Hi,
I am looking for any information on the Ergle family in the Atlanta Georgia area. My children are Ergles. Their Grandfather was James Carl Ergle jr. who died in 1974 in Rantoul Illinois while on leave from the Vietnam war. He was married to (Florence) Patricia Martineau who was Canadian. He is buried in a cemetary in Atlanta Georgia. His father was James Carl Sr. who I believe was married to a woman named Tommie Davenport.

There are many branches of EARGLE AND ERGLE
I am working on my dad's family history ERGLE
And have traced it back to them landing in SC.
I know of the cabin in Aiken SC and the castle.

I am married to William DAvid Ergle.PHD, son of David Loflin
Ergle and Evelyn G. Chambers Ergle, both died in Spartanburg, S.C. where they spent their married life.
David L. is son of David Solomon Ergle and Ida Mae Sharp of
Edgefield, S.C.
They had about 7 children, tho' we think he was married twice. We cvannnot find mariage or death recoeds for the women.
David Solommon was the son of John Eargle and Margaret ?,
and had it appears about 7-8 siblings.

Joy, I have much of the info you seek. Jonathan, or John, is a ggrandson of the immigrant, John Michael Ergil (Ergle)who came to Charlestown in 1752. Send me your emal address and I will fill in some of the blanks. Thirty years ago I had hopes of publishing the family history but am still at it.

According to family, MY great-grandmother also was part Cherokee but I've not been able to confirm it. Her name was Ida Lee Fuller Eargle, married to Dr. James T. Eargle. Supposedly she was originally from Broken Bow, Oklahoma. I am relatively certain she was NOT your great-grandmother since my siblings and I, and two first cousins, were her only great-grandchildren, none of her other children having had children. Im barrett ergle from aiken sc. i had a great grandmother that was 1/2 - 3/7 cherokee indian. im not sure of her name right now but i can find out. I do know that cherokee indian is in the blood line.

New Ergle Web Site

I have put a new Ergle web site online for the descendents of Tillman Ergle and his wife Lucy. They are descendents of John Michael Ergle through his son John Michael, Jr.

I have also put up pictures and names found in the Graniteville, SC cemetery. At least, those I could find and read. There are many wooden markers that are so rotten and in such bad shape they cannot be read. If you know Ergle/Eargles buried there, please let me know. The pictures can take some time to load, but are worth the wait.

Ergle in Island Grove, Alachua County Florida before/after 1949

Mrs. John I. Ergle was 88 when she appeared in the picture with her family in the Florida Times-Union in 1949. She is pictured with her daughter, Mrs. Ella Perry of Gainesville, age 66 and her granddaughter, Mrs. Magie/Margie Perry DeSHA also known by the name Clydie age 39.

Magie/Margie/Clydie married then divorced Krama F. DeSha, Sr. in Alachua County. She remarried but husband's name is unknown. For a while following their marriage, Krama and Clyde lived in the Waldo, Alachua County FL.

I am particularly interested in the Perry family in Alachua County and their connection, if any, to the James Perry family who lived in the Murray Hill section of Jacksonville, Florida in the 1950's-1970's where I grew up.

Any info appreciated. Thank you.

Also looking for a susannah (Susan) Ergle. According to Census records she was born abt. 1809 in North Carolina although according to the 1870 Blount County, Alabama census the taker of the census has her born in South Carolina. Her and her husband Stephen Shelton may have moved west for gold purposes. They can not be found in the Federal Census after 1870 it seems that her and Stephen has Disappeared after that. No information is available for her birth, but rumor has it that she may be part Cherokee Indian.

1. Availability of John Eargle's book.
2. Info on family of John Isaiah Ergle's mother Elizabeth Cochran. Could she be related to Della Cochran who married a Cassels.
3. John Isaiah Ergle's sister Lorena who married Robert Henry Cassels.
4. Anything on the Cassels line.

My grandfather was a circuit Methodist Episcopal Minister in the Batesburg/Leesville area of SC (Rev. John David Rikard). In what is left of his Doctrine and Disciplines book, which is what he used to perform marriages, baptisms, etc., there is a notation on the Ergle family that I thought someone might be interested in. I quote: Baptise William Albin Eargle December 30th 1921 father L E Ergle Agnes " (The " marks are directly under the name Ergle after the L E and the names are spelled exactly as he spelled them - one with an A and one without)

I've just started researching the family tree. I wanted to find our roots before all of the older generations are gone. My grandmother was Dessa Ergle Milam, and I remember your great grandmother, Aunt Ida, from when I was a child. I remember Willie and Inez, too, and visiting them in their white house on Hwy. 5 before it all went commercial. I know that Mama Milam said her grandfather was full-blooded German. Your aunts and mother will remember my sisters and me, Dot, JoAnn, and Jane. I think there's even a picture of Evelyn and boyfriend back in the '50's in one of the family photo albums. I'd love to swap info with you. I attended many an Ergle family reunion when Mama Milam and her siblings were alive!

Your post is beter than 3 years ago, but I have quite a bit of info on Roseann if you are still intersted. I am a great grandson of John Isaiah Ergle, Roseann's brother, both children of William L. Ergle, son of Jonathan Eargle. I've been researching the Ergle/Eargle families for near 20 years, and have furnished extensive research info to John Eargle of Aiken, SC, who is near press time with his upcoming family history and genealogy book on the descendants of the original immigrant, John Michael Eargle. John (Eargle) Ergle left the Lexington District of South Carolina and came to Douglaville, Ga., but apparently he left the A in South Carolina. My father-in-law was James Owen,twin to John Sherman, father was William, grandfather was Lucious Edmond, son of John (from S.C.), then the line goes: Frederick, John Jacob, Micheal, and John Micheal(the immigrant). The records on the Ergle family suggests that John Micheal Eargle was living in Germany, near the Swiss border. He came to America in 1752. If you will check out http://www.dfchapter.homestead.com/Eargle.html

what country? we have heard of the ergle reuion there in

I am the gggrandson of Charles Atremus Eargle who married Annie Elizabeth Price. Mary Price who married John Eargle (ergle) was her sister I believe. They lived 5 miles apart in douglasville Georgia. Was John related to Charles Artemus both were from same area in South Carolina ? I have had the same story passed down abouth the name change except it was at church and I have found the church record where the church split and the people changed spelling .of name.
