Elves /Elvis

I am researching my maternal line . The 1790 S.C. census lists a John Elves . John would be my GGGGgrrandfather. All records from that point have the spelling as Elvis. Beyond John , I know little of this line .<br>Anyone care to share anything about the line or have a missing ancestor that found his way to colonial South Carolina?

Family History

Hello, hopefully someone will be able to help me in this search. I believe our original last name was Elves not Eleves. My father was William F Eleves (born 11-10-1924 in RI or MA). I believe during his service in the Army/Air force and "e" was added in our name. The error (if one was made)was not discovered do to the war. If anyone could help me I would appreciate it. I am new to locating distant relatives.
