Hi

I have done a bit of tracing on my family tree a few years ago on the Emmitt side. The names Albert and Peregrine feature alot and they lived in Hull, before that they lived in Lincolnshire, mostly around the Boston area. I have managed to go back to the 1600's so I may have some common ancestors with you. If you want the data I have let me know.

Lincolnshire UK
Hi all

There is a family myth/legend on our side that if a male offspring had
Emmitt included in his name, then he may share in a legacy. This never
materialised but the legend lives on to this day and some are still given
this as a middle name.

Time to practice what I preach and post my earliest EMMITT family.

My earliest is ALBERT EMMITT [5th great grandfather] and all we know about
him is that he died in HULL. We do not know who his wife was and two of his
children were George [my line] and Peregrine. Data very scarce on this
family.

We know that son George was married in Pinchbeck LIN to ELIZABETH BUDDLE in
1796. We have traced two children: Elizabeth and George [my line]. No other
data available

George, son of George and Elizabeth, was born/bap at Spalding in 1806. He
married MARIA HAMMOND at Boston on 23rd June 1825. Their children were
Hammond, Harriett, John, Elizabeth [my line] and Maria.

Elizabeth was baptised at Thornton le Fen LIN on 13th April 1834. She
married WILLIAM SYDDELL at Wisbech CAM in 1851. Their children were Hammond
Emmitt, Thomas George, Fanny, Elizabeth, Anna Maria, George Reckerby Emmitt
[my line], Harriett, William Snasdell Emmitt. William later remarried to a
Kezia after 1875.

Reckerby was the surname of a family friend. Does anyone know of any others
with this as a first or middle name, or who the friend was?

Regards
Steve

Hello fellow researchers

Please allow me to introduce myself as the Administrator for this board. I have been researching this family for a number of years and have enjoyed the assistance of others, both on and off this board. I do not profess to be the most knowledgeable researcher but will do all I can to see that you get what assistance is available.

Rules for using the board are brief and simple. Please enjoy it, be courteous to others, help where you feel that you can, be patient with newcomers and above all please stay within the Rootsweb guidelines.

IMPORTANT:
Please, please, please, always post your requests with any other surnames highlighted in capital [upper case] letters in the subject line as this makes it so much easier for readers to spot likely matches and actually read your message.

Lets get the board going again with a general 'where I am back to' in my research. Just email your earliest family member and see if others can help you get back further.

Happy hunting
Steve Syddell
Admin.

Emmitt name listed in Kennedy Cemetery in Chesnut Mountain, GA

If anyone is interested, I have just uploaded ALL of the headstone/tombstone pictures of the Family names in the Kennedy cemetery for:
Adam, Bell, Benton, Boggs, Brown, Cooper, Daniel, Emmitt, Foster, Hanes, Kennedy, Lancaster, Little, Lowery, Maddox, Merritt, Orr, Pirkle, Smith, Turk, Wellborn, and Young.

The cemetery list is complete, with the exception of two graves that have stones broken to the ground and are missing.
The cemetery is located on Winder Highway (Hwy 53 and 211 junction) It is not well kept, although the sign was recently posted and construction is going on quite near. It is just before the Golden Pantry store, or just after, depending which way you come and the store sits at the corner of Hwy 211/53 and Tanner's Mill Road at Chestnut Mountain.

To see the pics and names, go to www.findagrave.com. The site is free and you can begin to search all over the US for volunteers (like myself and my friend) who do this on a weekly basis. You can also search by state and county. With any luck, someone just may have posted a picture of YOUR ancestor too :)

Mary E. Reuss of PA.

David Emmitt has for over half a century been identified with the business interests of York. He was born in York, January 27, 1819, and is a son of Jacob and Lydia (Ilgenfritz) Emmitt, of Irish-German descent. His father who was a relative of Robert Emmitt, of Ireland, and was one of the early men of York, and a soldier of the war of 1812, belonging to the “Independent Blues,” a company of 200 men, of Baltimore. He was an active and respected citizen, and a resident of York until his death in 1865. Our subject received a good education, having the advantage of the schools of York and the York County Academy. He early learned the trade of carpenter, and followed that occupation from 1836 to 1849, when he embarked in the grocery business, on the corner of Beaver and Philadelphia Streets, at which he has since been successfully engaged. Mr. Emmitt is a charter member of the Mt. Zion Lodge, No. 74, I.O.O.F., and a man who has done much to develop the moral interests of his native town. He has been identified for more than thirty-five years with St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, and over thirty years as member of the church council. He has been an active member and a liberal giver for all projects of true moral worth. In 1847 he was married to Miss. Mary E. Reuss daughter of Luke and Mary L. (Beitzel) Reuss. She was born in York, July 22, 1822, and is a descendant of families that have been long identified with the history of York County.

Taken from the book, “History of York County, Illustrated 1886” by John Gibson, Historical Editor

Sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you.

All I have from the family history book is that he lived in northern Ohio his whole life, drove a milk truck for a while before going to work for an automotive company (doesn't mention what his job was there) then worked at an elementary school (again no mention of what he did there) after retiring from the auto company. He and his wife had three children and six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren at the time of his death.

If I was on my good computer (been on the fritz for a few months now) I'd run a family relationship chart and see where he fit, but that programming is not on this computer (and not even sure if it woud run on this ancient machine!) If I'm ever able to afford a new computer, I'll try to remember to do that and post back to you again.

Stanford, born in Dorcester, MD in 1781 and who died in Waverly, Pike County, Ohio around 1826? He is our family patriarch. Trying to find out who her (and presumably John T.'s) father was, if this is the same Ada Stanford. thanks

I recently had an email inquiry about the Peregrine Emmitts in my line. In looking at the history as so far compiled by the family historians (who have been working on this since we began reunions in 1928) I have come up with a list of all the Perrys, Peregrines, Peregrimes & Pettigrimes in the line, back to 1635. I post the list here in hopes that it will assist other Emmitt researchers in determining whether they fit into the same family.

Name Birthdate	Birthplace
Peregrime Emmitt Abt 1670 Grainthorpe, Lincolnshire
Peregrin Emmitt Abt 1635 UNKNOWN
Peregrine Emmitt Abt 1767 Hundleby, Lincolnshire
Peregrine Emmitt Abt 1690 Holton cum Beckering
Peregrine Emmitt Abt Mar 1698/99 Holton cum Beckering
Peregrine Emmitt Abt May 1733 Hagworthingham, Lincolnshire
Peregrine Emmitt 1694 Wickenby, Lincolnshire
Peregrine Emmitt Abt 1801 Hundleby
Peregrine Emmitt Abt 1799 Spalding
Peregrine Emmitt 12 Feb 1668/69 Grainthorpe, Lincolnshire, England
Peregrine Emmitt 1635 UNKNOWN
Peregrine Emmitt 24 Mar 1698/99 Holton, cum Beckering, Lincolnshire, England
Peregrine Emmitt 20 Apr 1690 UNKNOWN
Peregrine Emmitt 31 Oct 1801 Hundleby, Lincolnshire
Peregrine Baines Emmitt 12 Oct 1799 Sausthorpe, Lincolnshire
Perry Emmitt 18 Jun 1854 Huron County, Ohio
Perry Carl Emmitt 9 Oct 1922 UNKNOWN
Perry Conover Emmitt 28 Nov 1901 UNKNOWN
Perry Conover Emmitt 17 Apr 1967 Bowling Green, Ohio
Perry Grime Emmitt 26 Apr 1819 Leasingham, Lincolnshire, England
Perry William Emmitt 21 Dec 1937 UNKNOWN
Peregrin Emmitt b: 1635 in England

I have info on the Peregrine Emmitt line all the way from 1635 in England to the present. If anyone needs info feel free to email me at MsMcQ071050@aol.com. Also would apreciate anything from earlier than what I have.

What I'm looking for is any possible connection to a James Emmitt, who built "The Emmitt House" in Waverly Ohio in the 19th century. The biographical info I've found so far doesn't indicate any connection, so I'm thinking any connection would have to be prior to Peregrine, unless it's a branch in between that we haven't any info on.

David Emmitt of York Co., PA

David Emmitt

Obituary of Robert Emmitt
The Waverly Watchman 19 Oct. 1880
DEATH OF ROBERT EMMITT
Robert Emmitt brother of Hon. James Emmitt, died at his residence in this
place
On Monday night of consumption, age about 70 years (born 17 Feb. 1817) The
deceased was born in Pennsylvania we believe (in Pike Co. near Waverly OH.)
but removed with his parents when a mere boy and settled in the unbroken
wilderness, some 3 or 4 miles north of this place. For many years the
deceased continued to live in this county, but he finally removed out of
it., and until the last past years was a resident of different portions of
the country. After many years though of varing fortune, he returned to
the scenes of his boyhood days, where surrounded by his family and
relatives, he ended his earthly career. Mr Emmitt was a member of the
Presbyterian Church for several years previous to his death. His remains
will be taken to Chillicothe today for interment. (actually Evergreen
Cemetery Waverly )
**************
Information and corrections added by: John W. Emmitt
David M. Emmitt

David spent much of his married life operating James' propertys in Cedar Twp. Boone Co. Missouri. Probably until he became ill about 1890/91. He is buried in Evergreen Cemetery with Mary L. Wagenhals Emmitt and son John H. Emmitt. The Boone Co. MO.property was willed to David and his family written in 1890 but it seems something happened before James died in 1893 causing a John Heible and my grandfather James Rufus Emmitt to be
owners in a partnership in 1891, at least the part of it where
the flourmill, saw mill & the distillery were located. In the
1910 census Davids wife Mary L.
was living on Walnut St. in Waverly with son John H. listed
as a street railway conductor. Mary owned the house.
BTW David Martin was not the youngest son of James. He was second youngest.Henry Clay Emmitt was the last son of James & Louisa. He died in 1872 while
performing as a circus clown with a circus in Memphis Tenn. of yellow fever.
Perhaps this was so long before David died that this son was
unknown to the Author of the obit.
~~~Source~~~
John Emmitt
Thank You John.
