I erred when putting in the birth year for the Sophia (Emerson) Hinds I am looking for. She was born in approximately 1809. Maybe this will help connect with others researching the Emerson/Hinds families.

Nichols b. abt 1925 in TX
and, the half brother of Faye Margaret Emerson.

I am trying to locate Fay Margaret Emerson's brother, Herff (various spellings???) C. Emerson. Do you happen to know what his correct given name was or any other facts about him? All I know was that Herff was b. abt 1918 in LA. His parents were Lawrence Leon Emerson & Emma Carroll Smythe. He was in the 1920 census living with his grandparents in Beaumont, Jefferson Co., TX.

Any help will be appreciated.

Carol M Ohlweiler

I'm not sure if there is a connection or not. I don't know a lot about the Shoemakes other than my gg-grandmother was a Shoemaker and something happened to her between 1894 and 1900. Her 2 children (my great grandmother was one) were then raised by by different family members. My great grandmother had an aunt Susan Shoemake who married an Emerson. I will definitely check on the different spelling. As far as I can find my Shoemakes came from Smith County, TN.

I notced your post while researching inforamtion on my grandmother, Harriet Orne Emerson of Highland Park IL. She moved from the Boston area and was a distant relative of RWEmerson. The Schumachers moved from the Lower Palatine now part of Germany, where Trier is located, to Little Falls NY in the 1700s and emigrated to Jackson MI and CHicago. There was a change of name along the way to Shoemaker and then back to the orignal German as Chicago was at the time te lt 1800s the largest German city in the world. I doubt that we are related but was surprised by smilarity of namss. Do you see a conection?

Regards

Bowen Emerson Schumacher

I descend from Ephraim and Anne Peck Emerson. They had a daughter Mary, b. about 1796., in NY. Mary married Gideon Matteson/Mattison

Mary was first identified with Gideon in Petersburg NY. She is said to have had 13 children with the third or fourth being Sarah (Sallie) born in 1818 in Petersburg.

Gideon and Mary moved to Allegany Co., NY then to Almond/Alfred, Allegany Co. NY between 1820 and 1830 which parallels the movement of Ephraim and Ann Emerson.

Regards,
Jean Emerson
Sandi, I would very much like to be on your list to get a copy of your family book when you are able to make it available. "My" Emersons lived across the river from "yours" at Francis and Roff in the early years in Oklahoma, and I corresponded with Dr. K.C. for a time when he was researching (many years go, of course). My e-mail is cawell@aol.com.
Thanks.
Charlotte Emerson Wellman

Susan Shoemake Emerson

I have information that Susan V. Emerson of Wolfe City, born 9-7-1874 and died 5-8-1950, was my great-grandmother's aunt.

My GG was Letha Benton. She had a brother named Charlie Benton. Their parents were Frank (Wren) and Martha Benton. They were both raised for a little while by their grandparents, Franklin and Letha Shoemake.

I have a copy of Charlie's death certificate that list George Shoemake in the informant's signature box. George Shoemake is is also list on Susan Emerson's death certificate.

I believe her siblings were:
John, George, Lydia, Elizabeth, William, Eugene, and Martha (my ancestor).

We only recently discovered that my great-grandmother had a brother so I would appreciate any help and/or information that I can get.

Thank you for your time!!

Emerson in Texas

I am trying to help my friend find his father. Any help would be appreciated. This is the information that we have found. According to his birth record his father was Raymond Floyd Emerson born in Wetherford, Tx. Raymond's year of birth is about 1905. When I search Ancestry the only hits I get are on the 1910 & 1920 census. But the infomation on the census does not jive with what we know. The census shows the family in Collin county, Tx. Wetherford is not in that county. My friend's mother also mentioned that Raymond's mother's name was Frances Leverett (could be Levitt?). I can not make a hit on her either. So any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance.
There are no more extra copies of the book, either in our family or out, I had been working on copying it for our relatives but have not had lots of time to do it. So, instead I have put it on my ancestry.com pages. It is "Our Father's Family Continued" and if you are related to me and need access to it, please let me know.

Sandi Emerson Casey
