Looking for information about Glen(n) F. Entler,* who died at the age of 19 years in Tulsa, OK, on October 9, 1937, of Elixir Sulfanilamide poisoning. He died while visiting his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur D. Blackard in Tulsa; although Glen lived in Tuscola, IL. His father was Alfred "Fred" B. Entler of Tuscola, IL; he also had a brother, Earl (possibly John Earl) Entler. Any leads regarding living family members/indirect descendants are appreciated.

* Or possibly Frederick G(len), per 1920 census.

Yes, I am familiar with Otelia Endler. Catherine Entler b. circa 1801 was the daughter of William Entler of Romney, Hampshire County, (West) Virginia married Henry Cookus b. circ. 1801 probably in Shepherdstown. Henry and Catherine had 4 children.

I am looking for an Edler/Entler connection to the Cookus family. According to Otelia Endler b. 1867 d. 1935, such a connection existed. She lived in Romney, WV. Both the Cookus family and Entler/Endler families were from Shepherdstown, WV. Otilia Endler was the daughter of David and Elizabeth Kitzmiller Endler. Does any of this look familiar?

Laura May Entler Bentley Cook was my g.g.grandmother though her son Raymond Beecher Bentley. I have a copy of her death certificate, if anyone would like a scanned copy emailed to them. I can only go back as far as Martin Luther Entler & Elizabeth Beecher Herr (m. 3-June 1859). I have some wonderful records of Entlers who emigrated to the MD-WV area from Germany in the 1700s, but I can't make the connection. Any information would be appreciated. I am in Southern California

Bonnie,

I have some information on George & Lucy Beltzhoover. What information are you interested in? Lucy Entler beltzhoover is the granddaughter of Daniel Entler, the proprietor of the Entler Hotel in Shepherdstown. She is the daughter of Jacob Philip Adam (JPA) Entler and Ellen McElroy. I have a photo of JPA Entler and I believe a photo of Ellen McElroy (however, it's more likely a photo of JPA's second wife.)

I believe the George Beltzhoover family at some point owned (or had access to) a painting of Lucy Entler's Great-Grandmother Catherine Heiser Weltzheimer. I obtained a photo of this painting from another descendent of JPA Entler. The inscription on the back of the photo read: Inscription on back: "portrait in dining room- other side written by my father- Geo. M. Beltzhoover- --- Kathryn B. Hess, Jan. 5, 1939"

How are you related to this line? I am collecting as much information as I can on all ENTLER lines (especially the Shepherdstown Entlers) as am I trying to connect all the dots on the various lines.

--Karen

I'm glad you have the death certificate that definitively ties Martin Luther ENTLER to Shepherdstown. There is a branch of the ENTLERs in Maryland (perhaps that's one of the reasons we've previously corresponded) that may or may not be tied to the Shepherdstown ENTLERs. There's also a Martin ENTLER from New York who is likely a more-recent immigrant and not tied to the Shepherdstown ENTLERs.

There is another branch of ENTLERs in Chico Co. CA that I've been trying to tie to the Shepherdstown ENTLERs. One of those is named Samuel Luther (Lute) ENTLER--but he was born in 1854 and is supposed to be one of 2 brothers who moved to CA also from Shepherdstown.

I still don't have much more on your ENTLERs unfortunately. My gut tells me that the 1860 census record is your ENTLERs. I could see someone named Laura Mae being nicknamed Lillie, and the dates line up correctly as well. I'm keeping track of all the various "clues" on the various ENTLER lines. Ocassionally I get just one more piece of a puzzle and I can connect the dots. I'm not there yet with your Martin Luther.

Sometimes I wish I lived closer to the east coast (I live in Oregon)--I would like to spend several days in Shepherdstown just tracing down and documenting once and for all, all these various ENTLERs. I have a "migration" map I've been building for all the various ENTLERs, but it's rather complex and still very incomplete.

I plan on starting an ENTLER web page where I can post and track all the various ENTLER lines, just haven't gotten there yet as I was working fulltime and going to school fulltime. Perhaps now is the time.

Mother was Elizabeth Beecher Herr born in Williamsport, Maryland.
My Great Grandmother Laura May Entler was born 1864 in Bridgeport, Maryland death July 23, 1933 in Lomita, Los Angeles County, California.
All this from death certificate.
I saw the 1860 census with a Lilli 4 months old, wasn't sure if correct people.
Laura married George W. I do have him on the 1860 census in Sharpsburg, MD listed as a Confectioner with wife Elizabeth (age 21) and daughter Lillie. I would be interested in learning what other details you have about Martin. How do you know he was born in Shepherdstown for example? I'm trying to map out all the Shepherdstown ENTLERs and would love more information on Martin. --Karen Cooke

I am interested in the ENTLERs of California. I am looking for the descendents of brothers Luther (Lute) and Joseph Frankliln ENTLER who immigrated to California around 1868.

I am not a descendent of the Chico, California ENTLERs, but am a descendent of the "root" ENTLERs from Shepherdstown, VA/WV. I'm interested in documenting as many of the descendents of Philip Adam ENTLER (b.1715/16) as possible.

I am very interested in tracing the parentage of the brothers Lute and Joseph Franklin who appear to be the "root" ENTLERs of the California line. In order to do so, I am gathering any information I can on any California ENTLERs.

Thanks, Karen Cooke

David Simmons,

I followed your thread of queries with Karen Cooke, back in August 2002. I suspect your Nancy is the daughter of Johannes ENTLER, as you suggested, son of John Jacob Entler, son of Philip Adam ENTLER. John Jacob Entler (and his family) was the only Entler left in York County, after 1790. Johannes was born, according to a York County Church record, 08 Nov 1788 and was baptized 23 Nov 1788. Not a perfect match to your birth date, but with this time and location, John Jacob the only possible ENTLER that could be your ENTLER lineage.

Bob Fetters

One of my ongoing tasks is to analyze all the census data for all ENTLERs. One of the things I really want to do is understand all the ENTLER branches and how (if they do) do they relate to the original PAE (Philip Adam Entler). There were a few other immigrations into America of other ENTLERS. Some in NY, and at least one in MD.

The info I just posted on your Virgil is based on analysis of the census records of the area where Virgil was born. Based on the other ENTLER names, birth dates, and living locations (some ENTLERs lived right next door to each other)--I deduced what the likely relationships were. There were some instances where the relationship were confirmed by earlier census records.

Please realize that the info I sent is a very likely ancestry. There is always a chance that it is not correct.

I'm currently in the process of seeing if I can "map" all the ENTLER families through the decades at their various locations and show their "migration" through the various states. And once and for all I want to list out the "other ENTLERs" those that aren't related to PAE.

--Karen

OH which isn't too far from Cincinnati. What other research have you done to try and find his parents? Have you looked at any of the Ohio newspapers for his obituary from 1953? Sometimes they mention parents--or other surviving siblings--that might offer clues. If you ever do find the answer--please post it here--I would really like to know the answer to Virgil's parentage. --Karen
