Re: hiram entsminger b. golden colorado 1879

My database shows Hiram's parents are Morris Ensminger, b ca. 1853 &amp; Sarah Elizabeth Seaton, b ca. 1856. I found a Morris Ensminger, age 27, b PA, on the U.S. Census in Golden, CO in 1880. Morris's wife on the 1880 census is shown by initials - S S or L L. The census transcribes her name as L L but the letters look like "S" to me - probably signifying the name Sarah Seaton. She is listed as age 23, b. IL, parents b. KY. I found a record of a marriage of Morris Ensminger and Sarah Elizabeth Seaton, in Arapahoe County, CO on Apr 4, 1880. This info was transcribed, so the year of marriage may be wrong. The census lists one child, Hiram, age 2, b. IL.<br><br>Morris' father John was b in IL to Jonathan Ensminger, b 1814, VA, and Jane Unknown, b 1824, PA. Morris' family is on U.S. censuses in Camp Point, Adams Co., IL in 1860 &amp; 1870. I haven't found any of the family after the 1880 census. They may be listed under other names.<br><br>A Sarah E Seaton is listed with her family is on the U. S. censuses in 1860 &amp; 1870 in Clayton, Adams Co., IL. She is shown b IL &amp; parents were b KY, matching the 1880 census. Clayton is 6 miles east of Camp Point, so the odds are pretty good this is the right Sarah E Seaton.

Yes, the t was used by John Henry Entsminger abt. 1725-1806 in Virginia and some of his sons continued to use this spelling of Ensminger. At times Entzminger or Insminger was used. This was the clue I needed to find the derivation of the name, a village in Lorraine, now Moselle, France.Until 1648 it was part of the WestReich of the German Empire.

Spelling of names

The decendents with this name all came from Alsace in France the name is spelled many different ways - Ensminger, ensmings, Ensmingen, Einssminger, Einsminger, Entzminger, Ansminger, Hansminger, Eslminger, Elsminger and even Minger! The name of the town was Insming and according to Raymond M Bell who researched this family for 50 years, this is the only place in the world where the name came from. Happy hunting, Hazel Ensminger Lang

The spelling of Ensminger was more common in Alsace but John Henry Entsminger who m. Mary Barbara Grandstaff in PA and moved to what became Botetourt Co. VA added a "t"<br>so that it would be pronounced right. Most that spell the name with the t are connected to John Henry. I would be happy to check for any spelled with the t in my data base.
My g-g-g-g-grandfather was John Entsminger, brother of Joseph Ludwig Entsminger. John married Jane Rees in Botetourt County, VA in 1787 and died in Meigs County, Ohio in 1830. According to information I have seen, John and Joseph were sons of Henry Entsminger and Barbara Grandstaff or Crautzdorf , and that Henry died in Gallia County, Ohio in 1806. That would have made him 103 years old. Do you have any information that would either confirm or refute this information?
