my great, great grandfather arrived in the us (nyc) from alsace in the 1850's we believe. the name was franz joseph enderlin and the franz was anglicized in subsequent generations to francis and they used frank. this seems to be a common set of names from the area, mostly catholic in my experience.

My great-great-grandparents were Joseph Enderlin and Josephine Gershwindt from Alsace, possibly Pfetterhausen, now Pfetterhouse. They had at least six children at the time of the 1880 Census, Rosina Enderlin, my great-grandmother who was married to my great-grandfather and no longer living at home with her parents; Margaretha, born in 1863; Victorina, born in 1875; Louis, born in 1869; Ida, born in 1873 and Joseph Enderline, Jr., born in 1875. I have a several pictures of Joseph and one of Joseph and Josephine Enderlin with two very young girls on their laps. My records indicate that Joseph Enderline was born in 1825 and Josephine Gershwindt was born in 1831. Do you think there is any connection?

I've seen the census information that your referring to, but don't know yet if there is a relationship. Your great, great grandfather that you refer to was a silk hatter in New York (Brooklyn) in the 1880 census.

There was another group of Enderlins - appears to be a family - on the manifest for the Ship Wm Frothingham that arrived in NYC from Havre on February 13, 1861. They were:

I would be happy to shore what I have, although it is only from Pfetterhousen, Alsace. I have a listing of all Enderlin births and marriages from Pfetterhousen which I obtained from a gentleman in Pfetterhousen who is digitizing the town's vital records. I cannot retype all of it. Can you tell me for whom you are looking and I will see if I have a match. Then I can give you the births and marriages.

IS it something you can scan?. My line of Enderlins is from Schlierbach. I guess I was wondering if anyone moved there
