Hi Eva,
Yes Asa's mother Eliza Jane Rice (1893 - 1965) first married Charles Embree and then married Earl Lonzo Benton. She had one child with Earl (my grandpa Joe). Eliza's parents were Mathias Henry Rice and Sarah Jane Wood. Mathias was married to an Elizabeth prior to marrying Sarah. Mathias & Sarah lived in Kentucky before moving to Holyoke, MN (not sure when). I haven't looked into siblings of Eliza's or beyond Mathias and Sarah yet. I will be verifying facts with my grandpa. He has researched a lot of his family history and we go up to Holyoke once in awhile. I have one pic of Eliza with all her kids (when they were grown)

My great grandmother was Elizabeth Agnes Embree. Her brother, Charles, was Asa's father. I didn't even know Asa's mother had another husband. I would appreciate any information you have on Asa's mother. Was her name Elizabeth or Eliza Rice? Who were her parents?

You can email me at Eva.Chloe@yahoo.com

Thanks,
Eva

Can you link my Embrees? My aunt started it because my grandmother said that she was an orphan and all the kids were split up and taken in by family. I know there was a courthouse that burned in Illinois that had a lot of the records in it. My grandmother's name was Ethel Harms, her maiden name was Ethel Francis Embree. I know my aunt was DAr and had traced it back to Thomas Burris. I also know that a Mary(Polly) Flynn married the EMbree. I think it was Jacob. Not sure. I don't have the records and my aunt died. Her name was Helen Dorothy Kramer. nee Harms. Can you trace my line with your info?

Helen Dorthy nee Harms Kramer I dont have any of her things, but I remember she was DAR with Thomas Burris as a decendant. Her mother was Ethel Embree. The family was split up and the kids were all adopted by relatives, I remeber a Mary (Polly) Flynn married the Embree. Maybe you can help me piece it together.

Re: FRANCES BURRIS EMBREE married two times

Hello Sharon,

I will answer you here and will also send you an email as I have too much to write here and can just send you a file...

I show that Frances Burris Embree was the daughter of Elisha Embree and Nancy Wilhoit. Frances had 10 brothers and sisters. At least 4 of these siblings went to Texas and Frances went to Oregon.

Much of my information comes from History of the Oregon Trail, many Howell/Midkiff descendants, and from the 1893 Illustrated History of The State of Oregon.

After the death of John Howell's first wife, Temperance Midkiff, John married Frances, who was the widow of William Mc Daniel. Frances and William had at least eight children, however I have information on only 4 of them.

John and Frances did not to my knowledge have any children. At least two of France's daughters married two of John's sons.

John Howell and Temperance Midkiff are my double relatives as John was the brother of my great great great grandmother, Susannah Howell. Temperance Midkiff was the sister of my great great great grandfather, Isaac Midkiff.

Betty

Re: FRANCES BURRIS EMBREE married two times

I show Elisha Embree Sr born 29 Jan 1772 VA died 11 Apr 1839 Cumberland Co Ky was the father of the Frances Burris Embree that was born 22 Mar 1806 in Cumberland Co Ky and died 16 Aug 1873 Polk Co Oregon at the home of her son, Joshua McDaniel.

Frances Burris Embree McDaniel Howell was the daughter of Nancy Wilhoit, born 13 Apr 1783 Culpepper and died 15 July 1851 Cumberland Co Ky

Frances Burris Embree married first to William Mc Daniel in Missouri They were the parents of 5 children. William had been married before he married Frances and had 6 to 8 children by this wife, however in my research of over 15 years on this family I have found only 4 of them. William was said to have gone to Oregon with Frances, however one of the Histories I read says William died in Missouri from an accident in 1838 and Frances traveled to Oregon on one of the Oregon Wagon Trains in 1844 with General Cornelius Gilham as her Captain.

A researcher of Frances and William writes that a will was filed 28 Aug 1839 in MO. I never got a copy of the will ---

Frances Burris Embree McDaniel married John Howell 17 Feb 1850 after John's first wife, Temperance Midkiff Howell died 22 March 1848.

Two of Frances "McDaniel" daughters married John Howell's sons.

John and Temperance are buried in Howell Prairie Cemetery in Marion Co OR John and Temperance received a land grant for coming to Oregon however Temperance died before the grant was completed. John and Frances received the certificate.

Some of this information is from the History of Oregon and a history of Missouri, the Howell Prairie Cemetery, History of the Oregon Trails and from many direct descendants of John and Temperance.

Betty

Hi Laura: Thanks for replying to my posting. I am not sure what you meant when you said, "There was a Goodnight in Bickleton". Is Goodnight a surname? My mother passed away February 20, 2005. What census year is the information that you listed for me? My paternal grandfather (Thomas Benton Embree) was also born in Bickleton, Klickitat, WA
Connie Kadyk

Hi Sharon: Thanks for your note on the Embree Message Board. It was very interesting. I do not have any family information in my family tree on your Joseph and Eliza and their descendents. Is your family information accessible on a website that I could review more closely? All my family information is on a website that my sister and I created. This information is a collaborative effort of my mother and her first cousin Bernard Embree plus considerable additional research done by my sister Elaine (Unsworth) Stakiw and me. The information includes all notations from family historical records and bibles. My websiite is:

http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/k/a/d/Connie-Kady...

If you wish to email me 'off-board', my email address is:
kadyk_a@telusplanet.net

Regards, Connie (Unsworth) Kadyk
Rocky Mountain House, Alberta CANADA

Children of Thomas Bangs EMBREE

Volume 3 of Embree Footprints identifies 13 children for Thomas Bangs Embree and Ann Unknown. I have run across information that there might be at least 1 more child.

Eliza Ann (Embree) Mosher born Apr 1, 1848 in Nova Scotia and married Hiram Mosher. I found their headstone in the Prospect cemetery in Toronto this week and I have been trying to connect Eliza Ann to the Embree family. Eliza Ann died Jun 21, 1909 in Toronto and her parent's names are not identified on her death record. They were asked for but not known or given by the informant. One Embree researcher has identified her as a daughter of Thomas Bangs Embree.

Martha Ann (Davis) (Embree) Mosher born abt 1829 in Cape Breton married Hiram's brother William. Martha Ann died in Toronto Dec 2, 1907 and her parent's names were not asked for on her death record. From Mosher researchers it looks like she might have been a Davis, married an Embree and then the Mosher. Could she be a daughter or married a child of Thomas Bangs Embree?

The William and Hiram Mosher families are in the Port Hope, ON area in the 1881 census and then the ladies died in Toronto in the early 1900s. With William and Martha Ann Mosher in the 1881 census is a William Emery soldier born Nova Scotia. Could he be a son from the first marriage?

There are two other Mosher/Embree marriages: a grandson of Thomas Bangs Embree and a great grandson Edwin Coleman Embree both married Moshers, so there is history between these two families.

Connie,
I was, some time ago, corresponding with Bernard Embree and, if I am correct, he mentioned your mother had an Embree family bible. I am sorry to find she has passed away, but wondered if you inherited that bible, with family records in it?
I have not corresponded with many people for several years and have lost track of a lot of them. Glad to find this thread with so much of our family info in it. I descend from Joseph through Thomas Burris, his son Joseph m. ELiza Harter, their daughter Ann Eliza Miller Embree m. William E. Walden and their son, Theodore John Walden.
I do have an extensive Embree file if anyone is interested. Feel free to ask, and if I have anything I will be glad to share.
Sharon

My great grandfather was John Emry/Embree b. Ky. 1861, no trace of him until 1880 census, Jackson County, Ky. when married to Lilley D. Rose, b. abt. 1859. I believe he came from the John Embree (Lincoln County) line I will post below, which was when Ky. was formed into 3 counties, later changed including Jackson and Madison Counties, where my Embree's lived. I know many people have this line figured out, would anyone have a child, John, b. 1861? If anyone has a clue for me, please help, would be sincerely appreciated!! Barbara

John Embree b. 1740 d. 1818 in Stanford, Lincoln County, Kentucky, m.
