I am the grandaughter of Ethel Francis Embree. Her parents, William Embree and Lorenda Williams had other children. They were Mary Jane Berger, Sadie Edith Keplinger, Thomas J. Embree and Viola Josephine Embree. Do you know what family Mary Jane grew up with? We are trying to figure out who the siblings lived with after William and Lorenda died. We don't know who Ethel lived with or where her siblings went. We think she may have lived with a Philip Embree because in the 1900's census it lists Francis Embree as his neice. We believe that her given name was Francis, but she went by Ethel. Any info you have would be helpful.

Mary Jane Embree was my grandmother, Ethel Francis Harms (Embree)'s sister. I would love to compare notes. We know that William and Lorenda (their parents) died and that my grandmother was orphaned at a very young age and we think lived with relatives, but we don't know who and would love to find out.

Photo - Embree Bros / Nova Scotia

I have a photo (10.5 by 13.5) from the collection of Wilma (Embree) Martin of her father and his two brothers. The people in the photo are Herbert Embree (1883-1974). Ira Embree (1888-1980) and Walter Embree (1896-1972). The photo was bought in a sale in Orangeville, Ontario.

I am looking for a descendant of one of these three people, who would like the photo. I will end up donating this photo to the Cumberland County museum later in the year if I don't find a descendant who would like the photo.

Thanks
Roger

Andrew Embree - Cumberland Co., NS to Esquesing Twp., ON

For many years I have known the names of Andrew's parents but I have hit many brick walls in trying to find more details about his life in Ontario.

I believe he was married twice: Margaret Moore - marriage bond date June 30, 1837 from Upper Canada Marriage Bonds (1803-1865). Andrew was of Esquesing Township and Margaret was of Trafalgar Township;

I have no details on the second marriage yet, but in the Ontario 1871 census there is a Hannah Emery (born NS) with Phillip and Henery Emery living in Esquesing. Hannah indicated she was a Widow. Then in the 1881 Ontario census, Hannah is living with Joseph Embree in West Garafraxa (stepmother?). Hannah ends up dying in Hamilton. Joseph is my ancestor.

I cannot find any additional information on Henery Emery, but Phillip Emery married Mary Ann Laycock in 1872 in Wellington County (parents were Andrew and Hannah Emery). Phillip drowns in 1884 in Guelph (suicide?). His wife remarries and ends up in Sarnia and then back to Guelph. There were two children of which one died at birth.

Andrew's parent's (Embree & Fillmore) families are well documented and I have compiled a good family history starting with his son Joseph. There is very little information about Andrew in Ontario.

Thanks
Roger

I know that the Embree's and the Hembree's are related, but my question is where does the confusion end? When did people start using the name Emory and when did they start using the name of Hembree? I have alot of Hembree's, Embry's, Embrie's, and then I have even seen the name of Amory, but to be honest it's a little confusing? Can someone please tell me when the name of Emory was used and when did they start using the name of Hembree?

Thanks In Advance,
K. Chris Vickery

Re: Dr Andrew Jackson Embree died Bell Co, TX

The source info I have regarding A.J. Embree contradicts this gravestone. Kansas Census 1880 has A.J. @65 years. Kansas Census 1885 has A.J. @69 years. These census documents also have Mary E. (his wife) at the appropriate ages as well as his son Caleb J. and others....

My great, great grandfather is 4 year old Clarence (Lacey Embree) who is in the household of A.J. and Caleb in the 1885 Kansas census, so I am really stuck on this one.

Strange thing is that this gravestone accurately coincides with all accounts that he was born around 1815.

Any help would be immensely appreciated.

I might suggest you put it online. In that way we all have access to it and there's no question of any profit being made from others work. I'll be willing to contribute what I can if you're putting it online and will work with you on that part too. It's going to be a big job and I admire you for doing it.
I would put all of the notes that the person sent me along with a picture if possible of that person, but only those that are already deceased. I would get written permission from all of the living people to have their information in book form or I would just put where they where born or just their month and day and not their birth year. I wouldn't want to get in trouble with anyone

I am looking for anyone that happens to have any information about these families and are related and would like to share their information. If you happen to have references, and sources and also pictures (would be great). I am starting the website on Tribalpages, and that would be a great source for all of those that are trying to research our family lines and for those that will be doing it in the future...

Please email me your information to the following email address: family_historian(at)live.com and please put in the subject "Hembree"

Thanks In Advance,
K.

If you're still out there...Martillas Embree was my 4-g's grandfather. W. Dillard Embree was my 3-greats. Martillas and Dillard both died of cholera within 4 days of each other in June of 1850 (somewhere in Nebraska--they had joined a wagon train going west, leaving their wives behind). Dillard's daughter, Anne (or Anna-at least later in her life, she called herself Anna) Elizabeth, was my gggrandmother (married Lafayette Thouvenell in Bates County, MO, in August of 1869). I just "discovered" the Embree family, and Bush Settlement, a few years back and am always looking for more information. If you're still interested, do send me a message

I don't remember where I saw it but I know I recently saw Woosleys listed in the household of one of the McDaniels. I've looked but I can't find where that was.
I am a descendant of Stephen Emery (Emrey/Embree) b. abt 1725 d. 1796 through his daughter Rachel (Rachael) Emery Goff. I came across a posting that there is a descendant of his that has established a DNA link to Robert Embree CT 1644. See the following DNA result website http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/emery/results.

I’ve looked at this family and I can’t find the connection. Could someone please tell me where in Robert Embree line that we are related? I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you! Deb
Re: Asa Mathias EMBREE, 1926 - 2006, obit

Hi Eva,
Yes Asa's mother Eliza Jane Rice (1893 - 1965) first married Charles Embree and then married Earl Lonzo Benton. She had one child with Earl (my grandpa Joe). Eliza's parents were Mathias Henry Rice and Sarah Jane Wood. Mathias was married to an Elizabeth prior to marrying Sarah. Mathias & Sarah lived in Kentucky before moving to Holyoke, MN (not sure when). I haven't looked into siblings of Eliza's or beyond Mathias and Sarah yet. I will be verifying facts with my grandpa. He has researched a lot of his family history and we go up to Holyoke once in awhile. I have one pic of Eliza with all her kids (when they were grown)

My great grandmother was Elizabeth Agnes Embree. Her brother, Charles, was Asa's father. I didn't even know Asa's mother had another husband. I would appreciate any information you have on Asa's mother. Was her name Elizabeth or Eliza Rice? Who were her parents?

You can email me at Eva.Chloe@yahoo.com

Thanks,
Eva
