Marianne Erickson, 80, of Mechanicsburg,
passed away on Sunday, February 17, 2013,
at Bethany Village Skilled Nursing Facility.
She was born at home October 18, 1932 in Wesleyville, Pa., daughter of the late Willard and Mary Douds. She grew up in Ridgeway, Pa., graduating from Ridgeway High School. Marianne graduated from Slippery Rock State Teachers College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education and received a Masters Degree in Education from Temple University. She also held a Montessori Certificate from Eastern Connecticut State College. She was a kindergarten and elementary school teacher beginning her teaching career as a U.S. 2 home missionary of the Methodist Church at Harwood Girls School in Albuquerque, N.M. and continued as an elementary teacher for the Millcreek Township School District in Erie County then at Mechanicsburg Area School District for 22 years. Special Service awards were given to her for development of an innovative curriculum for kindergarten pupils who are kept active through actual experiences. She was a member of the Mechanicsburg Junior Women's Club, and active in many leadership positions for Grace Methodist Church, Harrisburg. She and her husband were active members of the Harrisburg Bicycling Club. They also visited 42 countries. Marianne is survived by her husband of 56 years, Le Roy Erickson; daughters, Jeanette Erickson of Chamblee, Ga. and Elizabeth and husband Noel Burt; two grandchildren, Hannah Burt, a sophomore in College and Jacob Burt, a senior in High School, all of Greensboro, N.C. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, February 24, 2013, 3 p.m., at Bethany Village East Community Room, 325 Wesley Drive, Mechanicsburg, Pa.
