Ensley's - New Jersey/Michigan

Looking for info on any Ensley's that came to Michigan (Newaygo, Montcalm & Kent Counties) from New Jersey. My 2nd great grandfather, Jacob J Ensley was born bet. 1817-1821 in New Jersey and then came to Michigan. He married Hannah (maiden name unknown). She was born bet. 1834-1836 in Canada. Jacob & Hannah had 3 children that I have found on census records, they are Ellen, John J. & Lovina. There is also a Benjamin Ensley from the same area in Michigan (Ensley Twp, Newaygo County) who was also born in New Jersey abt 1829. I think Jacob and Benjamin may be brothers but have no info on their parents or anything else to connect them. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mike

Ensley - Shelby County, Indiana

While looking at the 1900 Addison Township, Shelby County, Indiana census, I came across a Frank and Harry Ensley living in the same house, both listed as head. Can anyone tell me who thier parents might be?

Also, I have a Nathaniel Ensley in Jackson Township, Shelby County, Indiana in 1850, 1860 and 1870, with Mary shown as wife in 1850 and 1860, and Lida as wife in 1870. There is a William A in 1860 and 1870. The kicker here is that Nathaniel is shown as 22 in 1850, 32 in 1860, and amazingly, only 33 in 1870. I have yet to find another Nathaniel, so I'm wondering if this is indeed the same Nathaniel.

An observation .... there were an awful lot of "unoccupied" homes in Shelby County in 1860 - more than I've ever seen on any census. I'm starting to think that the Ensley families must have been in these homes, because I sure can't find many Ensleys (any form of the name) in 1860 in Shelby County!

I've no idea what correct protocol is in the U.S. these days on this volatile subject.

I am white, Anglo-Saxon, nominally American.
I have found numerous black, African, American persons sharing my maternal surname.

I have also, in the course of my research, found data that names slaves owned by my ancestors, and, sometimes, data that links those slaves to families that might be traced.

I understand that such info does not lead "back home", just as much of mine does not, but it occurred to me that the accumulation of such info might be useful to others.

What do you think? Is it useful for me to collect and collate this info? And what, then, is the best way to pass it on?

Jim Boyce
Farges, France

Am searching for James D. and Winney Simpson Ensley who were married in Georgia in 1843. They were the parents of about 10 children, both male and female. They appear on census records for 1850, 1860, 1870, and Winney appears with some of her children in 1880 but no James. I have searched over several states even though both James and Winney listed their birthplace as NC. I appreciate any help anyone can give me. It appears James and Winney just dropped out of Heaven in 1843...think this is true? These are my great grandparents, and I sure would like to find them. Thanks for any info you might have.

Samuel Ensley married Lydia DeFord

Here's what I have: Samuel Ensley married and had 7? children, he then married again to Lydia Elenore DeFord who was a widow with 4 children (Frank, Frederick, ?possibly Bertan, Wallace-names are best guesses from old newspaper clipping). At the time of her death, this Lydia had a brother ?Seward, a sister Mary living in Twin Falls, Idaho, a son Frank (possibly Franklin) living in Cambridge, Idaho and a son Frederick in Tillamok. We think Lydia was Lydia Hoskins originally married to Jasper Branson DeFord. If this grand lady sounds familiar to anyone please help us to verify or discount the information we have. Our Lydia's son Bertan DeFord married Georgia Junkin and had Violet DeFord who had Melvin Blaine Cox who had Michael Blaine Cox (Cole), my husband. Thanks!

NANCY ENSLEY MARRIED WM. STUDDARD 1783 SURRY CO., NC

Does anyone know who the parents are for Nancy Ensley who married William Studdard in 1783 in Surry Co., NC? Nancy and William had 6 children: Mary, Richard, Abraham, Hannah, Thomas & Alcey. Nancy died July 02, 1827 in McMinn Co., TN. There is a record of sale for the estate of James Endsley which shows repeated references to a William and a David Studdard [various spellings] purchasing items at the sale. Could this James Endsley be Nancy's father? James Endsley is of Surry County, NC also. glowyj49@aol.com

Lewis Ensley?

I have been traced back to my great x2 grandfather but have come up against a brick wall trying to locate his father. I believe his name is Lewis Hensley, however another relative of mine has found that there is a possiblity of a name change and it is actually Lewis Ensley. We know his wife was named Mary Foster, they were from Albermerle, VA and birthdate is approximately 1767. He had 2 Children, Samuel Monroe Hensley, and Elizabeth Euell. He had 3 brothers, William, Samuel, and Benjamin, William is possibly a Jr. He also was rumored to have been a boy fifer with the 1st and 10th Regiments of the Continental Line, we also know he lived in Henry Co. Va. before moving to Wayne Co. Ky.

Searching for any information on Nancy Eliza Hoffman, I do not have any dates on her, but believe she would be born around the 1810s. Samuel Hoffman was her husband and I have a death place for both of them in Bellevue, Ohio. Their children's names are: Mariah Louise, Philip Augustus, Samuel Nelson, Mary Ann, Ezra James, and Adda Elizabeth.
I think she may be a sister / cousin of Mariah Strong Ensley who married Sanuel's younger brother Thomas Hoffman.
If you have any information, please e-mail me NMT115@aol.com Thank you.

I have his SSN, birthdate, marriage records,
and military documents. I am not seeking anything more than simply the chance to see or talk
to my real father. William C. Ensley is also the father of my brother William Ensley, and my
sister Janice Ensley. He is African American and served in the army. I know that my father was
also living in Nashville TN near his mother and father as well. If anyone can help me I would
appreciate all and any feedback.
