My relative was Johann Heinrich Enneking II who married Maria Elizabeth Kleine-Piening in Damme Germany Jan 1,1825. He was born in Damme on Sept 9,1792 and she Feb 28,1798. They died of cholera at sea on the way to Baltimore around 1850. Does anyone have any further info.It seems their son John Henry III,was of my clan. He married Maria Anna Drahman and they lived in the Cincinnati area. Thanks,Leslie Raasch

Thanks for the info. My Johann Heinrich Enneking was born May 1,1831 in Oldenburg and died Dec 20,1894. He emigrated in 1848 and married Anna Drahmann, also from Oldenburg. He worked as a merchant tailor at Drahmann and Enneking. He is buried in St.Stephen Cemetery in Ft.Thomas,KY . His son Henry J, is also buried there, next to his wife,Angela Widrig. It seems the Drahmann and Enneking clans are all tailors. Very confusing. Henry was a traveling salesman of wholesale tailor trimmings and later a partner at JJ Carbery.Henry had 9 children,6 making it to adulthood.I will try to contact Johannes. Thanks,Leslie

Hello Leslie
I am related to Johann Bernhard Enneking, born Dec.10.1832 in Damme-Oldorf, Oldenburg,Germany. He married in America to Elisabeth Heuer and was a merchant tailor in Cincinnati, too. He lived in Cincinnati Madison Pike. In a letter from Juli.21.1887 he wrote to his son in law:
I was employed by Henry Enneking for nearly 2 years – but owing to dull trade, and in order to reduce his office expenses my services were no longer required after April. My assistend is now the bookkeeper……. .
Is that your Henry who was a travelling salesman for a tailor trimming business, and later a partner at JJ Carbery.

I looked also for your Johann Heinrich Enneking, born 1831, but I could not find him. There are a lot of Johann Heinrich Enneking born around Damme, but I didn’t find one born in this year. I have a family tree of Heye Enneking, there is only one near this date, born 7. Mai 1825, but he took the name Brüggenschmidt in America.
There was a 2. line Enneking in Damme at that time Tebben-Enneking. I have also a small family tree of Tebbe-Enneking, There are more Joh.Hein., but also not this day. Maybe it is a son who didn’t live on the farm. You should contact:
Johannes Enneking Auf den Kuhlen 24, 49401 Damme/Oldenburg
www.enneking.org/ - 7k
Christa Bösemeyer

I have recently be in contact with a descendant of Johann Bernhard Enneking (1759 Oldorf-1812) m. 06.02.1787 in Damme to Maria Angela BORGERDING ( b?-d?).

She provided the following list of NINE Children:

Bernd Enneking maried 06.02.1787 in Damme Maria Angela Borgerding They were parents of 9 children:

1.	son Johann Heinrich Enneking born 17.04.1788
2.	daughter Anna Maria Enneking born am 02.03.1790 in Damme.
3.	son Herman Heinrich Enneking born am 29.10.1792 in Damme, died 12.02.1849
4.	son Johan Bernard Enneking born am 28.12.1794 in Damme
5.	daughter Maria Elisabeth Enneking born 28.02.1797 in Damme
6.	son Johann Henrich Enneking born am 03.04.1798 in Damme, died 01.12.1872, buried 3.12.1872, he married 13.04.1853 in Minster Auglaize Ohio Mary Elisabeth Busse, daughter of Johann Heinrich Busse and Anna Maria born Ostmann, born 07.12.1801 in Oldenburg Germany, died 13.4.1835. they had 6 children Bernard Henry Enneking born. 25.06.1836 born 27.07.1842, John Clemens Enneking born 10.12.1838, died 21.06.1871 Elizabeth Enneking born 01.03.1841 died 20.09.1923, Josephine Enneking born 05.05.1843 died 06.03.1924 Maria Elizabeth Enneking, born 04.07.1850, all born in Minster Auglaize, Ohio
7.	daughter Maria Elisabeth Enneking born am 10.01.1801 in Damme died 03.03.1853
8.	son Joh. Friedrich Enneking born 12.2.1804 in Damme (siehe 60)
9.	daughter Marie Elisabeth Enneking born 01.05.1827 in Damme

This ancestor I am corresponding with descends from #8 child, Johann Friedrich Ennecking b1833 Oldorf.

Further the person married as follows:

Johann Friedrich Enneking born 12. Feb.1804 in Oldorf married 1. Mai 1827 in Damme Maria Elisabeth Dyckhuis born 21. Sept. 1807 in Damme. Their children :
1.	daughter Anna Maria born 08.09.1829
2.	son Johann Bernhard Enneking born 10.12.1832 (siehe 30) After immigration to the USA, John, his sister and parents lived in Cincinnati. As of the 1870 US Census this family was living in the Woodburn district on Madison Pike, east of the present day St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church at the northeast corner of Madison/Woodburn. At this time the ennumeration reflected:

John Enneking, age 37 (b circa 1833, Oldenburg), Wholesale Cloth Dealer, home $30,000
Elizabeth Enneking, age 37 (b circa 1833, Hanover), Keeps House
Anna Enneking, 14, (b circa 1855)
Josephine Enneking, 12, (b circa 1858)
Harry Enneking, 9 (b circa 1861)
William Enneking, 3 (b circa 1867)
Albert Enneking, 6/12 months (b circa 1870)
Mary Mache, 18, Domestic servant (Prussia)
John Heller, 28, Teamster, (Switzerland)

Their daughter Anne (b 1855) returned to Germany to the Bissendorf area near Osnabruck, south of Damme with her husband August Klausmeyer.

This Ancestor is trying to link up with other Ennekings and would definitely be interested in the Enneking family tree in Damme at Alloyss Enneking's family farm. Does anyone know if Fr. David Hoying in Minster, Ohio has an email address. I'd like to get in touch with him. I have another Enneking link I am trying figure out.

Martin Detmer (1868-1928) married Anne Enneking (1868-1892--dying at child birth). The son was Howard (b 1891).

Married 6 February 1889 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Cincinnati, OH (Woodburn/East Walnut Hills) by Father Quatman to Anne Enneking (born 1868, Kentucky- died 1892).

Anne’s family and a number of extended family members lived in Walnut Hills. Anna’s parents were Fred Enneking (born 1850; d?) and Mary A. Enneking (b 1852; d?). Her dad was in the tailor trimmings business (likely with the Detmers and Kleines), both were born in Ohio and their parents were from Germany. Anne had a brother, Edward (b 1878;died?). Around the 1860’s at the time of Annie’s birth, the family was in Kentucky (possibly right across the Ohio river).

Frederick Enneking, born 1822, Oldenburg, was a retired tailor during the 1880 census (he was 58 at the time married to a Hannah?). The enumeration strongly suggests that Fred (b 1850) was Frederick’s son, or Uncle, in view of the trade and location in Cincinnati, 3rd Ward. In 1880 Frederick (Sr) still had one son with him, Charles, b 1860 who was keeping a trimming store. Mary Meyer (a widow during 1880), was Frederick’s daughter. She had three children living with her—Edward 10, Frank 8, Annie 7. Mary’s mother-in-law, Elizabeth Meyer, age 73 was also living with them. Right next door was John B Enneking (likely Frederick’s brother, merchant),age 48, born 1832 in Oldenburg, married to an Elizabeth, age 47 from Germany. They had four children living with them, Jessia 21 (born in Germany), Harvy G. 18. William F. 13, Annie L. Claus (daughter to Frederick) 24, Meyer August Claus (son-in-law) 36, and their children Mary 5, John S. 3, and Paul J. 1. Fred B. Enneking must have known and socialized with Joseph Kleine because he was one of the officers of the German Catholic Cemetry Association of Cincinnati, along with John Luken.
