Please take care and when you have a chance write again.
Beverly

Hi Bev:

What a surprise to hear from you. Yes, Jerry and I still live in CT., at the same address for 38 years. We are married 41 years as of last May. You were just a little tyke when we got married. We have two sons, Gary and Wes. Gary is married (to Dana) and they have two children, a boy: Collin (almost 8) and a girl: Cassidy (6).

Tell me about you. Since Helen died we don't get much information on the family anymore. We keep in contact with Earl and Rita (Christmas cards) and we see them maybe once a year. We have not seen them since our 40th anniversary party in May 2000.

Barbara

Hi Barb, I thought the name Earl elm sounded familar. My Father-in-law Don Elm knows he and his wife. Earl also came to my mother-in-laws funeral, about 3 years ago this month. You can reach me At elm4@netzero.net.
The info I have comes from my sister -in-law Donna Elm-Delaney. She got some stuff from Anna Elm.,but she wasn't sure how much was accurate. Thanks for getting back to me. Will wait for your reply, Cindy Braden-Elm

Hi Cindy: We agree. You know more about Peter and Caroline than my husband does. He said Peter had one arm
he lost the other in the mines??? I am trying to put together the part of the family that I know. Maybe
between the two of us we can do a Elm Family Tree. I will get back to you with more information when I get it
written down so I can type it. Just a comment though about the name Von Elm/Von Ulm???? Margaret their youngest
daughter tried to trace the family tree many years ago and was told that the name Elm was English and that it
was probably changed from Helm to Elm at the time of immigration. If we can determine what the original name
was we can trace his/their immigration through the Ellis Island computer. I will contact Earl Elm and get as
much family information I can from him.

I'll await your thoughts and comments.

Barbara

P.S. We can e-mail directly to each other if you want.

Hi Barb, we have a hit on this end. My Husband's grandfather was William Elm, son of Peter and Caroline. Here's the info we have. Peter Elm born 10/1876 or 1877-birth place - Austria/ Germany ?died-10/1943-Duryea,Pa. Married Caorline(Lena)Greglor-born 12/1879-birth place-Austria/Germany ?- married 1898 ?-Mt Carmel,Pa.or Sacred Heart church,Duryea,Pa.-died 1932-Duryea,Pa.
William Elm-born 3/19/1906-birth place-Duryea or Nanticoke,Pa. died 3/7/1937-Philly,Pa.married 2/23/1935 to Ann Kelly-born 5/31/1912-birth place Duryea,Pa-still living. They had Donald William Elm born-1/31/1936-my father-in-law.Ann Elm also married William's brother Peter after William's death. Peter also died very young leaving Ann a 2 time widow. Ann is still alive but foggy on a lot of family history. she has said the elm's at one time were Von Elm's . Does any of this go with what you may have been told ? Thanks Cindy Braden-Elm

Peter and Carolyn Elm (my husband's grand-
parents) had six children. Peter, William,
Andrew (my father-in-law), Frank, Coroline
and Margaret. All are deceased. There are
children and grandchildren that we know. I
can get more information on the family from
a cousin Earl Elm (father Frank Elm).
