Regarding the "Charles Engard" being listed in the patents of 1646 in York County, Virginia....in "Cavaliers and Pioneers" has anyone actually read further to see if Charles actually arrived??
Had another ancestor, who was signed up to be indentured in Virginia (also listed in the same volumes) but a few patents later, his name turned up has having let his patent go to someone else ("deserted")...as they didn't arrive on time to collect it.
This may have happened to Carol as well, he might have signed up for Virginia, but due to circumstances (not enough money, or couldn't bring his young family at the time) and his patent may later have gone deserted.
Just because a name is in "Cavaliers and Pioneers" doesn't mean they were here.
