I am the grandson of Gladys Leontine Jackson Scott 1895-1981 and I have in my possesion a small book listing relatives that are linked to her. I BELIEVE your Harriett A. Jackson Emley is my grandmothers aunt. My gandmother in her hand wriitting list Byron Sylvester Emely born 11/19/1876 died 12/4/1944 and Harriett (Hattie) Emely born 11/11/1882 and died 12/6/1944.
On another page she has Harold Jackson Emley and Charlotte, Omaha (Irionicly my father was Harlod Jackson Scott 1921-1993)
From census records of the 1880 Andrew County, MO I BELIEVE Harriett's middle name may have been Annetta, as her mother was Harriet Newell Ferris Jackson.
My grandmother's parents were William Ferris Jackson and Ella Day French Jackson
Both the Jackson's and the French surnames begin there association in either Nodaway or Andrew County, MO referred to as Bolckow, MO

Hello! I have come upon a list of my husband's ancestors that trace all the way back about 25 generations. Unfortunately, none of this information is documented or even verified. But most of it is "sourced." So we have a place to start. I was hoping to put our collective brains together & try to prove this list correct.

We lost the Emley surname with Sarah Emley (1759-1832) who married a Holcombe from Hunterdon County, NJ. But I have her descendants are well documented.

Please contact me directly at atryan0704@aol.com.
Best,
Ana

Oh, Chloe... we have tons of Massarello info... but not nearly enough!

I believe the bishop/cardinal at the Council of Trent was Angelo Massarello. I'm unsure if he's related.

Also, I've checked 3 national phone books in Italy and it shows no listings for Massarello's in Sicily. Only Massarelli's (which is the plural of Massarello). BUT.....Grandma (Venus) corresponded with many Massarello's in Sicily in the 60's. I'm in the process of getting the letters from Aunt Rosemary.

Email me at annamiller@alltel.net. My sisters and I, Amy and Alyssa, have a huge tree going. Have you done any research into the Culey's? We were all Quakers at one time.

Amy and Alyssa have a Army disability certificate and pic of Benjamin Culey who served in the Civil War. It's actually very amusing since he's in his 60's and claiming a disability for a bad back, heart disease and a fractured finger from carring a bundle of sticks and falling with it while serving in Tennessee. It also gives a detailed physical description.

Oh, I'm SO EXCITED. I'm so glad I found your message on this board!!!!

EMAIL ME!

Hi!! I've tried doing research on the Massarello side and have been unsuccessful. Even a google search of the name turns up nothing that is helpful. I did find that there was a Massarello, I think a bishop, present at the Council of Trent in the 1500s, but I can't find out any more about him. Do you know if there are any Massarellos left in Sicily?

~Chloe

I am looking for EMLEY'S of Hunterdon Co., NJ who changed their name to EMERY ... there may also be the name EMBLEY, too. This story of name changing was passed down to us kids by our mother, Margaret Shepherd EMERY, whose father was Alonzo Vactor EMERY b. 1867 who married Sarah SHEPHERD and grand father who was William EMERY b. 1844 married to Martha QUICK. Thanks for any help you may be able to give.

Hi Mary, I don't have anything on a Mary Emley / Emery or Thomas Craven from Hunterdon Co. ... Do you have dates of birth or marriage? How about parentage or names of children? Do you have it online? I have found info on my Dad's side of the family online ... it was SO exciting to connect with them! Only a little bit on my Mom's side(Emery), but plenty on HER mom's side (Quick).

I wish I could help you with Mary ... I am guessing that the early 1800's is when my side of the Emley family changed their name to Emery. We don't know why. My mother always said that the name was changed from Emley to Embley to Emery. They had always lived in NJ. Her grandfather was William Emery married to Martha Quick of the Theunis Quick family from the Netherlands. I would love to find a connection and will keep my eyes on the lookout for your Mary.

Thanks to all of you who have offered suggestions :-) I have found William Emery/Emely/Emley as William Embley in the 1880 Federal Census ... with his wife Harriet and several children. Other children were farmed out as "servants" but were actually in the homes of family members.

I have not found William's parents .. he spelled his name 4 different ways during his adult life, so it is anybody's guess. I am still open to suggestions .. Thanks again ... new email is ppitcher@nycap.rr.com

Thomas moved on to Ohio and I was wondering what happened to Mary Emley. Thomas is listed in the 1870 Ohio census age 54, son Alanson age 13, daughter Ellen S Craven 18 married David Lupton 23.
Peggy This is what I know.
My great grandfather Isaac Craven's father was a Thomas W. Craven. Family story is that Thomas died from a fall off a horse before Isaac was born. Can't verify yet. Isaac was born in Clinton County OH.(Sabina) in 1875. Only Thomas I can find married a Sarah C."Kate" Runnels on Aug. 31 1870 in Clinton county. My great aunt (96) stated that a Lansen was Thomas's father. They only Lanson I know was married on Feb.7,1877 in Highland county OH . Notice the dates kind of backwards. I found will the help of some nice people that the 1870 Ohio census has a Thomas Craven age 54, Alanson age 13, and a Ellen S. Craven 18 married a David Lupton 23. It stated their birthplace to be NJ. No wife listed for Thomas. Found Mary Emley married a Thomas Craven in 1810 in NJ. Believe that to be his 1st. wife, Sarah to be his 2nd. wife. and Isaac and Lanson to be 1/2 brothers 18 years apart. Does that sound odd? I'm hoping I pieced it together. Waitng on marriage certificates from courthouse for verification. So that is where Mary Emley fits in. What do you know about Mary Emley? Mary

gaps in the line

Hullo! I fairly recently discovered the Emley connection in my family tree, and was wondering if anyone has further information regarding the gap between John Emley 'the Elder' (abt. 1485-1550) and Paul Emley (born abt. 1230), and the gap between Roger de Emley (born abt. 1205) and Sir John de Emley. Also, I haven't been able to find records for the women of the family. The farthest back I can go is Margery Grantham, wife of Thomas Emley 'the Younger' (born abt. 1580). Any help would be greatly appreciated!

~Chloe Massarello
