Re: Abraham Lincoln/Enloe Connection

Charlotte, I appreciate your honesty and objectivity. It is ironic that the Enlow argument claims a "lack of hard data in the Kentucky Tradition" since there is the Kentucky Lincoln-Hanks marriage record but absolutely no documentation to support a North Carolina connection. The mere occurrence of the name Nancy Hanks in North Carolina is certainly no proof. Indeed, there are eight different Thomas Lincolns in the 1810 census between Maine and Kentucky (but of course only one marriage of a Thomas Lincoln and Nancy Hanks).

SHARTZER, M. ALLEN formerly of Kent Heights, died Thursday, June 7, 2012 at Coventry Health Center with his wife Alice (Areknaz Melkonian) Shartzer by his side. He celebrated his 83rd birthday on May 24th with his family. He was born in 1929 in Akron, Ohio to Daniel Owen Shartzer and Margaret Ann Dean Shartzer. The Enlow family settled in 1630 in Farmington, Fayette County, PA. His grandmother was Millie May Enlow Shartzer, grandfather Marcellus Shartzer and grandmother Harriet "Haddie" Dean. Allen graduated from Central High School in Akron, Ohio. He served 4 years in the US Navy -VP24- where he specialized in airplane maintenance. He later worked at Pratt Whitney in East Hartford, CT. While in the Navy Allen met Alice at Quonset Point. They later married at Sts. Vartanantz Armenian Apostolic Church where Allen was also baptized. His in-laws Stephen and Vartanoosh "Rose" Melkonian welcomed him into the Armenian family. Allen graduated from Bryant College with a degree in accounting. Allen owned and managed Mark Allen's Dartmouth Apartments in Providence for 40 years, while he was a union carpenter. He also owned and managed Chase Auto Body Works for 20 years alongside his wife. Later in his career he worked as a blackjack dealer at Foxwoods Resorts & Casino in CT and with the RIPTA RIDE Program. Allen was a member of AASR Northern Masonic Jurisdiction, USA since 1984 at 32rd Degree Fellowship and served as President for one year. He was a member of "HYE" Hackers Golf League for 25 years and many bowling leagues in Rhode Island. Allen was supportive of his children's sports, art, and cultural activities at East Providence Sr. High School, Sts. Vartanantz Armenian and Sunday Schools, AYF and Camp Haiastan. Allen is survived by his wife Alice; children, Cynthia L. Shartzer and son-in-law Brian Green of Lima, Peru, Linda Rose Shartzer of Houston, TX, and Stephen AM Shartzer and daughter-in-law Stacey AF Shartzer and granddaughters Alexandra Vartanoosh Davidian Shartzer and Victoria Josephine Melkonian Shartzer, all of Danville, CA. He is also survived by his sister Harriet Shartzer Reynolds of Akron, OH and over 20 nieces and nephews, including David and Stephanie Emerian of Cranston. Allen is predeceased by his brothers Fred and Ewart and sisters Barbara and Janet. Allen taught his children to persevere when they fall and gave them wings to fly and grow. He persevered until his last day. He will join his mother who passed when he was 10 years old and now he can rest in peace. He will be truly missed. His funeral will begin Friday at 10am from the REBELLO FUNERAL HOME, 901 Broadway, East Providence, with a Funeral Service at 11am in Sts.
Enlow/Deaton question. Of the 12 children listed to James Wheeler ENLOW and Myrtle Marie DEATON (died 1920)I think only a couple were their children together and the others are from the marriage to Letha Mary HARLEN. Is this correct?

I have the dates of birth for Joy 1916. F. Sybil 1918. Emma Irene 1928. James Wheeler Jr 1926. Billy Toyce 1938 and Myrtle 1930. Have not found the other children's birth dates yet.

I am trying to make sure I am tracing the correct line. If Myrtle died in 1920 the only one's that could be theirs together are Joy and F.Sybil. Can you shed any more light on this for me? I have not been able to find any records on Myrtle Marie as of yet.

Thank you for any help you can give me

Franklin Enlow

Seeking information on the above Enlow. He was a member of the Lutheran Church at Newberry, S.C. He was wounded at Chancellorsville in 1863. This is according to an article in the Southern Lutheran, Issue of Oct. 31, 1863. I think he is connected in some way to Deason Enlow's line. It could be that this is Doctor Franklin Enlow but have not been able to establish this. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated. Thank you

We are 4th cousins, once removed. Our direct ancestral lineage is:

Wayne Cecil Enlow (b 28 Apr 1916 in Indiana; d May 1972) and Gertrude Mable Strange (b 27 Oct 1917 in Warrick Co, Indiana; d unk)

Seaney Irene Love (b 17 Sept 1891, Kentucky; d 1954?) and Floyd Daniel Enlow (b 18 Mar 1884, Harrison Co, IN; d June 1965, Evansville, IN). According to the 1942 Evansville City directory, they were chiropractors. They had three known children, including Wayne.

Edward Love (b 9 Nov 1847, Harrison Co, IN) and Ellen Margaret Atwell (b 24 Aug 1861, Meade Co, KY; d 6 Jan 1929, Ashcrafts Twp, Meade Co, KY). They had at least 7 children.

Julia Ann Ripperdan (b 5 Jun 1825, Harrison Co, IN; d 23 Jan 1863, Harrison Co) and Daniel Baker Love (b 30 Dec 1816; d 10 May 1904, prob in Harrison Co). They had at least 9 children. After Julia's death, Daniel Baker Love married Angeline Hardsaw and had at least six more children.

William Ripperdan (b 13 June 1803, KY; d 5 March 1864, presumed drowned in the Ohio River off New Amsterdam, IN) and Emily Fleshman (b 1805; d 1861). They had 10 children. William was a gambler and entertainer on the riverboats that landed in New Amsterdam. His death may not have been accidental. William and Emily are our nearest common ancestor.

John Ripperdan (b 11 Oct 1779, prob Virginia but possibly PA; d 22 Jun 1844, Harrison Co, IN) and Mary 'Polly' Shepherd (b 23 Sept 1783, VA; d 5 Oct 1861, Harrison Co, IN). John and Polly were married in Mercer Co, KY on 20 May 1802. They had 8 children.

Frederick Ripperdan (b 1745?; d 1829, KY) and Sarah Chiticks (b 1742?; d 1836?, KY). There is a lot of information on the web about Frederick and Sarah.

I have more--this gets you started, but I can send the 'big list' of the descendents of John Ripperdan if you give me an email address.

-rob

Hi Rob,
Thank you for responding! I never knew my dad (his choice)or his family, except what I heard from people. My family never wanted to talk about him. It's amazing when you hear more about your "family" from strangers. Nothing has changed...he still wants no contact with me. OH well...lived without him this long. But I would love to know what info you have. and it's exciting to have contact with someone on his side of the family. I don't think I have anything to share in return that you don't know, but if I do I will be glad to pass it on. :) Hope to see your reply soon!

I've been following your posts re: Donald Wayne Enlow, and hope all has worked out OK. You have an interesting story to tell.

I am only remotely related to you, but have a ton of information about your great-grandmother Seaney Irene Love Enlow, wife of Floyd Daniel Enlow. She is descended from Frederick Ripperdan, one of the earlier pioneers in Kentucky (1780), and his son John, who is reputed to be the first person to settle the area near New Amsterdam in Harrison County, Indiana. I am happy to share what I have with you. If you're searching for extended family, it doesn't get more extensive than 60 pages of 5th, 6th, and 7th cousins!

-rob

POW/MIA Korean War, ENLOW

I am searching for the family of a soldier who was killed in the Korea War. When he entered service he gave Wayne, Michigan as his home of record. His remains were never recovered. Our government has no family contact at this time for this soldier

Soldier: FRED L ENLOW
Born: March 10, 1930 Black
Date of loss: November 27, 1950 MIA

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (79years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

Harold Davis
40th Infantry Division
Korea ’52-‘53
910-791-2333
hgdavis@bellsouth.net
Dear Vicki,

It does this old woman's heart good, to know that I am able to help. I'm in my 8th decade of life and have been studying family history, for a very long time. It is my hope that I can continue to do this for, at least a while longer. I'm just passing on, to another, all the help along the way, that I've gotten, from others. You're so very welcome and I'm hoping that you and your dad can be reunited, at least somewhat.

I found the obit, on ancestry.com.
Vicki,

I found some information, on a Donald W. Enlow born about 1937, who married a Linda M. Cunningham 3 July, 1965, in San Diego, California. If this is yours, let me know and I will post what I've found, which may be of help, to you. I don't want to give you any false hope, so am trying to make sure, as possible, that this is the right one.

Ethel

Hi Peggy,
My name is Judy Pohlman, my mother was Rosalie Frances Enlow, direct decendent of Samual Willis Enlow, whose father was Robert Enlow who married Ramie Hudson who was suppose to be Cherokee. I'v been wirking on the tree too, and I think there wasa Robert Enlow Sr who was married to a full blooded Cherokee. Maybe we can exchange info.

Thanks
Judy
