OBITUARY: The Morning Press, Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania, Monday, April 21, 1980
Myers B. Enterline, 79, 126 Broadway St., Turbotville, died at 8:40 a.m. Sunday in Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, where he had been a patient for six weeks.
Born in Danville, Dec. 8, 1900, he was a son of the late William G. and Alta V. Bitler Enterline.
A graduate of Turbotville High school in the class of 1920, he received his permanent teaching certificate from the former Bloomsburg Normal School in 1924. Having taught in Turbotville, he went to Milton in 1926 to become principal of Grant School, Lower Market St., for 29 years. He then transferred to New Columbia where he served at principal until retirement in 1965. The next five years he served as a substitute teacher in the Warrior Run School District, having had 50 years teaching experience.
He was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Turbotville, Turbotville Recreation Club, and Milton Elks Lodge 913, serving as Exalted Ruler for two years. In 1939, he was appointed district deputy to the grand exalted ruler of the North Central District of Pennsylvania. In 1941, he was awarded the first honorary life membership in the Milton Lodge. He was also a member of the national, state and Northumberland Retired Teachers’ associations.
Having an interest in community affairs, he served two years as president of Turbotville Volunteer Fire Co. and was borough councilman for eight years. He was also a former member of the Turbotville Cemetery Board.
Surviving are his wife, the former Grace A. Martin, to whom he was married 48 years Aug. 9, 1979; a daughter, Mary Ensinger, Muncy R.D.5; a sister, Mary Miller, Bloomsburg; two brothers: Ralph D., Turbotville R.D.1; Elmer E., McEwensville; three grandsons; and one great granddaughter.
Services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. from the William F. Brooks Funeral Home, Turbotville, with the Rev. Deane S. Shively officiating. Burial will be in Turbotville Cemetery.
