Hi Cheryl
Just read your message re David Enns and Katharina Petkau. If you have not received any info, I think I can help. You can purchase a CD from the Mennonite Historical Society at 600 Shaftsbury Blvd. in Winnipeg. It is Grandma #5. I have it and found the info you are looking for on there. There are 30 printable pages re Cornelius Martens and 16 pages for David Enns. If this is not possible, let me know by emailing me your address and I will print and mail to you. My e-mail address is pthiessen@sympatico.ca. By the way, I am related to Enns's and my wife to Petkaus.
Paul
I know that the ens's were minnontite (pardon mt spelling), my grampa (Henry)was born in mexico, and migrated to canada when he was young. He moved to sask. (I believe) it is hard to track down his history because he became an orphan aswell when he was young. He had a sister named susan, and a brother named william. Susan curently lives in arazona. that is as much info that i have curently. sorry.
janine

Hi Robert, I'm not an Ens , but i'm doing some research for a friend of mine who is . He does not know much about his family, but i may have found a ship list that had his father's family on it.It immigrated from Liverpool to Quebec ,Canada in 1901 the destination said Winnipeg Manitoba , which is probably right , because they settled in Saskatchewan. I would like to know if you have info about all the old countries..He believes his father's family came from Russia, maybe even Netherlands or Prussia...
any info would be nice .....His father's name was Peter Ens born in 1899 or 1900, & a brother was Issac...
Thanks for any help.....

My wife was an Ens. Her family is Mennonite & came to Canada from Russia. She is from Wymark (Schoenfeld & Chortitz), SK & I know that both her parents were born there, although I believe the grandparents came from Manitoba. I know that she has a copy of a diary which one of her ancestors kept on the journey over from Russia.

I can see what information she has if you are interested.

Yours truly,
Mark Cardinal

Just a brief note to let you know that I don't have a book. I had understood that there was an entire diary (in German of course) but as it turns out, it is only a small excerpt which has been translated to English. My wife's parents have a history book of the Wymark, SK area which has information on my father-in-laws parents/family and his parents/family. I don't have the information here with me today but will bring it in tomorrow to send what I have. I know that Cheryl's grandfathers name was Bernhard Ens. I will send you what I have. His parents only stayed in Canada a very short time and then left for Mexico with a large part of the family during one of the great migrations. Bernhard's mother died enroute to Mexico and his father died within a couple of years of arriving there. It is quite an amazing story.
Mark

Hi Ron-there is a 3 volume set of books on Mennonite history from its beginnings pre Menno Simons to modern day Canada and all of the countries between that you might find helpful. The books are called: Mennonites in Canada 1786-1920, 2nd volume, same but 1920-1940, both of these are by Frank Epp, volume 3 is by T.D.Reghr: Mennonites in Canada, 1939-1970. If you are in Canada you can get these through Interlibrary loan if your own library doesn't have them. I looked at the ship's list you referred to and that Ens family did originate in Russia, I think they may even be related to my Ens ancestor, Helena Mary Ens Janzen, born 1847, married Janzen, married FEHR, married Martens.
