Charles Ent, Sr. and his father Theobold/Theobald

I am descended from Charles Ent, Jr. and his wife Winnie Kinman. Looking for assistance in finding a will for Charles Sr., and Theobald, if there are any. In addition, does anyone know who Theobald's parents are? What about records from the Market Square Presbyterian Church,Germantown,Philadelphia,Pennsylvania where Theobald and Maria Barbara Haas were married? Finally, has anyone yet discovered the a date of immigration for the Ent family? I know that this sounds like a large request, it is, but I also have a lot of information I could share.

Ente from NY/NJ

Found my relative Dorothy (AKA Sadie) Muller living next to her parents in Brooklyn, NY in the 1930 census. She is married to Nathan Ente who was born about 1902 in NY. It says they were married about 1920, and have 2 boys: Charles and Chester. Charles was born about 1920 in New Jersey.

Dorothy was named Sady E Barger and listed as a widow in 1/1920 in the 1920 census. So she must have already known Nathan. I don't know if Charles is Mr Barger's son or Nathan's. If anyone has any info on this family please let me know.

I am looking for relatives of the Ent family from Grinnell Iowa. My parents found in their collection a small box of cards showing WWII Battleships probably dated from the era. I would like to return this to the family but want to make sure it's the correct family. Do you have family that lived in the Grinnell area and what were their names?

Respectively and hopefully,

Stuart Johnson

I stumbled on something recently I want to share regarding the possible origin of the name "Otho". If you copy and paste this link into your address bar it takes you to a page about Sir George Ent.

http://www.aim25.ac.uk/cats/8/7172.htm

This article is from the Royal College of Physicians -
"ENT, Sir George (1604-1689)" -

It indicates that Sir George Ent (b.6Nov1604 Sandwich,Kent, England) was the son of Josiah Ent (a Belgian merchant fleeing religous persecution in the Netherlands, who settled in England.) Sir George became a doctor of much reknown in England.

Here is the interesting part. Sir George married Sarah Meverall, daughter of Othowell Meverall (a physician). "Otho" is an unusual name and would be an obvious abbreviation of "Othowell". Perhaps the name "Otho" came down through the Johan Theobold Ent line because he was a descendent Sir George.

I was researching the name Peter Ent and came across Sir George. He may have had a brother named Peter. I know he had a son named Peter. The book "An English consul in Turkey: Paul Rycaut at Smyrna, 1667-1678 By Sonia P. Anderson" cites a Peter Ent, son of Sir George Ent, being bound out as an apprentice in 1668, but he was not sent to Smyrna until four years later.

Sir George also had a daughter named Judith who is buried in a church in London (per Catalogue of the tombs in the churches of the city of London A.D. 1666)

I am a descendent of Peter Ent (b.1787 in NJ or NY -d.1862 or 1863 Andrew County MO). He lived in PA, and Knox County OH, and Andrew County, MO(in 1847). He married Elizabeth Jane Davis (b.1791 in VA d.9Nov1863 in Andrew County, MO)
I am not yet sure how he fits into the known Ent lines.

Linda

Related to my earlier post, I failed to say that the article about William Ent [(son of John, who was son of Peter)and brother of Delilah Graham] in the "History of Northwest Missouri, is two pages long, and gives interesting details about him, and his parents and family. It appears on page 1960 and ends on page 1961, and can be found on Google Books if you use this search:

"History of Northwest Missouri" Ent

Also the book says his grandfather Peter Ent was a native of New Jersey, but another source indicates he was born in Tennesse (no proof that I know of.)

Re: Ent Family

Peter Ent married Sarah Ann (Sally) Croner on 13Apr1862 [per Andrew Co. Missouri Marriages No. 1722, Book A, page 302] Peter was the son of Peter Ent, born about 1786 in Tennessee and Elizabeth Jane Davis, b. 1791) Peter Jr. (husband of Sarah)was the brother of my ancestor Margaret Ent Minteer Goodrich (born in PA). Peter Ent Sr. could have been the son of the Peter Ent who crossed the Delaware with Washington, but I have not made that connection yet. After the Revolutionary war, many families went through the Cumberland Gap and on to Tennessee, but the Indian wars pushed families back north.

Sarah and Peter's children were Margaret Ent Magg, Elias Ent and Jeremiah (Jerry) Ent. I knew Margaret had a daughter Etta Kurz who lived in St. Joseph, MO. I tried to make connections with Etta years ago about family history but failed. A Kellerman researcher told me Etta had done some family history research. Etta was your grandmother's sister.

Sarah Ann Croner (Sally) (b. 1-3-1841) was the daughter of:

Margaret "Peggy" Kellerman born 5Apr1816 Bedford Co.,PA.; d. 12Jun1892 [She was the daughter of John Kellerman and Dorothea Kemberling Kellerman. John was the son of Revolutionary war hessian soldier Frederick Kellerman and Margaret Laird Kellerman.] Margaret Kellerman was sister of my ancestor Josiah Kellerman.

and Elias Croner b. 29Apr1808 Bedford Co., PA; d. 12Dec1882 Westphalia Kansas (burial Cherrymound Cemetery Anderson Co., MO) [Elias was the son of Dr. John (b. 5Jan1779 Bedford PA,d. 1848) and Sarah Croner. John was the son of John Groner missionary preacher (may have been born in Lancaster PA d. 1806 estate records are dated 17Dec1806) and Magdalene Speicher Groner. John and Magdalene married 3January 1774 Lancaster Co.PA, and they settled in Bedford, Somerset Co., PA in the 1770's)]

Margaret Kellerman and Elias Croner were married 19Mar1837, in Bedford Somerset Co., by Josiah Miller Justice of the Peace. They later immigrated to Anderson County

I would be interested in the readings you cite in Knox County. I have collected Croner and Ent information for years even though they are only related lines.

So we are cousins, through the Kellermans and the Ents and I can share more details.

Linda
Hello to everyone in the Ent World. I think I am going to reply to every Ent Board I can find until maybe I find someone who can help me. My grandmother was Anna Myrtle Maag and she was the daughter of Margaret Esther Ent and Robert Maag. I have from somewhere the info that Margaret Ent was the daughter of Peter Ent and Sarah A (possibly Croner?). We have a family story that tells us that there was a Peter Ent we crossed the Delaware with Washington. I have not been able to link up my Peter with any of the others. I know that the Ents I am related to come from and are somehow hooked up to the Ents I keep reading about in Knox County Ohio. Any help would be appreciated. Sharon

Corrections:
Mary Elizabeth Mackey as born in in Nilson Conty [County] KENTUCKY April the 6th 1834. [I believe this is probably Nelson County]

Julia Ann Mackey was born in NELSON County Kentucky on MARCH the 15th 1832 [In looking again I am sure it is Nelson, not Setson]

Davis Ent died 26 February 1897 [75 years].

New:
Davis Ent and Mary E. Mackey married on the 13th of May 1852 (in Anderson County, MO). Davis Ent was a "rebel" during the Civil War, though some of his siblings and nephews fought for the North. Before he died they lived at Hackberry, MO near Amazonia and Savannah).

lfmgen1@sbcglobal.net

FYI

I am researching Davis Ent's ancestors. I have photocopies of pages from an Ent family bible. It cites:

Births
Mary Elizabeth Mackey as born in in Nilson Conty [County] April the 6th 1834.

I also copied a separate "Memoranda" page that had the following:

James Abraham Mackey was born in Nelson County Kentucky December the 28th 1829

Julia Ann Mackey was born in Setson [can't read first letter so "S" is a guess] County Kentucky Marth the 15th 1832. Died March the 16th, 1863

Job Thomas Mackey was born May the 6th 1805 Dyed August the 12th 1835

Ann McDaniel [looks like Ann or Anne] was born 1806 Dyed September the 12th 1834

Lishnder J. Mackey [that is what the first name looks like
but it is very faint] born July the 23rd 1827 Died February 15th 1836

Davis Ent was born in Green County PA Dec. 18, 1821, and died. My ancestor is Margaret Ent Goodrich (born in PA 1811), his older sister.

If you will contact me privately, I will send you the name of the person whose pedigree chart (descendent of Davis Ent) of the person associated with the Bible records. You could then attempt to find her. I believe the records I have may have come from the Andrew County (MO) Historical Society when I researched there.

I am the great grandson of Isaac W. Graham, who married Delilah J. Ent (daughter of John Ent and Susanna Baxter) on April 5, 1860. Delilah was born in Ohio on May 27, 1840. I know she had a sister named Mary and a brother named John Jr. There were several other siblings, too, but I can't recall their names right now. I don't know how or when John Sr. died, but it had to be around 1845 because I think the youngest of the Ent children was born in 1846. I hope this helps someone out there who is having as much trouble as I am. Genealogy is HARD!

Do you have verification by documentation, too???!!!!

I had some Endt family information from a trip to The Hague, in the Netherlands ... many Endts from the Edam area back in the early 1700s... also from a nearby town which currently slips my mind..... There were still some Endts there in the 1980s.

We know we're related but there is some confusion about the direct lines and missing documentation for verification... any clue as to how the Indiana and PA Ents kept in touch into the 1900s??? (I don't mean the obvious- by letter.. but, who was Bertha in touch with, any pictures, any stories to lend a clue as to the direct lines?

My great grandfather Walter George Ent married Ina Mae Page in Iowa although he was originally from Ripley County, Indiana. He was a railroad man... I can't figure out who his father was although Ent is an unusual surname there happened to be several guys with the same name born about the same time, all related. They moved from Fredericksburg, MD to Ohio in the mid-1800s.

One of their children was my GG Grandmother Sophia Julia Ent Green, who died in Morrisville, OH in 1932.
Norman C Ent of Milan Indiana in Ripley Co killed in South Pacific

Norman C. Ent of Milan, Indiana in Ripley County was killed February 11, 1945, in the South Pacific during World War II.

He is officially listed as missing or buried at sea. His name appears on the “Tablets of the Missing” at the Manila American Cemetery in the Philippines. We are seeking information regarding his military and civilian life.

I am a retired Hoosier from Madison County residing in the Philippines with my Filipino wife. We are seeking family and military information about servicemen from your county killed in the South Pacific during World War II. There are 17,206 Americans buried here and thousands more that are missing or buried at sea and are honored on the “Tablets of the Missing”. Please visit our website to see the beautiful memorial located in Manila, Philippines.

http://fizkid.tripod.com/

My wife and I visited the cemetery as visitors and left with a mission in our heart. We have been taking photographs of the graves of the Indiana servicemen buried here and have been uniting them (at no charge) with their family members in Indiana and across the United States. To receive the photo of your family member, neighbor or friend all you need is a working email address. We do not send them to regular mailing addresses due to the costs. Please help us find the families of the men that might still be living. Our project is only successful because of teamwork and your contributions are noted on our website. If you wish to help us we will be pleased to add your name to our ACKNOWLEDGMENT page on the website. The obituaries usually did not appear till to three months after the death date.

If you are not a genealogist you can help by just picking up the telephone directory and find someone with the same last name and give them a call. It has worked many times for us.

Zenas5@yahoo.com

Sincerely,

Dave and Apple Dwiggins
San Pablo City, Philippines

After finding a marrige index showing that Mary Elizabeth Mackey married Davis Ent 13 May 1852 in Andrew Co., MO, I looked at 1860-70-80 Andrew Co. MO census of this family. The 1870 census shows Davis Ent and the 1880 census is David Ent.
1880 MO Census, Andrew Co., Lincoln Twp, pg 300b.
Ent, David 59 PA PA VA Farmer (should be Davis)
Mary wife 46 KY VA KY
James son 27 single MO PA KY
Mackey, Elvera? cousin 19 single MO KY KY.
My interest is in the Mackey line, wondering if anyone has information on Mary Elizabeth Mackey and the cousin Elvera/Elvira Mackey.
Samuel ENT and Louisa C. Rhodes

Samuel Ent and Louisa Rhodes are my ancestors through their daughter Agnes Ent Brown. I am eager to learn all I can about this branch of my family tree. I have found a few census enumerations, usually with the surname misspelled or indexed incorrectly or both. I saw the post by Wendie Ent from 2001 pertaining to Samuel and Louisa but would love to know more.

gathering to place veteran marker on Charles Ent's grave

Charles Ent was a Major in the War of 1812. When I was visiting his grave, I noticed there was no veteran marker. I have one and plan to place it on his grave Nov. 11, 2003 (Veteran's Day). He is buried at the New London Cemetery in Shandon, Butler Co., OH. Anyone interested, is welcome to meet me there at 10 am. It would be nice to have a group of descendants there. Charles Ent was my 5th great grandfather.

Ent relations

Hello there Donna! We are very related I am Bob's youngest daughter from Barb A. Ellington Ent. Bob is the eldest son of Harley, whom died when I was 3 years old. I barely remember him. My father bought a farm outside of Dillsboro before I was born and my middle sister Cheryl Ent Grote Dalton has lived there since her first marriage. Over twenty some odd years! That is how I have ended up here also ! Must be in the blood! My husband and I have been here for 16 years; moved here after we where married only 2 months. I started this crusade because I have a son whom is very into history and I don't know much about the Ent side also. I did notice that you don't mention William as one of the bothers. He epiletic and misdiagnosed, and was sent to a HOSPITAL. He was my father's favorite uncle and I remember many stories. and I remember feeling very tragic when the the stories were told. A very gentle soul whom loved the simple things in life. I will speak with my father to find out more.....Please check back
or e-mail at jkisor@seidata.com
Sincerely,
Jeni Kisor
