My GGG Grandmother was Wilhelmina [Philomena] Engel who was born on 3 Mar 1816 in Wittenberg, Obersontheim, Germany. She married Oliver Gender and immigrated to the US about 1852-3. Oliver was lost at sea. Wilhelmina remarried Roch Aberton.
She died on 14 Dec 1894 in New Orleans.

I have no idea how Wilhelmina ended up in New Orleans, since Oliver was lost at sea. I can only imagine is that New Orleans had been their destination.

I would like to find the names of Wilhelmina's parents in Germany, but don't have a clue how to go about doing this. Would anyone "out there" have any ideas? I do not speak or read German
