Emery Family of Harlan KY

My grandmother was Tommie Jean Emery, the daughter of Martha Fisher. Grandma had two sisters, Linda Emery-Johnson and Betty Emery-Ayers, and a brother, Eli Emery. I don't know her father's name other than his first name started with an M and he was a coal miner who died in a mining accident in TN.

Our family is mostly situated in Harlan, Pineville, and Four Mile, KY.

Grandma told me stories, but I can't be sure of anything. If anyone could help it would be deeply appreciated.

I can't answer your question on when George Emery and Diantha McIntire were married. I'm not sure anyone can unless they have a readable copy of their marriage record. I have 3 marriage dates for them.
1)From Diantha's obituary they were married 9 Feb 1852
2)From George's obituary they were married 23 Feb 1853
3 From Winneshiek County marriages they were married 9 Feb 1854 http://iagenweb.org/winneshiek/
I will check the next time I go to Decorah to see if I can come up with a marriage record for them but that could be quite sometime.
If we come up with the correct marriage date for them that might clear up who Ambrose's mother was.

Thank you for this important info. This answered a question for me. George Reid Emery bn 1791 and Candace Willey's son George R. Emery bn 1822 married Adora L. Henderson abt 1848 and they had 2 children: Caroline and Chauncey. In the 1870 census, Chauncey is living with Seth (I believe an Uncle and 1/2 brother of his Dad), while Caroline is living with George R. Emery bn 1822 (her Dad)and his 2nd wife, Diantha McIntyre. I was wondering why Chauncey was not with his Dad and step-mother? Also am looking for the wedding date of George R. Emery bn 1822 and Diantha McIntyre. Some has 1854 and some 1852. There is another son, Ambrose Emery bn 1854 - Is he Adora's son or Diantha's son? Pauli from Arkansas

I note in your message - Candace Willey and George R. Emery. They had a son George Reid Emery bn 1822 married Adora L. Henderson, then married Diantha McIntyre. George and Adora had a daughter and son (Caroline and Chauncey). In the 1860 census, George and Diantha are listed with their children and Caroline. However, Chauncey is not listed. I find him in the 1870 census living with Seth Emery - who is listed in another census as the son of George R. Emery bn 1791 and Polly. Was George (bn 1791) married to someone named Polly before he married Candace Willey. I am also wondering why Chauncey was not living with them. Thanks, Pauli

Thank you for all your hard work. I did RAOGK for many years up until 3 1/2 years ago when I started taking care of my grandson. It's a bit difficult spending hours in the library or cemetery with an infant, toddler and now a "big boy". I still have the notebook I used, all alphabetized, and will occasionally find a story in the paper about a name I remember. And I still get requests from people I helped years ago asking for more info. Loved doing it, just don't have the time. And it surely proves that what goes arounds, comes around. I have had several people in Ireland do research for me. Have a wonderful summer!

AnneMarie

I have an Alice Emery in my line that all I know about is where she is buried, thanks to an hand-carved inscription on a native stone that was placed as a grave marker in Soddy-Daisy, Tennessee. Do you have any information at all if Alice specifically or other parts of this group made it to eastern Tennessee?

The Emery's or the Stevenson's?

There are still several Emery's in the North Adams (Blackinton) and Williamstown area.

My father and one of his brothers moved to the Springfield area. His brother Richard moved to Eastern Mass and worked at International paper.

I am looking for information on Herbert Martin Emery. I am unsure of his parents, I do know that he was cousins to Jennie Lois Lynn Sterling Gessler and Ethel Lynn Sterling Brumage. Jennie and Ethel/Ethyl both dropped there last name Sterling (their mother divorced) and took there mothers maiden name Lynn before they were both married.
Herbert was born around 1897-1899. I do have information that he was a professor at the University of Rhode Island at one time.
thanks in advance.

Jacob Emery b. 1759 in NJ - Parents and Revolutionary War

I am trying to find some documentation on Jacob Emery's Revolutionary War service. I have that he fought from 1778 - 1781 in Capt. Alexander Foresman's Company under Col. Jacob Stouds's PA regiment, but I have no documentation to back it up.

Also, I have seen 2 fathers for him. James and George. James died in 1755, so he can't be the real father. George's death is also listed as 1755, so it can't be him either.

There must be someone out there with some information for me! Ultimately, I am trying to link to John Emery 1598 who came to Newbury MA on the ship James in 1635. I think I come down through John's son Johnathan, but Jacob's father is preventing me from doing this.

All info is greatly appreciated. My email is teri36@aol.com

Teri Emery Armiger

William Emery/Elizabeth Millward

In 1769, Elizabeth Millward (or Milward) married William Emery (or Emry) in St Peter's Church, Albany, NY. In the early 1770s, they lived in neighboring Schenectady, where several of their children were baptised in St. George's Church. In 1786 they moved to Glengarry County, Ontario, ostensibly as loyalists. Does anyone have anything on the antecedents or life careers of the couple?
