obituary of John Elzey, 1990

Funeral Services were held Monday in Carson City (CC), Nevada for John F Elzey, a former Millbrae resident and a past president of the Carpenters Union Local 848 of San Bruno.

Mr Elzey died Oct 4 in CC Hospital after an illness. He was 86.

A Tennessee native, he had lived many years in Millbrae before retiring to CC in 1976. Her was a carpenter and an army veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Frances; two sons, Ronald J of Sacramento and John M of Ogden, Utah; a daughter, Arlene Byrd of CC; a brother, Paul of Ann Arbor, Michigan; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Burial was in Chapel of the Valley Cemetery, CC.

My cousin Tammy and I have been researching the Louisville, KY area ELZY families for about 15 years. We have thousands of names in our database, and are ALWAYS looking to correspond with ANYONE research this family name.

I have some information that we have researched on George Elzey and Verda Hockensmith, their children, some grandchildren, and even some great-grandchildren. I would like to exchange information on this family if any of his descendants are interested.

Does anyone know who George's partents were? I am going to be in the Louisville area in July research the ELZY/ELZEY family.

Hi I am a direct decendent of Sidney Elzey. He is my great Grandfather. I have done some research on our ancestory and have found that Sidney Elzey's father was named William H. Elzey and his wife's name was Ruth Good. She was a full blooded Cherokee.

Artie E. Bradshaw, 100, of Siloam Springs, Ark., died Jan. 9, 2005, at Quail Ridge Living Center in West Siloam Springs, Okla. She was born March 13, 1904, in Marble, Ark., to Albert R. Elzey and Martha Robinson Elzey.

She enjoyed gardening, cooking, reading and crocheting. She enjoyed singing and whistling gospel hymns.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Roy Elzey, Lee Elzey and Claude Elzey; and two sisters, Lida Fierro and Maxine Edmondson.

Survivors include a daughter, Helen Wilmoth and her husband Edward Wilmoth of Siloam Springs; two grandchildren, Keith Wilmoth and his wife Kate Wilmoth of Watts, Okla., and Janet Wilkerson and her husband Donald Wilkerson of Decatur, Ark.; five greatgrandchildren, Jamie Wilmoth, Jill Johnson, Kelly Wilmoth, Julie Burks and Jennifer Wilkerson; seven great-greatgrandchildren; three nephews; and seven nieces.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 11, at Wasson Funeral Home of Siloam Springs.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 12, at Falling Springs Cemetery near Decatur with the Rev. Kenneth "Buster" Payne.

Hi! Please what info do you have on the strawsers? where is the native connection? My line goes to a Henry Strawser ross. Co. Ohio born 1758 a ross history talks of him hunting with a Cheif Logan and a Captian Johnny both suppose to be shawnne, we can't find a last name or really any info on his wife a Margaret or Mary Do you have any info on this line?

I am looking for information on this couple and their descendants. I have been told that they were married in Hutchinson, Reno County, Kansas on 27 Oct. 1929. They had a daughter, Ramona Louise, born 26 Apr 1930 who died sometime in 1938. They also had a son, David Lee Elzey, born 13 Dec 1931. I have been unable to find this couple on the 1930 census at ancestry.com or genealogy.com. I would like to know if I have been given the wrong information, or maybe the wrong names or spellings. I would also like to know if they had any other children. Norvel William was born in Texas on 20 Mar 1911 and Ida Ruth Gnagy (Gnagey) was born in Kansas on 4 Oct. 1912 according to my sources. was spelled in this booklet from England, and not Ellzey or any other form.

Also who lived within these walls at this time, and listed in this booklet was William Shakspeare. And the Mayflower ship
departed this town in 1620 to Plymouth, Mass.

He was a wealthy and prominent citizen, being Town Steward (Treasurer) in 1619, and in 1616 able to lend the Town
100 Sterling, (about 500 Sterling today(1970)0.
In 1608 he complained that John Parker (also my ancestor), a fellow Burgess (Town Mayor), had many times "abused
him and reviled (cursed) him in words severall (this is the way it's spelled) time in callinge(this is the way it's spelled)him
knave", for which Parker was fined 20 pounds, 10 of which was returned, under the Gild rules. Elzey's house was a
timber one.

John S. Elzey who lived and died in MD prior to 1830.(Supposition) According to sources, he married a Mary Driscill who died in Clinton Co. OH .

I am descended through his son William Martin Elzey who was b in 1783 in Delaware and who married Elizabeth Nichols.

Does anyone know if the S in John's name stood for Samuel?

There has also been handed down in my line that we are of Cherokee descent.

Vivian Ilene Elzey, 89, died at 2:58 p.m. Sunday (May 26, 2002) at The Heritage of Huntington.
Mrs. Elzey retired from Triad Utrad. She had also been employed at Caswell-Runyan and had worked as a cook at the Bulldog and Spot restraurants.
She was born Aug. 15, 1912 in Wells County to Furl and Amy (Davis) Davison. She married Alvin D. W. Elzey in Wells County on Oct. 10, 1931. Her husband died Dec. 29, 1987.
Survivors include four daughters, Wilma Coffelt, Mrs. Richard (Sarah) Keplinger, Mrs. David (Patricia) Flora, and Mrs. Lee (Linda) Hughes, all of Huntington; a son, Furl "Doc" Elzey, Huntington; a sister, Viola Hubley, Huntington; a brother, Verlin Davison, Bluffton; 21 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Thursday at McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, where funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday. Pastor Ken Rieman will officiate.
Burial will be at the Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
Preferred memorials are to Parkview Hospice, in care of McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson St., Huntington, IN 46750.

Yes, still in Sydney. Have lived here for the best part of 30 years, so I'll probably stay here til I retire. I am planning a trip to the States in about Sept. and hope to meet a few newly-found relatives then.
