Hi, I'm Chris Emberson. I live in Orillia. Ontario Canada. My grandfather, Lionel Bergeron Emberson was an illegitimate child of Lilly Emberson from London, England. Lionel had 8 children. My father John Earnest was the oldest boy and third oldest in his family. He had 6 children of which I am the second son and the third child. I have two daughters, Lauren Louise (28) and Madelaine Leigh (16). One by my first wife, Marta Anne-Louise Dutrizac and the other by my second wife, Patricia Anne Young. Both my daughters carry my surname.
I'm an Emberson from Portsmouth. My grandfather James Emberson was from London 1912(ish) - died 2009. His father i think was called James Emberson also. From what my Nan has told me - Doris Emberson - He went missing to Australia and was last heard from Kangaroo Island. He was in the Australian Army I think. Any info would be greatfully received

ajemberson@googlemail.com

Hi Lindsey,
I come from a line of EMBERSONS originating from Essex, I have traced my line back to a WILLIAM & REBECCA EMBERSON who were both born in the 1750s. I will let you have more details on request.

David Emberson.

Sally,

I don't know if this will help, but I am also researching the Emberson family (in the MD, NJ, VA, OH, IN, IL, IA, and MN areas). I came across the following:

[The National Society of the Daughters of the American
Revolution Volume 59
page 303

[p.303] Mrs. Mary Emberson Mckinnon.
DAR ID Number: 58889
Born in Union County, Ohio.
Descendant of William Emberson.
Daughter of James Henry Emberson and Charlotte Wyant, his
wife.
Granddaughter of William Emberson and Mary Adams Beeman,
his 3rd wife.
Gr-granddaughter of Abel Emberson and Mary Emberson, his
wife.
Gr-gr-granddaughter of William Emberson and Orpha
Emberson, his wife.
William Emberson (1751-1818) was placed on the pension
roll, 1818, of Salem County, N. J., for service as
private, 1777, in Captain Courtney's company, Col. Thomas
Proctor's Pennsylvania regiment. He was born in Ireland;
died in Salem, N. J.]

This indicates that William Emberson (1751-1818) also had another son named Abel.

My 4th Great Grandfather's name was Abel Emberson. He was born in Virginia around 1785. I have not been able to find his parents. However, my dad told me when I was a kid that we have some Irish blood in us, and so far, this is about as close as I can come to finding where it came from. From something I found a few years ago, I suspect that Abel's father was also named Abel (born around 1750). Do you have any idea if this could be a brother to William (1751-1818)?

I would be most appreciative of any information you could provide regarding the Emberson family, and I would be most happy to share what I have found regarding them with you.

My name is Jim Emerson,
and my e-mail is jemerson948@hotmail.com

Thank you for any assistance you can provide.

Hello Mark,
Yes, I'm kinfolk and knew Sonny and his father. I am the oldest son of Ilah Mae (Emberson) WALES. Daughter of Josiah (Joe) Emberson and Anne (Daves). I was born at Joe's farm 6 1/2 miles SE of Checotah, OK. I have a photo of him in a wheelchair and me standing at his side (circa 1945-46). It was taken after he and Anne moved into Checotah. I often stayed with them and My gg Grandmother, Cordelia Daves. She lived in a very small house adjacent to Josiah and Anne. I grew up in Southern California as did Sonny, Jesse and their sisters. All this is in my version of a family tree which I'm willing to share, along with a photo of Roy Emberson taken at the Emberson family reunion in Lamont, CA summer of 1953. My email is mikemiddleton@verizon.net.
Hi Mike

The dates and location you have certainly match up. Are you a cousin or family friend? Do you know my father Ray(Sonny)? My Grandfather passed away a few months after I was born so I never knew him. My parents were planning a trip to Oklahoma in the summer of 1967 so he could see my older Brother and I. But sadly he passed away in February of that year. My Grandmother Verna passed in 1996 and there are only 2 surviving kids My father and my Aunt Faye. Goldie passed away in 1984, Jesse passed away in 1997. And I believe Eurilla passed in 1999 or 2000.

I Hope this helps you in some manner. I would like to hear more from you. There are only a handful of people remaining that actually knew him.

I visited your grandfather in the hospital at Calente, CA in the winter of 1959, and again prior to going overseas in 1964-65, after he had returned to Checotah, OK. I often visited your family in East Bakersfied. I have been loading a computer data base for the last couple of years and building a collection of family information, that goes back to James "Regulator" Emberson of SC. If you want to continue with this dialogue, please respond.

My brother and I left the Tongan Islands when we were very young. We've had little contact with our father and I hope that changes. My fiance' and I are taking our honeymoon trip to the Polynesian Islands this summer. We hope to stop by Tonga and visit with Earl and Ana.
Mark,

I am the grand daughter of Bessie Emberson. She was the oldest child of Josiah and Dora. I knew your grandfather Roy. He was uncle Roy to me and I loved him dearly. He used to go fishing with us when I was a kid. He told the most wonderful stories. I talked to Hershal yesterday and he told me that one of uncle Roys grandsons had contacted him.
My dad is David VanMeter Jr. He is the oldest son of Bessie.
I didn't much about uncle Roys family. He was an older man when he came back to Oklahoma and that is when I knew him.
I have some information on the Emberson family. It is hard to obtain since there are only a few of them left. Great Grandpa Josiah had several children with two wives. Send me your e-mail address and we will try and exchange information. I live here in Oklahoma. I am 58 years old and married for 42 years. Me and my husband have 5 children. It is great to "meet" a new cousin.

Sincerely,

Linda Page weewee495@aol.com

Carlette,

For some reason I didn't get a notice that you had responded to my post.

Well Hello Cousin! - I am actually a descendant of both Lazarus and Eli Webb the brothers of Elizabeth (Webb) Emberson.

I have been trying to prove the family line of the Webbs in Northumberland Co. VA. and to "prove" the marriage of Lazarus Webb, Sr. and Leannah WEBB.

Yes, the parents of our Webb ancestors were Lazarus and his wife Leannah, but we only have circumstancial evidence that Leannah was the daughter of John Webb and Leannah Basye.

Family stories or traditions are welcome.

Hope this gets through to you, and I hear from you soon

Dian
