Re: Axel Julius Erickson

Not really enough information to be sure, but assuming that the Axel and Anna Erickson living in Jamestown Ward 4, Chautauqua, New York in 1900 with children Lillian, Rudolph, Julius and Ruth is the correct family then I have a possibility for you...

There was an Axel J Erikson, age 20, on the Gothenburg passenger lists, departing Sept 15 1887 who was from Kila, Värmland..
... and in looking at the parish registers for Kila there was an Axel Julius Eriksson who left the parish on Aug 27 to travel to N America.
Looking a bit further through the HH exams for Kila parish, you find that Axel Julius Eriksson (born Feb 7 1867 in Södra Ny) living in Kärrholmen, (in Kila parish) with his parents Erik Jan Olsson (b Nov 26 1839 in Kila), Maja Cajsa Jansdotter (b. June 23 1844 in Södra Ny) and siblings Johan Edvin (July 11 1865 in Södra Ny), Gustaf Adolf (June 30 1869), Elizabeth ( Sept 16 1871), Carl Oscar (Jan 2 1874), Anders Wilhelm (April 6 1876), Hilda Emilia (April 18 1878), and Vendela Maria (Feb 1 1880). Erik Jan Olsson and Maja Cajsa Jansdotter were married in Södra Ny on April 17 1865.

Another possibility for you re Anna Andersen - In the Danish emigration records there was a family consisting of Johan Andersen, 31, his wife Inger Andersen, 37, and children Ane, age 8, Anders, 4, and Ane Marie 11 months who registered to travel to Jamestown NY on Mar 30 1882. The record shows their last residence as Søften parish in Århus Amt. Found this in the 1880 Danish census for Søften:

Aarhus, Vester Lisbjerg, Søften, Søften Bye, , 4 Huus, 92, FT-1880
Name: Age: Marital status: Occupation in household: Occupation: Birth place:
Johan Andersen 29 Gift Hendes barn Husfader Arbeider paa For........ Mundelstrup Sverrig
Enge Kjerstine Christensen 35 Gift Husfader og landpostbud hans Hustru Tilst Sogn Aarhus Amt
Ane Kjerstine Andersen 6 Ugift Hans hustru deres Børn Brabran Sogn Aarhus Amt
Anders Peter Andersen 5 Ugift Deres barn deres Børn do [Brabran Sogn Aarhus Amt]
Ane Marie Andersen 1 Ugift Deres barn deres Børn her i Sognet [Søften Sogn]

Looking in the parish records again I found that Ane Kirstine Andersen was actually born in Tilst parish on May 29 1873 (the date might be May 24 - it's difficult to read)
Her parents were married in Tilst Kirke on March 23 1873 and fortunately the marriage record include both of their birth dates. Johan Edvard Andersen was born on Dec 21 1850 in Ljunga parish, Kronoberg, Sweden. (actually it was Södra Ljunga) and Inger Kirstine Kristensen Overgaard was the daughter of Christian Sorensen Overgaard and was born 2 Oct 1844 in Tilst parish.

Back to the Swedes again- Johan Edvard Andersen born Södra Ljunga Dec 21 1850 was the son of Anders Peter Erlandsson and Stina Bengtsdotter.

Hope this helps,

J Murphy
Hi You are the mother of Annie and Todd? I don't know them, but am currently trying to contact them. My dad, Robert (Bobbie) Erickson was Tippy's brother. He is now 80 years old, and the last living sibling of James Ronald Tip Siler, who died in 2000. Feel free to contact me, as I am interested in receiving photos of Tippy for my dad. He has not seen him since high school and would like to see a photo of him as an adult. I can provide photos of Tippy's four brothers and one sister. Kathy Erickson Fortier

Erickson Norway to Polk County, Minnesota

Erick Erickson immigrated from Norway to North Dakota then on to Minnesota. He met and married Josephine Myhre and raised their children Burdelle, Eloise, James, Norinda, Alton and Ramona in Polk County. Erick's mother Anna Johansen (I believe Johansen is from her second husband) also lived with them in the 1930 census. If anyone has any common connections, I would love to compare notes!

Witnesseth that the said parties of the first part in consideration of the sum of Sixty Dollars, to them in hand paid by the said party of the second part, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged .....

I am not related to this family...

Longmont Ledger (Longmont, Boulder County)
Mar 3, 1905
ERICKSON--Near Longmont, Saturday, Feb 25, 1905, the result of an accident, E. B. Erickson, aged 62 years.
Mr. Erickson was returning home Saturday with a load of chop and was on the old Burlington road southwest of Longmont. It must have been just before he reached the railroad that the horses got the best of him and commenced to run and it is supposed that when the wagon struck the tack it threw him out, the wheels passing over his head, fracturing the skull for forehead to chin and scraping the flesh off one side of the face, for he was dragged several hundred feet. Dr. Janet Clark found him in a a conscious state and he requested to be take to Dr. Stradley for treatment. He was brought to Dr. Andrews hospital and a bone taken from his head, but he died before six o'clock p.m.
Mr. Erickson was a well to do farmer, highly thought of those who knew him. As he was a man of good habits no can reason can be assigned for the accident.

Hi again

This COULD be Hanna/Johanna. Please note that her last name would more than likely have been according to the patronymic naming conventions used back then.
Hi,

This COULD Be your John, but you'll need to find more information about him in order to determine if its him or not. You could perhaps chase his mans half brother to see if he ended up anywhere near John, either in the censuses or maybe either of them are mentioned on the ship manifests.

I found the following on the Swedish emigration DVD "EMIBAS"

Johan Vilhelm Eriksson, b. 19 SEP 1860 in Knista, Örebro län, Närke.
Emigrated 21 APR 1882 from Vilsta, Sörgård, Hackvad, Örebro län, Närke.
Hi Anna,

Here is all I have on them. Hannah M Peterson, born 1865 in Sweden married John W. Erickson, born 1861, in 1891. I don't know what their initials stand for nor do I know where they married. I know John immigrated in 1882 as did Hannah's brother Charles so perhaps they all came together. Don't know for sure though.

Hannah and John lived in Danbury, Connecticut from at least 1900 to their deaths. I don't know when either of them died, but know it was after 1940 as they show up in the census for that year.

Their daughter Edna E. Erickson was born in Connecticut Sept 4, 1891 and died 13 Aug. 1974 in Danbury. She was a beekeeper.

I know John Erickson worked in a hat factory from 1910 to 1930, but don't know exactly which one. They lived at 100 Elm Street in Danbury.

I'd love to know more about John and where he came from as well as Hannah's parents. I don't have his parent's names, but hers were Peter Gustave Peterson and Eva Anderson.

Also would be interested to find out when John and Hannah died and where they as well as Edna are buried.

Thank you so much for looking. I appreciate it. Am curious to see what you are able to turn up. If I find anything further in the meantime I will keep you posted.
Jennifer

I know, its tricky but important that you get the right person obviously.

The records from the EMBAS DVD does not state which route they went via in terms of getting to the US, just where they left from and final destination.

Why don't you try to find his brother Olof Edwald Eriksson that also emigrated. Or have a look at the emigration papers in order to see who he was going to, that might give you a clue too.
He may be somewhere around your Anton if that is indeed his brother

Let me know if there is anything else I can help you with
Anna

For those findagrave memorials, I actually connected Alice to my memorial of Anton I created last night. So yes I do know that those Anton and Alice memorials are the ones I am looking for.

This is just quite a puzzle! I am thinking the first family you found could be it because since Erickson/Eriksson is his last name, his father would have to be named Erik. Plus the departure from Sweden is closer to his arrival date in New York City.

I also know that he must have took a ship from Sweden to England, because he arrived on a ship from England to the USA.

Hi,

I don't know if you've seen this for Alice and Anton:
http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=an...;

There is another person on the EMIBAS DVD that looks interesting

Erik Anton Eriksson, b. 29 SEP 1869 in Ed, Västernorrlands län, Ångermanland. Emigrated 15 AUG 1887 from Oldsjön, Ed, Västernorrlands län, Ångermanland.

I had a look at the DVD "Swedish population 1880" and found this

Father: Lars Ersson Edström in Ed, Västernorrlands län, Ångermanland.
Mother: Stina Lisa Andersdotter in Ed, Västernorrlands län, Ångermanland.

Their children
Erik Anton, b. 1869 in Ed, Västernorrlands län, Ångermanland.
Jakob Olof, b. 1873 in Ed, Västernorrlands län, Ångermanland.
Lars Konrad, b. 1876 in Ed, Västernorrlands län, Ångermanland.
Anna Amalia, b. 1879 in Ed, Västernorrlands län, Ångermanland.

He has at least two more siblings ccording to the DVD "Swedish population 1900"
Karl Abraham, b. 1887 in Ed, Västernorrlands län, Ångermanland.
Anna Ottilia, b. 1889 in Ed, Västernorrlands län, Ångermanland.

My problem with this family is that the father is using Edström as a last name and it would be quite uncommon to change from Edström to Ersson/Eriksson.
There is also the issue of arriving too late to New York

Anna

I talked to my Grandpa (Grandson of Anton Erickson) today and I learned of Anton and Alice's death dates and burial locations!

Anton born About 1869 and died in 1943. He is buried in Long Lake Lutheran Cemetery in Isanti County, Minnesota.

Alice was born 1883/1885 and died in 1950. Apparently Alice remarried after Anton passed away. She married John Anderson and they are both buried in Lakeside Cemetery in Isanti County, Minnesota.

But through all of this, my grandpa and I still don't know Anton or Alice's parents. Just thought I would update you with for information to help your search.

This most certainly could be a match! The only thing is that I am almost positive that his middle name was Erik

The only way I could confirm this is a match is if I could find his burial records and look at his birth date. (which btw I know he is buried in Minnesota, just don't know where)

I have searched on findagrave.com and I think this might be him: http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=Er...;
This Anton is buried where my Anton lived in Minnesota so I think this Anton is the Anton I am looking for.

Also, thanks for all your help!

Unfortunately I do not have any info on his parents or siblings.

I do know now that he arrived on June 11, 1888, in New York City aboard the ship Republic (Although I am not 100% positive that this is correct).

His wife Alice Mary Holm was born in Minnesota on May 20, 1885, and her parents were born in Sweden (Just don't know the names of her parents).

Anton and Alice's children are:
Ethel E Erickson (1903-1930) [Married Clifford Gerald McKenney]
Evelyn Pearl Erickson (1905-1996) [Married John Mathias Bohlin]
Rudolph Carl Erickson (1907-1990) [Married Leona Gertie Oslund]
Genevieve "Jean" Erickson (1910-2001 (my great grandma)) [Married Marland Glen Temple]

Thanks for the help on searching!

Hi,

I narrowed down the search for Anton (which wouldn't have been Anthony in Sweden, just Anton) to 7.
Do you know when he emigrated from Sweden? Do you know if he came over with his parents and siblings? Do you know the names of parents and siblings?
Anything that would help narrow down the search?

Let me know and I'll have another look for you.

I didn't get a match for Alice, do you have more information about her as well?

Let me know

Anna

Normally I would scour the surname threads for anyone that seems they might be related, but in the case of the Ericksons, I only have Axel Erickson (wife Hilda Nelson) and daughter June Agnes (Stonecypher) (1924). I've searched through this forum section but found nothing promising.

If anyone has an Axel Erickson and/or Hilda Nelson in their tree, please reply or message me! I would like to find anything and everything I can on those Ericksons. Thank you.

Martha,

Thanks. At a minimum it confirms the information I had received while you were away from the Historical Society files in Berlin, NH. I'm glad you explained the Norquist bit, though, as I'd assumed that Edla and Maria (as I have her) had possibly married a couple of brothers! So, now I'm left with Maria and Edla unmarried!

My connection is that I'm putting together family information for a friend of mine, who is related to Erick Alfred Erickson through his marriage to Gunhilda Kristine Schrøder, who was a sister to Karl (Carl) Laurenius Schrøder, who married Emilie Gustave Paulsen, and had a daughter, Goldie M. Schroder, and my friend is the wife of Goldie's son.

The "family history" I put together was my friend's husband's birthday present last month. I've told her I will keep the search on, but less aggressively for now. Maintain the database and later provide her with a combined tree for the two of them, so their kids can have a full tree, rather than a very lopsided one! :-)

Cheers,

Jared

Jared
