Christopher ELMS

I need help in identifying the wife of one of my kin.

Christopher Elms (Born abt 1742 in Franklin Co. PA) married Margaret Ann __?__ I have two surnames Meek and Finley. She was born abt 1759 in Franklin Co. PA – another has her being born in 1736 in Virginia. Not sure of either of them either. Their marriage was abt 1757 in Franklin Co. PA is what I have.

Below is what I know about both surnames.

MEEK – Different researchers have used this name because Christopher her husband went in bond for a Samuel Meek in 1782 in Washington CO. Virginia and Margaret and Christopher’s son, Thomas, named one of his son’s David Meek Elms. This makes sense to me – but I have found no evidence of this and I’m not sure who her parents are.

FINLEY – Another researcher uses this line and shows her birth in 1736 in Virginia and that her parents were (Rev.) Andrew Finley and Katherine Paul. Still no evidence of this name either.

One researcher said something about a family bible maybe that would clarify this.

DO YOU HAVE ANYTHING THAT WOULD HELP ME OUT? DO YOU KNOW SOMEONE WHO MIGHT BE ABLE TO HELP? Please let me know either way.

Thank you for you kind attention either way.

Craig Neal
Vancouver, WA
Email: jcneal1776@msn.com

Thank you for your assistance. I don't know how to find out if that is the right Thomas Elms. Thomas Elmes daughter, Mary, that married William Fishburne, was born ~1703 in South Carolina. I would be interested to know if you had any of the surnames that I mentioned before associated with you Elms. Other surnames were Green, Bailey, McKenzie, Ladson. Do you know of any Elmes that had 17th century Quaker connections?

Sorry it has takem me so long to reply. I personally don't have access to Quaker records in Ireland but if you try them as the Society of Friends at the refurbished National Archives in Dublin they might help. "My Elmes" come in England from Surrey and Northamptonshire with a branch in Linconshire although we haven't been able to confirm a link between them and the Thomas Elmes farmer in Co Cork in the late 1700s who was my husband's direct ancestor

Ltd)

I can find no record of them after they arrived. I don't know whether they stayed in South Africa, came back to England later on, died soon after, settled and had family...
William Gilbert Elms (b.1920 England)

Does anyone know anything about William Gilbert Elms, born 29 April 1920 in Ealing (Brentford District, County of Middlesex, England). His father was William Hugh Elms, and his grandfather was William Hugh Chamberlain Elms (Merchant Service Captain). William G. and his father may have left England (possibly fo South Africa but not sure) to start a new life in the 1920's after the tragic death of William G.'s mother when he was just a few months old. Her maiden name was Margaret (Madge) West. She would have been my g.g.aunt. We would be interested to know what happened to little William Gilbert Elms (Gilly as he was known to my family) If he is still alive now he would be 83 years old. Thankyou very much.

Hi Jim

I have been researching the Elms line on behalf of my father in law. The earliest I have at present is a George Elms born in 1801 in Somerset, possibly Whitcombe or very near there.

1841 census shows George is married to Martha Tucker and living in Bitton near Bristol. They have Marthas mother Anne Tucker living with them. George is shown as being an agency labourer at that time.

Any connections back into your line at all?

warm regards

Mark Woolley
In 1998 I posted a query on this board about Cornelia and Pinkey Elms who were adopted after their parents' deaths in 1883. Mecklenburg County, NC estate records of their mother identified the adoptive parents. Since then I have been able to find one.

I found Elizabeth "Pinkey" Elms Blake in the 1900 census living in Georgia with her adopted father, C.W. Eddins, and her husband, David O Blake and their three children, Charles E, Elizabeth E., and Katherine Blake.

Cornelia Elms is still a mystery after her adoption by Thomas L. Falwell of Randolph County, NC in 1884.

Hi, P Elms;
First, if you should you recieve this, please respond, as you are the only one I have seen on here that even has the slightest idea of whai I am talking about. However, you will know the answers to some of my questions.
First, my name is Merkel Walters (born at Merkel Texas, that`s why the name :) Mary Elisabeth Walters was the sister of my Grand father William Ernest Walters. Both were children of Anthony Wayne Walters and Sally Goss. Coryell County. Patrick Henry Gallagher was from Ireland. His brother died leaving him alone in the world. The Walters took him in and he appears on the 1860 Texas Census as living on Jenson Creek in Coryell County. Pat & Mary Walters were married about that time, and he joined the Texas Rangers about that time. Question # 1 Do you know what the name of the Cemetary is in Valley Mills/ Bosque County where they were buried? I know both Pat Gallagher and
Mary Elisabeth Walters Gallagher are b. at Gatesville next to each other. A bit of Family Trivia for you---Mary used an
S in place of a Z in Elisabeth (personal touch) toign her name. What have you heard about my Grandfather? Do you know where my Grandmother July Turner was buried? Did she have a middle name? How old was she when she died? On a creek bank while on a fishing trip, I heard. What Date? My father was born in 1888 in Whitesboro, Grayson County, and was 10 years old at the time of his Mother`s death. He remembered it well.
PLEASE REPLY!
Do you know where my Grandmother was buried? Did she have a middle name? How old was she when she died? On a creek bank while on a fishing trip, I heard. What Date? My father was born in 1888 in Whitesboro, Grayson County, and was 10 years old at the time of his Mother`s death. He remembered it well.
PLEASE REPLY!
