I've been looking for a neighbor and I'm thinking you might know something about him. He, wife, and son Robert were living in Edison, NJ until his death (I believer 1960 or maybe a couple of years later). His wife's name was Marian. I'm not sure what his real first name was, but we all called him Fritz. I believe he was German and have seen a 1930 census that could be him, but I'm not sure. The census was from Matawan Boro, Monmouth Co., NJ. Any information you can give will be appreciated. Even if you could point me in some direction! Thanks

She doesn't remember the name of the church and so I can't look it up for you. She is 92 now and her memory is not the best. Hope it will help you to know that they were Lutherans for the most part.

Tina,
Are you aware of any family members named Miller who might have been related to the Erdmann family you refer to? In my data, I have a Maria Erdmann who married to Friedrich Gottlieb Miller in Hoff, Kreis Greifenberg, Pommern. This was in 1851. The marriage record indicates she was the daughter of Hans Erdmann from Triebs, Kr. Greifenberg. The reason I ask is that many of my family members (before 1885), first immigrated to the area around Watertown and Waterloo, and these families all tended to settle around relatives. I do know that Friedrich Miller and Maria Erdmann had at least two daughters, Johanne Juliane Therese Miller (b. 27 Dec 1853) and Wilhelmine Caroline Auguste Miller (b. 7 Mar 1857), both born in Hoff. Friedrich Miller was my gr-gr grandmother's oldest brother. I don't know that they ever immigrated.

Andreas Erdmann is my direct ancestor and had about 4 brothers all born in Prussia before they left. My family came to America around 1842 from Strozewo, Poznan, Prussia. I found their Christening records in Prussia church records. I am not sure where they came in to America, but they lived in Beaver Dam, WI before the Civil War. My ancestor participated in the Civil War per his wife's recollection, but I can't find his record. Later they moved to Steele and Waseca Counties in Minnesota. Most of the information I have is from a Steele County history book that was written shortly after Andreas died. Many of the families are still living in MN.
Thanks,
Cheryl Erdman Scott

Gertrude, I may not live in Dodge Co., but my some of my roots are certainly there. My ancestors (3ggps), Gottlieb Erdmann and his wife, Johanna Koepsell, immigrated from Kniephof, Naugard, Stettin, Pommern, Prussia to Town Herman, just east of Iron Ridge, WI in the 1850's. I descend from their daughter, Henrietta who married Gottlieb Henni(n)g.
Your August could be a nephew to Henrietta, but I've never checked it out. I have some early land plat maps of the area and know there were other Erdmanns in Town Herman. August may have been one of them. So, let me know if any of this sounds familiar.....chrismiasnik@juno.com
i know my grandfather richard e erdmann, came to us in late 1800's. he was the son of adolph erdmann. some of the family was educated at heidelburg and had scar also-they were chemists. one of the erdmanns who i am direct descendant of is author of chemistry book in german from 1800's-my grandparents married in ny-i think brooklyn-in early 1900s-richard married lillian zander whose parents had emigrated to us while her mother was pregnant with her. i also had a cousin larry(lawrence)who worked with my grandfather in lyndhurst chemical company and was living in dunellon and then toms river. he had daughter belinda who was in music field. larry was the son of richards brother but i dont recall his name.he was tall-so were some of the other erdmanns-6 ft or over. any info or directions i can look would be very appreciated. lindabch@aol.com

I don't have dates on the marriage, Anna Louise Engelmann was born 4 Aug 1896 and died 27 Mar 1974. Other than she married Fred Erdmann, no further info found yet. Her mother died in 1897 and I'm searching on where the children went, I believe they may have lived with an older brother but haven't proved it yet. Not sure on where her father Alvin went either.

Re: child of henry (gustav) erdman or erdmann

I don't know if this is in any way connected but seems rather close. My husband's grandmother was named Dora Erdman (Welsh) and lived in Haver Montana though she came from North Dakota. Her mother's name was Mary Erdman and eventually went to Wisconsin. She originally came from Germany ca. 1887. Dora had a sister Martha, brother Clarence and Harry. I think the her father's name was Leo or leopold and there are more kids that came with them from Germany.
Perhaps there is a connection of some sort.

Erdmann Family from Ottendorf, Naugard in Pommerania, Germany

Hi, I'm looking for my great grandfather's family: His parents were Karl Wilhelm Erdmann and Anne Marie Zander. His siblings were Fritz Albert Bernhardt, Frans Albert Bernhardt, Karl Albert Bernhardt, Bertha Charlotte and Augusta Helena. My Greatgrandfather was Wilhelm Albert Bernhardt and left Germany on a boat called Luczia in 1904 from Germany as a soldier for South West Africa (now Namibia). His sister Bertha Charlotte was married to Max Pheiffer and his other sister, Augusta Helena had 3 or more children. The 3 names I know for sure are Gertrud, Liselotte and Kurt. I don't have any more info and want to know what happened to the rest of the family.

William Erdmann Sr., Elizabeth, & William, Jr. in Milwaukee WI area

I am seeking info about my mother's cousin, William Erdmann Jr. [He may not have used the "Jr."] I believe he was born about 1930 plus or minus perhaps 6 yrs. At some point in the 40s-70s [time uncertain], he is believed to have owned or managed a restaurant or tavern in the Meeker Hill area of Washington? County WI, called the Copper Kettle, according to my father's recollection. William Erdmann, Jr. was the son of William Erdmann & Elizabeth "Lizzie" (nee Suwyn/Swain/Suwijn) Erdmann. Mr.Erdmann Sr. was a Milwaukee stonecutter or stonemason who did much of the stonework at Wisconsin Memorial Park, Brookfield WI. Elizabeth nee Suwyn Erdmann was a sister of my grandfather. His two sisters, Alice & Evelyn, married two Gohlke brothers, Edwin & Emil. I want to invite Bill Erdmann, Jr., & any family to a Suwyn family reunion. I would also be interested to know the location &/or present situation of the Copper Kettle, even if you do not have info about Mr. Erdmann. Thanks for any help.

Auguste Caroline Erdmann b. 3 dec 1831 in Germany, d. 11 dec 1870 in Warrick Co. Indiana, buried in Susotts Cem. She was the gg-grandmother of my husband. She married Friedrich Kolle 15 feb 1852 in Warrick Co Indiana. He was b 3 dec 1826 in Germany and d 6 Jan 1897 in Warrick Co Indiana.
But you asked about Hanna Sophie Justine Heipke Erdmann. I got this from the German Evangelical United Immanuel Church Birth and Baptism Register, page 1, number 5, :
ERDMANN, August Heinrich Christian born 30 jul 1848 Bap. 10 Aug 1848 Parents: Christian Friedrich and Hanna Sophie Justine (Heipke) Godparents: Heinrich Buelm and Wilhelmine Bethe. Also from the parish records, ( I wrote this down instead of printing it off)
Christian Friedrich Erdmann: from Altgandersheim, County of Gandersheim in Braunschweig b. 4 July 1794 died of congestive fever the 11th Oct 1855 buried 18 Oct 1855.
August Heinrich Christian Erdmann b 30 july 1848 died 5 may 1851.Hanna was born 1 feb 1806 at Amnensen (I think that is how it is spelled) County of Groene in Braunschweig died 11 aug 1864 buried 13 aug 1864.
I hope this helps. I don't have any more on the Erdmanns. I was really after Kolle info. I got this info from the state library in Indianaoplis. I would like to hear from you.
