Objet : ELSON'S FROM LONDON

Hi,

I can't promise that we are talking about the same Elson family, but in my family tree there is Emily Elson (1859-1903), daughter of Richard Elson (1833-1905), son of James Elson (1791-?). They all lived in the county of Surrey, which is just near London.
Take a look at my family tree (on the Cheeseman side of the family).

I hope you find what you're looking for !

Hi

I have information on the Elson family of Bunbury. I am tracing my family who are Carr Family of Cheshire, including areas of Bunbury, Tattenhall, Burwardsley. Elizabeth Carr had an illegitimate child to a William Elson of Bunbury in 1833. The child was James Carr and was brought up by his Grandad William Carr. We have been Carrs eversince, however, it seems likely that we should have been Elsons!!

Happy to forward info if you would like.
Hi Barry,
I don't have any proof but I strongly believe this is Mary Ann Underwood. In 1860 My Oliver Parkinson Underwood is living with the Allison Family . Mary Ann Married William Allison after Davids death ? My Cinderilla Parkison Underwood married William Nave after my Lazarus Underwoods death about the same time as Davids and they are neighbors. For whatever reason her son Oliver is living with The Allisons, Two of Mary Ann and Davids sons are listed in the census as Allison but are in fact, Elsons. Lazarus and Cinderillas daughter Frances is ??? There is a Margaret in the home of Cinderilla and William Nave. Presumably William and Cinderillas child.
Have you found out anything about Davids death, when, where or how. I am still looking for Lazarus when he died or dissappeared between 1854 and 1860.
Thanks, Tonya

Hi Wendy

This is great news! As you can see I posted that notice sometime ago and I had totally forgotten about it. I Have posted a somewhat incomplete tree online that you can see I think. Do a search for John Henry Elson or Beatrice Sproat and in the names my tree should come up. If not please let me know and I will sent it to you. I have lots to tell you and lots of information on the family. Through the research, I have connected with relatives in England on the other side of the Elson family and that is Great Grandmother Fanny Elson whos surname is Blackham. My email address is dusty11@telus.net please contact me there. Thank you and CHEERS!!! Colin Miller

Sorry, I am not able to find David and Mary Ann after 1850 either. I did find sons George and James in 1860, working as farm laborers for Wm H. Underwood in Hurricane Twp, Carroll Co., MO (listed as Elston, ages 19 and 17). Also, son Prosser (Lewis) marries in 1885, and has a child in Saline Co (next county) in 1885, so it seems like the family stays in the area. You might try death records in Carroll Co between 1850 and 1860 for David and Mary Ann, because it seems that most of their children remain in the area.

Hi Sharon,
I am George Washington Elson's granddaughter. I have passed this same info along before. There is no George Jr or Sr. I copied the family info out of George and Callie Wicks Elson Family Bible so I konw the names of his parents and siblings are correct.

My Dad, Floyd Elson, told me that his daddy, George W. Elson, had told him his grandfather had been orphaned and shipped to America with a sibling when he was around 12 or 13. We just assumed it was his Elson grandfather but after researching I feel sure it must have been his mother's father, John Hood. It appears John and brother Graeme came to America from Scotland when he was about 13.

I made a trip to Marshall Missouri and have Janet and William's marriage license and found a passage regarding William and his brothers in The History of Saline County MO. Also found info that John Hood was a Methodist minister and established several churches in the area and I got a copy of his will.

I can account for all of William and Janet's 9 children except a daughter that I assume must have married and stayed in Arkansas when the remaining family moved on to TX. Sons Louis and Grant never married and died in TX. Daughter Dora married and died in TX.

I need help with William's father David born 1814 Va or Ky and mother Mary Ann b 1816 or 1823 IL. The last census I can find is 1850 with them listed in Carroll Co MO. I can't find what happened to them and I am not sure who their parents were. Any help you can give would really be appreciated.

Teresa Elson Swadek

Lewis Elson -- Ohio to Oklahoma Territory

Lewis Elson was enumerated in Luther, Oklahoma Co., Oklahoma Territory, on the 1900 census. Married, Head of Household, but living alone. Olive Adkison, single, was enumerated in the adjacent household as a Boarder. Lewis and Olive were married in Oklahoma County on April 11, 1901. The 1910 census shows that this was his second marriage, her first. They also appear in Luther on the 1920 and 1930 census records.

These records consistently give Lewis Elson's birthplace as Ohio, and his parents' birthplace as Maryland. His exact birthdate varies from census to census, but was probably sometime between 1850 and 1854. I have not been able to identify his first wife or find out what happened to her or any children they may have had. I have not been able to identify his parents or any sibings.

Is anyone missing a Lewis or Louis Elson from Ohio?

Charles was born in Ryton Warwickshire (near Coventry)

and then

Edith Elson in 1901 census born c 1887 in Ashton under Lyne, Lancashire daughter of Bardsley and Sarah M Elson, all the family born in Ashton under Lyne.
I am still trying to find the parents of John Elson who lived and died in Sandy Township, Stark Co., OH. The marriage is as follows: From the Probate Court of the State of Ohio, Stark County, is the following: "I hereby certify that on the twelfth day of September last I joined John Elson and Harriet Pool in the holy state of matrimony both of Sandy Township. Given under my hand and seal this 28th day of June 1828. Peter Mottice, Justice of the Peace" Their only son, William Kyle Elson was born 27 Nov. 1833 in Sandy Twp. According to his biograpy, his father, John Elson died with W. K. Elson was 6 months old. Harriet Pool's father was John Engle Pool, the first postmaster of Magnolia. Harriet married secondly in Wheeling, Ohio Co., WV, Robert Rose.

Dates for Samuel and Rebecca Elson

Matilda Ann Cresap married about 1830 Samuel Elson; they had one known child, Rebecca Ann. After his death (no date) she is "thought to have married a Mr. Kleinpeter."

I'm unable to find the Elsons in the 1850; I don't find a Kleinpeter family that includes either Matilda or Rebecca. I have no dates other than the 1830 marriage. I'd like to. (g)

The Cresap family began in Maryland, spread to VA/WV, PA, OH, LA, IN, IL, MS, TX.

Anyone recognize any of this?

Thanks!

Cheryl Singhal
The Cresap Genealogist
www.rootsweb.com/~cresap/

Thomas Cresap of Maryland, through his son Daniel's 2nd marriage to a Ruth vanSwearingen.

All help accepted with gratitude!

Cheryl

I am a decendant of John Elson of Carbonear, whose father was the John Elson who married a Jane Ash Forward. John Elson married Jane Penney of Carbonear. They moved to Labrador and later returned to Newfoundland, some went to the Botwood area, after the fishery failed. Some sons stayed in Labrador and all Elsons of Labrador are related.

She had another brother Freddie who died aged 21 in Egypt of TB fighting in war and a sister Alice. Does any of this ring any bells? Bye for now, Kim.

Re: Elsons of Indiana & Iowa

Cornelius Elson and Eliza Thomas had a daughter named MaryElizabeth Elson who in l865, according to our family bible, married Moses Hooper Orme in Lineville, Iowa, Wayne County. They had five children, two of whom lived. One was Minnie Orme Lowe, and the other was Cornelius Otis Orme, my husband's great grandfather. Moses died and Mary Elizabeth married Alva Smith and I have a photo of her taken in Longmont, Colorado with my husband's grandfather. I was given this genealogy by Namah Lowe, the daughter of Minnie Lowe besides having the family bible. I have the parents of Eliza Thomas listed as Joseph Thomas and Elizabeth Cope of the "Copes of Maryland" of whom I can find no record. I have their wedding date as 1822 and I have both of their birth dates also. Hope thishelps. I just tried this board. Judy Orme

ELSON, UNDERWOOD in Missouri

David Elson (b-1814 in VA or NC) married Mary Ann Underwood in
White Co., Illinois in 13 AUG 1838. Mary Ann is believed to be the child of Phillip Underwood and Armin Humphries with Phillip and Armin married in Henderson Co., KY 27 May 1811. I can track David and Mary Ann and Phillip and Armin from Ohio to Carroll Co., MO where both are found in the 1840 and 1850 census, living next door, or close to each other. I'm looking for proof that Mary Ann is the child of Phillip and Armin. Bible records, wills or probate records citing Mary Ann, or any other document that supports my conclusion.

Sarah Elson; will of 1680?

I have been updating my Clark/Clarke data, and in some of the information sent to me many years ago, there is a notation on Agnes Adams, wife of my Lt. John Clark. Agnes and John were both of the county of Londonderry, Ireland and crossed the pond ca 1718. Agnes was born about 1662? Anyway, the notation states that "Agnes was an aunt of Sarah ELSON, named by her in a will of 1680". Who is this this Sarah Elson? It may give me some information for finding parents of Agnes; as it stands now, I know nothing.

Re: George W. Elson Jr 1881 Ar-1956 Tx s/o GW, Sr & Janet Hood

I found your George W. Elson in the 1900 census, and believe that this confirms his parents and siblings. The family is found in 1900 in Escalapia, Benton, AR. In the household is William H. 59, Jeanette F. 51, Louis A. 26, George W. 19, H. S. Grant 14, and Dora E. 11. Parents and oldest son Louis were born in MO, remaining children b. AR. William Elson's parents were born KY and IL respectively, and Jeanette's parents were born Scotland and VA. The record also states that William and Jeanette were married 31 years, and had 9 children, 5 of which were still living, so one of them is not listed in this record.

In 1880, this family is found in White River Twp in Woodruff Co., AR. The family at this time consists of William H. 39, Jeanett 31, and children John Wm 10, Louis L. 6, and Mary E. 2.

In 1870, William H. Elson 29, and wife Janet F. 21, and son John W. 1, are found living with John Hood, 61, postmaster, from Scotland, and his wife Sarah 64, b. VA, and their daughter Sarah 32.

To me, this is pretty concise evidence that Janet (Jeanette)'s parents were John and Sarah Hood, and given John Hood was from Scotland, likely not full blooded native American!

If you find more about the parents of William H., I would be interested. Likely I can tie you in with the line from which I also descend with more info.
