John D. & Martha L. McGill EMMETT m 1853 Mobile AL
What happened to this couple and their 3 children after the 1860 Census?
John D. Emmett
b. abt 1831 AL &
Martha L. McGill b abt 1835 AL
m. 24 Feb 1853 AL
[Source=http://www.mobile-county.net/probate]
Martha L. was d/o Hiram McGill.
Her father & siblings lived in Baldwin Co., AL.
The couple are on the 1860 Census in Baldwin County AL with 3 sons:
J.H. (6)=b abt 1854;
W.H. (3)=b abt 1857; and
P.H. (1)=b abt 1869.
[Those enumerators!]
They are living next door to Martha's brother, William McGill, whom we believe is a Civil War deserter who disappears from AL and reappears in TX (?)
I found "a" John D. Emmett listed as a Confederate soldier - 32nd Regiment of the AL Infantry-Is it he(?) [Source=http://www.civilwar.nps.gov/cwss/soldiers.cfm]
There is also a FL Land Record for
"a" John D. Emmett - issue date July 2, 1901
- 79.76 acres - from the Gainesville, FL Land Office. [same guy?]
After that ----- NOTHING!
I did not realize how few "EMMETT's" there were in AL.
HELP!
