Re: Erasmus/Rasmus birthplace PA

As a starting point for your research, 70- year-old William Erasmus, was the husband of Catherine Linn. In 1870 they are residing in Columbia County, Ohio. Evidently the wife of their son William T. Erasmus was dead (no wife listed) his daughter Emma is listed as age 13. The father of Catherine (Linn) Erasmus (Dr. George Felix Lynn/Linn) mentioned them in his Hemlock/Bloom Township, Columbia County, Ohio will which was dated 1829 and proved 1836. . Catherine Linn born about 1809 and was the daughter of his second marriage. Catherine and William Erasmus were living in 1838 in Columbia County, Pennsylvania. (Reference Northampton County, Pennsylvania Miscellaneous Record Book 5 Page 103 Easton, Pennsylvania.) The Lynn family came originally from Germany and were in Montgomery, Northampton, Berks and Columbia Counties in Pennsylvania. Check the RootsWeb Family Tree which traces William Erasmus to his father and mother listed as Maria Veronica Rentsheimer etc. to Longswamp, Berks County, Pennsylvania. However, it only gives his wife as Catherine. Hope this helps.

I don't Know if you are still interested?

My Grandfather was Jack(John) Erasmus.
The family tradition was that they came to Crumlin from Bloxwich Staffordshire.

I am not sure of is date of birth but he was in the army in the last year of the 1914-18 war so he would have been close to your Jim in age.
He lived in William Street (No 10) Crumlin. Mon. and was married to Blodwyn Doris May (Doll)
He had a brother Bill and I think a brother Jim.
Bill had one daughter, I think her name Alma I don't know what happened to her.

Jack had three sons.
William (Bill) approx 1920 - 3 children - Avril 1945 John 1948? Susan 1953
Owen Glyndwr (Dwdw) 1922 - 2 Children - Owen Glyndwr (Glyn) 1945 Gaynor Elizabeth 1953
And Edward Godfrey (Goff) Date not known 2 Children Pamela Mary May (Pam) and Sain (Pronounced Sharn)

There was definitely an old man who I knew as Uncle Jim as a small child along with Auntie Annie and Auntie Ag. (Agetha?)
I am afraid I don't know about Uncle Jim's children Though I was approached recently by a lady who asked me if I was related to the Erasmus' of Treowen (A group of streets between Crumlin and Newbridge)
My Wife Carol now teaches in the School that we all attended (Crumlin High Level Primary School)

If you are still searching please contact me

Glyn Erasmus

Erasmus - Jim

My grandfather, Jim Erasmus was born in Herefordshire in approx. 1896 but lived most of his life in Crumlin, Newbridge area of Monmouthshire, South Wales.
As this name appears to be of Netherland or even South African extraction, can anyone tell me how my grandfather ended up in Wales. p.s. Nobody in the family has
any idea of any roots apart from Welsh, there are no family stories, so the Welsh part must go back a long way. Please help. This is a real mystery. Please e-mail me at
Horsetroff@netscapeonline.co.uk

Jim Erasmus

Hi Maggie,

Jim Erasmus (definitely registered as Jim not James) was born in Hednesford, Herefordshire, England on 29 October 1896
and married Gwendoline Louise Robins on 26 December 1924 at Newbridge, Monmouthshire, Wales.

His father was William or Jack Erasmus born Monmouthshire, Wales in approximately 1854.
He married Mary Hockey or Hawkey before 1889.

Jim's siblings were Joseph, Mary, Jack, Hannah, Elizabeth, Lilian, Margaret and Samuel, all born either
Monmouthshire, Wales or Hednesford, Herefordshire, England.

I guess we must have a South African or Dutch connection somewhere but it hasn't come to
light yet.

Sue

My gg grandfather Josephus Erasmus was born approximately 1826 (don't know where yet). He married Mary Edwards in Pontypool, Monmouthshire, South Wales in 1852 and died 1877, in Monmouthshire aged 51. He was a coal miner.

Josephus and Mary had many children, Elizabeth 1852, William (my ggrandfather) 1855, Margaret 1857, Hannah (possibly), Mary 1862, Ann 1863, Martha 1865, Josephus Thomas 1871, Janet 1872, John 1874 all born Pontypool registration district (probably Trevethin).

Anyone claim any of these?!

Erasmus/Rasmus birthplace PA

I am searching for the names of my great-grandmother' birthparents. Elizabeth "Lizzie" Erasmus, was born November 5, 1875 in PA. As an infant or very young child, her caregivers were foster parents by the last name Francis. I believe her foster mother's name was Rosetta Francis, also born in PA abt 1837. The Francis family moved to Logan County, Booneville, Arkansas by the late 1800's. There are two names on the PA 1870 census that I would like more information about. I only have access to index books and not the film. Emma C. Erasmus, age 13, Columbia County, E-Wd Bloomsburg, Roll 1329, page 43. I believe this could be her mother. The other name is William Erasmus, age 70, Columbia County, E-Wd Bloomsburg, Roll 1329, page 40. Does it reveal how Emma and William are related?
erasmus

I am looking for the parents of Pieter Erasmus who was married to Maria Elizabeth Jooste(n). No record of entry into South Africa or marraige can be found for both of them. First mention in any record in South African Archives is in 1697. No entry in ships records. It seems that Pieter and Maria was married in ?Netherland?. An interesting fact that I came about is that Pieter and Maria was members of the French church in Wellington South Africa. All their children where baptised in that church. They lived between French Hugenots but where not the only Hollanders(Netherlanders)among the French. The other Hollanders attended the Netherland church in Paarl. Some of the Netherland friends attended the babtism of their children in the French church. Is it possible that they where from a part in Netherland that spoke French? Your site quote the Erasmus families as from Cadzand, Groede and Nieuwvliet in Netherland. According to records the Jooste(n) family (his spous) originates from Germany. Most interesting.
