Looking for any info on Edith Ericksons parents, I have no leads. Edith married Henry Nelson and had my grandfather Bernard. Was told that Ediths family had some wealth and owned gas stations in Negaunee Michigan. They had a "homestead" there. Edith had a sister named Helen. Any info would be greatly appreciated as I've hit a roadblock. My grampa isn't much help and my mom wasn't ever able to meet her gramma Edith because of a divorce situation so was told they used to drive by and try to get a glimpse of her. Any leads would be helpful. I think they were from Sweden

I'm sorry but Betsy and Erick were my grandparents so you have the names turned around! I remember vaguely a Hannah, who was an imposing woman who scared this small child abit, but that's it. They lived in Prairie Farm on a farm, then turned it over to son Melvin when Erick died. Betsy moved to live in the town of Prairie Farm and are buried at West Akers Lutheran Church. They had for children: Hazel (Peter) Husby, Clarence, Norman, Melvin, Elmer (my father) and two daughters who died of pneumonia. At West Akers are the graves of Erick's parents - Andriene and Andrew.

Engolf Erickson is my grandfather. He died Dec. 6, 1985 in Beresford. He married Beatrice Jeanette Wickstrom on Sept. 25, 1956. She was born Feb. 1, 1926, at Beresford and died July 19, 2008, at Pioneer Memorial Hospital, Viborg, Turner, S.D. She was buried alongside grandpa at Brooklyn Cemetery, rural Lincoln Co., S.D. Beatrice's parents are (Carl) Alfred Wickstrom and Johanna (Hannah) Adina Sundstrom

Engolf and Beatrice had three daughters: Kathleen (Kathy) Margo Erickson (born March 13, 1958, she was killed in a car accident in Minnesota on Aug. 6, 1989); Jan Marie Erickson, who lives in Beresford; and Mary Ellen Boden, who lives in Springfield, S.D., and is married to John Boden.

Mary and John Boden are my parents. They have two children: Tera Ann (Benjamin) Schmidt of Yankton, S.D., and Amanda Jo (Jimmy Humpal) Boden of Tyndall, S.D. I have four children: Kyle Harold, Mary Alice, Ella Mildred and John William.

Being on the Social Security Death Index does not necessarily mean the decedent received Social Security benefits. It only means that the death was reported to the Social Security Administration. While not all deaths are reported, I suspect by the 1980s that most deaths of adults with social security numbers were reported, even if they never received SS benefits of any kind. Indeed, it looks like the first John on the list (the one spelled Ericson) did not receive any benefits.

Given such a short list and the fact that the last residence or "last benefit" location is known, you should be able to find death certificates and/or obituaries that will tell you whether any of these men were the John Erickson you seek.

My problem is that I don't recall Social Security considering HIV a disability back then. I hesitated to expose this information because of any relatives John may have had. The sister's name was Anna (Aron Erickson's sister) in sweden.
We have only one picture of Eric with sons: Aron, John, Ander, and daughter Anna. We believe the picture was taken in the Sweden before the sons emigrated to usa probably around 1900.

My great great grandfather emigrated to USA around 1900 from sweden. His name was Aron Erickson. He had 2 brothers; John Erickson, and Ander Eckberg. They also had a sister in sweden who we do not know if stayed in the old country or emigrated with them?
Aron married Karen Martinson, who was born in Norway. They had three sons. We believe the oldest was born in Sweden. And that Aron came to America right after the baby was born, and returned to Sweden after about 1 yr. to bring Karen and their son back with him. They had the other two sons, and two daughters in america.
They lived in Chicago area for a while, and then moved to Los Angeles around 1930's.

Perhaps there is some connection?

J. Walter Erickson, 91, of 1420 Winch Rd., Lakewood, went home to be with his Lord and Savior at 12:49 p.m. Saturday (August 23, 2008) in WCA Hospital.

A lifelong area resident, he was born August 3, 1917 in Jamestown, a son of the late Eric W. and Sigrid Erickson.

Before his retirement in 1983, he was the shipping room foreman for James-town Metal Products for many years. His post-retirement years found him working as an engineer for Larson Metal Manufacturing, Inc. for 27 years, where he just completed his last job assignment last week. In earlier years he had worked for the former Watson Manufacturing Company, Pearson's Market and the City Market.

He was a longtime active member of the Hillcrest Baptist Church, where he served on the deacon board, the trustee board, the plan-ning board for the current church and as an usher. He also loved to sing and was a member of the church choir.

He will be remembered as a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather who was known as a ''Jack of all Trades.'' He could fix anything at anytime for anyone. He was a true family man who made many treasurers for his family.

Surviving are his wife, the former Tessibel ''Tess'' Long, whom he married March 1, 1940; two sons, David W. (Mary) Erickson and Randall W. Erickson, both of Lakewood; two daughters, Cynthia D. (Dennis) Gleason of Ash-ville and Sharon L. (Bob) Gustafson of Bemus Point; six grandchildren: Susan Schon of Pittsburgh, Pa., Kathleen Edwards of Cin-cinnati, Ohio, Craig Gleason of Ashville, Jennifer Mozzi of Bemus Point, Meghan Peterson of Greenville, S.C. and Britta Brown of West Ellicott; and nine great grandchildren.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Hillcrest Baptist Church. Mark J. Hinman, associate pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery.

Here are all John Ericksons (including variant spellings) listed in the Social Security Death Index who were born from 1937 to 1943 and died in the 1980s. My search included all middle names and middle initials; it just happens that none of these five men had one listed on their SSDI record. The state of "issue" is probably, but not necessarily, the state in which the person was born. None matches your date estimates exactly--the only one to die in 1986 was born in 1937. But all five are reasonably close:

What more do you know about him? I checked the Social Security Death Index, and found no John E. Erickson born in 1940-44, or died in 1984-88. Was he in the US, and if so, do you know what state he was born and/or died in?

If he had a social security number and has died, he should be in the database at http://ssdi.rootsweb.ancestry.com/. You can enter queries (various spellings, dates, etc.) yourself to see if you can find anything. For example, there was a John M. Ericsson (note middle initial and surname differences) born 1944, died 1985.

There is much more you can do, depending on how much effort you want to put into it. Good luck!

I have been researching John Edward Erickson born in the early 1940's but may have been born as early as 1938. My John was gay and died of HIV. I would like to know where he is buried. I do not know what John's middle name was but I thought it was Edward. Also recently found out that my John may have been born in 1938 or so. My John would have never married or had children. That would have been a given.

I had some updated information that the John I am researching was a little older than expected! He was born about 1938 or 1939 maybe even as late as 1940. In the late 1960's he lived in IL but also came to Tulsa for classes at University of Tulsa (possibly petroleum engineering) in 1967--only stayed the summer, though. He passed away in the mid-1980's (85 to 87) and supposedly died in CA but really don't know. Really would love some info on this guy. Phyllis

It appears that the Christina you are researching is a different person; my Christina Andersdotter Erickson was born 27 July, 1838 in Rassas, Adelov, Sweden married Lars Peter Erickson 14 Oct 1866 and had nine children. The family seattled in Scandia, Warren County, PA. Her parents were Anders Jonsson & Maria Olofsdotter...had 6 children Johanna, Sven Johan, Christina, Ida, August and another Ida.

Interesting note....you should contact the Warren County Historical society in Warren, PA (phone: 814-723-1795). I encountered another Christina Erickson (1843-1908) who also married a Lars Peter Erickson (1839-1873) in Warren County. They lived in Sugar Grove Twp and were members of the Swedish Methodist Church. The historical society sent me a very detailed letter that was written to another individual (who lived in New Hampshire) researching the Erickson family. They included this incredible history; thinking I might have some connection they overlooked. I found no relationship.
This particular area of the country has many, many Erickson, Ericsson...good luck!

Mrs. Erickson was born on March 25, 1908, in Muscatine, the daughter of William and Fannie Thomas Holzhauer. She married Allvar R. Erickson on Sept. 25, 1934, in Muscatine. He preceded her in death in 1973.

She was a lifetime member of First Baptist Church; she taught Sunday School for over 50 years. She was a member of the Muscatine General Hospital Auxiliary and the Telephone Pioneers Club. She was an operator for Northwestern Bell for 30 years, retiring in 1973.

Survivors include a son, Gary L. Erickson and his wife, Lola, of Muscatine; a daughter, Karen Orr and her husband, Harlan, of Muscatine; two sisters-in-law, Fern Ahlf of Muscatine and Marilyn Erickson of Mount Pleasant, Mich.; and a special cousin, Edna Askam of Muscatine; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Allvar in 1973; one sister Zelma Goddard.

Mrs. Erickson was born on Sept. 25, 1913, in Big Rock, the daughter of Edward and May Butler Miller. She married Carl C. Erickson on June 29, 1935, in Davenport. He preceded her in death on May 16, 1988.

She was a member of Ziegler Memorial Lutheran Church.

She assisted her husband on the family farm. She enjoyed plants and quilting. In later years her life revolved around her family and church.

Survivors include a daughter, Janice Lichtenwald and her husband, Jerry, of Muscatine; a son, Keelon Erickson and his wife, Helen, of Pauls Valley, Okla.; three sisters, Violet Murphy of Yuma, Ariz., Edith Snyder of Apple Valley, Calif. and Elaine Green and her husband, Henry, of Yuma; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a sister, Alice Colletta; and a brother, Ward Miller.

WILTON, Iowa -- Einer M. Erickson, 92, Wilton, died Friday, April 11, 2003, at Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Davenport.

Services were at Zion Lutheran Church, Wilton. The Rev. Wayne Fredericksen and Vicar Wade Mattsfield officiated. Musical selections were provided by organist, Linda Timmsen and vocalist, Henry Bentley. Mr. Erickson was born on April 13, 1910, in Wilton, the son of Erick and Signe Jensen Erickson. He married Elnoria R. Baer McCoy on July 8, 1969, in Davenport.

He was employed for 29 years at John Deere Plow and Planter, Moline, Ill., retiring April 30, 1975.

He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1942-45 attached to the 21st Dep. Rep. Squadron and belonged to the Wilton American Legion Post No. 584.

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Wilton, and a former member of the Wilton Fire Department. He had a green thumb and loved gardening.

Survivors include his wife, Elnoria Erickson of Davenport; a brother, Alfred Erickson of Davenport; four sisters, Ann Decker of Hickory Corners, Mich., Ruby Arnold and her husband, Jack, of West Liberty, Ruth Kephart and Otilda Timmsen, both of Wilton; and longtime caregiver and friend, Jean McDaniel Maxwell of Wilton.

He was preceded by his parents; a brother, Hans Erickson; and a sister, Marion Moeller.

ALEDO, Ill. -- Wayne H. Erickson, 79, Aledo, died Saturday, Oct. 8, 2005, surrounded by his family after a long courageous battle with cancer.

The Rev. David Schweppe will officiate the services. Burial will be at the National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal, with military services conducted by the Mercer County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1571.

He was born Nov. 1, 1925, in Ames, Iowa, the son of Ingval and Anna Houge Erickson. He married Betty L. Vore on June 26, 1948, in Slater, Iowa.

He graduated from Ames High School.

He was a U.S. military veteran, who proudly served his country in the Navy, Army and the Marine Corp. He served on the USS Iowa and witnessed the atomic bomb testing at Bikini Island. While in the Marine Reserves, he started the ?Toys for Tots? program in the Ames area.

He was employed as a fireman, police officer, truck driver and retired from General Cartage in 1986 due to ill health.

He was a member of Mercer County VFW Post 1571, American Legion Fallerans Post 121 in Aledo, Messiah Lutheran Church and the Teamsters Union.

He enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting and being with his family. He had a dog named Smokie.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Linda Douglas of Milan, Ill., Susan Thirtyacre and husband, Neal, of Illinois City, Ill. and Alice Wainwright and Sam Splear of Milan; a son, Chief Warrant Officer Four Dennis Erickson and Patti Page of Vienna, Va.; eight grandchildren, Suzanne Hanes and husband, Brett, Wendy MacDonald and husband, Mike, Kelly Senatra and husband, Chris, Anna Thirtyacre, April Bowlyou and husband, Brent, Craig Wainwright and wife, Chelo, Dustin Erickson and wife, Tara, and Jacqueline Erickson; 10 great-grandchildren, Andrew, Emily, Lauren, Jack, Katlyn, Eric, Ryan, Brady, Mason and Allie; and a brother, John Erickson of Van Nuys, Calif.

ROCHESTER, Minn. - Delbert Irvin Erickson, 79, Grammercy Park in Rochester, died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2007, at Field Crest Care Center, Hayfield, Minn.

Mr. Erickson was born May 18, 1927, in Viroqua, Wis., the son of Joseph and Gladys (Melby) Erickson. He married Dorothy M. Kyllo on Jan. 31, 1948, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua, Iowa.

He was raised in Viroqua. He farmed near Kasson for a short time and then worked for Root's Grocery in Rochester. In 1951 he purchased the business on West Center Street from Fred Root, changed the name to Del's Superette and operated it until 1968. He then worked for Red Owl before working at Barlow's/Hy-Vee for the next 31 years. Upon retirement, he volunteered for Channel One and then joined with his friends at the Salvation Army's ''Caring Partners'' program.

He was an elder and founding member of Gethsemane Lutheran Brethren Church and was a member of the Christian Businessmen's Association.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Rev. Darryl Erickson and wife Karen of Grandview, Iowa, David and wife Jennifer of Arlington, Va., Tim and wife Melanie of Rochester; a daughter, Sharon Hiebert and husband Rev. Cal of McHenry, Ill.; 11 grandchildren; and two sisters Pearl Peterson and husband Rev. Harold of Bella Vista, Ark. and Dorothy Een and husband Sheldon of Minooka, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Jay; and an infant stillborn son, Jonathan.

Mr. Erickson was born on November 19, 1919, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Robert Frederic and Elizabeth Tull Hammond Erickson. He married Josephine Stumpff on August 3, 1941, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. She preceded him in death on August 25, 2005.

He graduated from Roosevelt High School in Cedar Rapids in 1938 and the Uof I College of Engineering with a bachelor of science in engineering and received his professional engineering license in 1950.

He was employeed by Cherry Burrell and the Department of Engineering in Cedar Rapids, Stanley Engineering in Muscatine and Veenstra and Kimm Engineering in West Des Moines.

He was a member of Theta Tau Fraternity, Za-Ga-Zig Shriners, The Isaac Walton League and the American and Iowa Society of Civil Engineers.

Survivors include seven children; Susan Ruffert and husband, Dave, of Des Moines, Lissa Dickson and husband, Bruce, of Farmington, Minnesota, Brenda Lucas and husband, Mike, of Bagley, Valerie Stifel and husband, Steve, of Des Moines, Robert Ericksen III and wife, Penny, of Grimes, Mary Lynn Gray and husband, Tom, of Dallas Center and Emily Winders and husband, Jeff, of Grimes; 18 grandchildren 21 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Richard Erickson and Paul Erickson and wife, Shirley, all of Cedar Rapids.

I don't know much about the Christina I'm looking for. I do know that she was born in Pjatteryd, Smaland, Sweden on 10 February 1847, and died after 1927. According to my great grandmother's obituary, she lived in Warren in 1927. I only know in 1927 her last name was Erickson or Erikson. The siblings who came to the states (that I know of) were my great grandmother Johanna Sofia Andersdotter (15 Jan 1951 - 8 Aug 1927) and their brother John A Anderson (7 Dec 1863 - 6 Jan 1948). He lived in DuBois, Clearfield county for many years.
