Just saw this now. Are your Enrights from the border area of North East Kerry & North West Limerick?

I have both those surnames in my tree related to me.

A Julia McElligot (bc 1815-1820 - Ballymackessy, Ballylongford, Co. Kerry, Ireland) married a Connors whoose child ends up marrying an Enright in 1868 in St Mary's in Glin. Lived for a time in Killeaney Beg, Glin, Co. Limmerick, Ireland.

Thank You for the info. My John OKelley Enright arrived in the US in 1863--so this is probably not him--but certainly an intriguing set of coincidences! Im SO glad to have the online Parish record resource, too. I will make use of it today, and see where it goes! I really appreciate your help :)

Hi I have worked on my husbands Enright's and I am pretty sure they are from County Kerry, but the interesting thing is the ships passenger list of the Ship Carack out of Liverpool, landed at the Port of New Orleans, November 29, 1851.
Search on ancestry under Emright if you can't find it under Enright. My husband's ancestor Robert Enright is on the ship with his parent's Matthew and Nancy, also Bartholomew 18 and Ellen Enright 20. The interesting thing is a John Kelly (15 years old) is traveling with them. Occupation weavers from Ireland. They ended up in Hancock County, Indiana. Three other grown sons of of Matthew an his wife Nancy (also known as Ann) had come a few years earlier to work on the railroad in Dearborn County, Indiana. I don't know if they are any relation to your Enright's but found some free online Parish records from county Kerry at Baptisms of Causeway Parish, Diocese of Kerry, Ireland; http://www.irishgenealogy.ie/index.html, Indiana.

The OKELLY is on John OK Enright's Naturalization Certificate, and also on burial permit from March 3, 1906--No obituary; apparently it was very important to him to carry that name...(mother's maiden name??) Born 1845 in Ireland (NO IDEA WHERE)Immigrated about 1863, to Chicago. Had a brother Dennis, sister Mary, both came to Chicago. Father's name also John Enright. He was a Saloonkeeper in Ireland and in Chicago, where he lived out his life. Married Annie Marie Reidy. B. 1850(also immigrated from Ireland) on Jan. 27, 1870 at Old St. Patricks Church, Chicago; children: Nellie, Thomas, John,Annie, Susan, Dennis & Mary (twins)and James. Thomas Enright, age 38, was the first burial in a Cemetery lot John OK Enright purchased for that same burial in 1868, Calvary Cemetery in Evanston, IL. perhaps Thomas was a brother/Cousin? I cannot FIND a clue to locate him or his family in Ireland--would appreciate any help !!!!! He is my Great-Grandfather.

It looks like I'm about 10 years late to this conversation. I'm searching for information on my great grandfather Cornelius Enright. He was naturalized in Delaware County, Ohio about 1870. His first child Minnie Enright was born in Ohio in 1876. My grandfather's baptismal certificate gives his mother's maiden name as Cynthis Jane Reihe. She was born in Ohio per the 1880 census. At that time they were living in Dickinson County, Kansas where they settled and began the clan to which I belong. Any help in learning more information would be greatly appreciated.

Bill Enright

After she died, he married Grace Howard nee Rorer, my great-grandmother.
I have his parents as Alexander M Maxwell and Sophia C. Armsey. I have his grandparents as Thomas Maxwell and Charlotte Missouri Corbin.
He was born in West Virginia, married Miss Enright in Louisiana, and lived in Chicago for most of his adult life.

Any information about his siblings, parents, grandparents, children, etc. would be very much appreciated! Thank you!

`You never know how accurate census information is, but the 1920 Marion Co., OH census for an Anna Goss, 84, with children William and Ella, shows that she immigrated to the U.S. in 1852 and was a naturalized citizen. If that immigration year is accurate, she arrived here two years after Fenton Goss shows up in the 1850 New Jersey census. You might try to get a hold of her naturalization papers, which might have the information on when and where she arrived in the U.S. and the name of the ship that brought her here. It also may have info on her family back in Ireland.

Patrick Goss, born 1827, Ireland-died Oct 1867, and wife, Mary Enright Goss, born 1832, Ireland, died 1914, are both buried in Oak Dale Cemetery, Champaign Co., OH. The burial info didn't give the father's name of Patrick Goss, but the father of Mary Enright Goss that was listed was a John Enright. Your Annie/Anna Enright Goss was the daughter of a Michael Enright. Patrick Goss and Fenton may be brothers, but Mary Enright Goss and Annie/Anna Enright Goss, if related, may just be cousins.
I can send you all the birth, marriage and death records that I've found on the children of both Fenton and Patrick Goss.
By the way, the 1890 death record for Lizzie (Elizabeth?) Goss, one of the daughter's of Patrick and Mary Enright Goss, was born in 1855 in New Jersey.

Contact me off the board at ljcde9 (at) aol.com
Regards,
Lionel C.

I forgot to add that I've found that Fenton and Ann's children were listed in a newspaper as travelling to Urbana, Ohio for their aunt's funeral. Her married name? Mary Goss. Mary's husband's name was Patrick Goss. So apparently Patrick and Fenton were brothers. The very interesting thing is that Mary's maiden name was (you guessed it) Enright.

So Fenton Goss married Ann Enright, Patrick Goss married Mary Enright. What are the odds that Fenton and Patrick (brothers) married Ann and Mary (sisters)? I'd say pretty high.

Hi Lionel,

Wow, thank you for all of that information! Some of it I did have, but it's one of those things where someone else presents it differently and some extra lightbulbs go on :) There's just so much there, so many potential avenues to explore. I really appreciate you putting that together and posting it. Thank you!

The worst thing about having a hobby like genealogy is that your other priorities in daily life feel like intrusions when you're hot on the trail of something!

You may already have the following information, but if not, here is what I've found.
The 1850 Freehold, Monmouth Co,, New Jersey census has a listing for a Finton Goss, 22, single, born Ireland. The death record for the oldest daughter, Anna Goss, below, who died in Miami Co, Ohio on 12 May, 1934, lists her birthplace as Freehold, Monmouth Co, New Jersey on 12, Jan. 1855.
*********************************************************
DEATHS:
Name: Anna Goss
Titles & Terms:
Death Date: 12 May 1934
Death Place: Piqua, Miami, Ohio
Birth Date: 12 Jan 1855
Estimated Birth Year:
Birthplace: Freehold, N.J.
Death Age: 79 years 4 months 12 days
Gender: Female
Marital Status: Single
Race or Color: Caucasian
Street Address: 412 Park Ave.
Occupation: Housekeeper
Residence: Piqua, O.
Burial Date: 15 May 1934
Burial Place: Marion, O.
Cemetery Name:
Father's Name: Fenten Goss
Father's Birthplace: Ireland
Mother's Name: Anna Enright
Mother's Birthplace: Ireland
Film Number: 1993034
Digital Folder Number: 4001901
Image Number: 3014
Certificate Number: fn 32456
Collection: Ohio Deaths, 1908-1953
********************************************************
If Fenton Goss married Annie Enright in Ireland and he arrived here first, you might try checking Ancestry immigration records for a passenger list for an Ann/Annie Goss entering the U.S. between 1850 and 1854. You, also, might try checking with Monmouth Co, NJ to see if they recorded marriage, or birth records back in the 1850's

According to Ohio death records, Fenton Goss died 28, Sept. 1896 in Allen, Union Co, Ohio at the age of 63. His birth year is given as 1833. The record doesn't give the cemetery's name where he is buried.

Ann Goss, age 93, born 25 May, 1834 in Limerick, Ireland, died 11 Apr. 1928 in Marion, Marion Co, Ohio. She was buried 14 April 1928 in St. Mary's Cemetery

You might try to checking with St. Mary's cemetery to see if the have burial information or family information on Annie Goss that might be of some help in tracing her back to Ireland.

You should also check with the public libraries in the Ohio counties where Fenton and Annie Goss died to check if they offer newspaper obituary look-up services.

In looking at the 1880 Ohio census, Fenton and Ann Goss had a lot of children.
Have you been able to track down any descendants of those children to see if they have any family info the might be of some help in your search?

Here are a few Ireland websites that may be of some help in your search.
******************************************************
1) Ireland Genealogy Projects Archives
www.igp-web.com/IGPArchives/
2) Irish Genealogy
http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/
3) Irish Family History Foundation: Irish Birth, Marriage and Death records
www.rootsireland.ie/
4) General Register Office Ireland
www.groireland.ie/
5) Griffith's Valuation
www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/index.xml
6) Ireland GenWeb Project
www.irelandgenweb.com/
7) Roots Chat-Ireland Forum
www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/board,50.0.html
*************************************************
Not related, just trying to help.
Hi everyone,

I'm looking for information on my 3rd great grandmother, Ann Enright. All I have on her is that she was born 1834 in Limerick, Ireland (father: Michael Enright). She married Fenton Goss, also born in Limerick and came to Ohio. I'm not sure if they were married when they emigrated or if they met in the US.

If anyone has her in their tree and is willing to share anything, I would really appreciate it.

Her daughter, Josephine, is my line.

I am still playing with it, William and John could have been brothers. John was born in 1925. The write up in the Burlington paper on his death makes him sound like he was a well known person and well liked in the town though when you go to find anything out about him there is nothing to be found. I don't know if I told you he is buried in one cemetery the Catholic one in Burlington and his wife is in another with the rest of the Enrights, He is alone now explain that one.
Thanks for the dates more later.

Chuck, Cornelius was baptised in Apr. 1845 (though his headstone says 1836, I am convinced that it is incorrect because it was replaced by my father and his siblings in the 1970s). William was born abt 1810-1815 his wife Ellen Madigan was born in 1816.

Bill
My great grandfather's name was Cornelius Enright. His parent's were William Enright and Ellen Madigan. There were 3 Enright families that settled along the Union Pacific railroad line through. 1 in Chapman, yours near Burlington and mine near Solomon, Ks.
There seems to be 3 Enright families who settled in Kansas at about the same time (1870-1880) 1 near Chapman who appear to have arrived through New Orleans, my great grandfather Cornelius who settled on a farm near Solomon, Kansas after first arriving & marrying in Ohio and another family near Ellis, Kansas. All 3 families settled along the Union Pacific Railroad route through Kansas. I have been trying to locate siblings of Cornelius. He appears to have been born in Shanagolden Parish in Co. Limerick, probably in the area of Glin or Ballyhahill. He was born to William Enright and Ellen Madigan in 1845. If anyone has additional info. please let me know.

Hi, my name is William (Bill) Enright of Salina, Kansas. While trying to locate my ancestors I came across the name Morgan Enright in a tithe applotment book for 1841. I was looking for my 2nd great grandfather William Enright who was the father of Cornelius Enright my great grandfather. William's wife was Ellen Madigan and on the tithe applotment register there is a Michael Madigan & a Patrick Madigan living as neighbors in the townland of Ballycormack to Maurice Enright. My great grandfather Cornelius was born in that area in 1845, and it seems possible that we may have a connection in the at area.

Happy Hunting,
Bill

I have not run across a Jesse. There were a number of Enright families living in the townlands of Kilmoylan & Ardagh in Co. Limerick at the end of the 19th century.

Hello, my great grandfather was baptised in Shanagolden Parish, Co. Limerick in Apr 1845. His parents were William Enright and Ellen Madigan. The sponsors at his baptism were Michael Enright and Bridget Walsh. I have assumed that Michael & William were brothers and that Bridget Walsh was Michael's wife.

Good luck with your search.
Bill
Hello Michelle, my name is William (Bill) Enright of Salina, Ks USA. I am searching for siblings of my great grandfather Cornelius Enright baptised Apr 5, 1845 in Shanagolden parish, Co. Limerick. His parents were William Enright and Ellen Madigan. The witnesses were Michael Enright and Bridget Walsh. I am assuming Michael and William were brothers, but I have no documentation of that. I know there were several Enright families in that area including a James Enright & John Enright. John was a fly rod maker and his son John also was specifically requested to make fly rods for the last Tsar of Russia, Nicholas. I remember that because he also had a son Cornelius but that Cornelius was born in 1836, so was older than my great grandfather.

Happy Hunting,
Bill
