I think it's a misconception that the Ensor name comes from Edensor!
The origins of the Ensor name are actually from a gentleman who came from... we think... France or Normandy with William the Congueror. His name was Sasualo d'Ensores... one of his decendants was Thomas Endsore who married an heiress, Ann Houpas and the combination of their estates became Edensor. I maybe wrong about some of my detail. Sasualo (sawallo, Sassualo... several spellings) is in Burkes Peerage (a bit inaccurately) and DeBrechts peerage. Decendants of Sasualo started the Iretons, Shirleys, Ensors and Eatington lines.
I have letters from an Historian that will back this up.
Hope this helps, Fran Ensor Van Meer
