"Mrs. Erday, 82, died Thursday, August 25, 2005 at her home at Southminster Retirement Community after a brief illness. Born January 4, 1923 in Goslar, Germany, Margaret was the daughter of the late Hans and Frieda Bloomenburg Schmidt and came to the United States at the age of two. She was a member of Providence United Methodist Church, Christian Home Sunday School Class, and Circle No. 7.
Margaret is remembered for her love of music, a gift she shared freely with family, friends, and neighbors. She sang in church and community choirs and played the piano and organ for the residents and health care units at Southminister. She loved to create with her hands, doing cross stitch, crafts, knitting and jewelry making, and she had an incredible love of language and words.
She loved and was loved by her family and is survived by her son, Timothy M. Erday and wife Barbara of Warren, NJ; and two daughters, Cathleen E. Smith and husband Mike of Charlotte and Dr. Linda E. Erday and husband Randy Johnson of Greensboro.
Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Jennifer E. True and husband Matt, Timothy J. Erday and wife Jennifer, Cathleen M. Erday; Michael Joseph Smith and wife Kathleen, Daniel B. Smith and wife Kim; Emily Johnson-Erday and Corey Johnson-Erday; seven great-grandchildren, Timothy and James Erday; Katherine, Michael, Jr., and Lillian Smith; and Abby and Tegen Smith, as well as her brother-in-law, John Tegen Erday of Thousand Oaks, CA.
Her husband of 58 years, Joseph Sewall Erday, preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 28 at Providence united Methodist Church with the Reverend Dr. Ken Carter and the Reverend Dr. William Jefferies officiating. Mrs. Erday's family will receive friends from 6:00-7:30 p.m. Saturday at Hankins & Whittington Dilworth Chapel.
