I think this is the same Gershon/Grigorii/George Eskin who was a relative (either a brother or cousin--family relationships are sometimes hard to figure out in Russian) of my great-grandfather, Max (formerly Mendel) Eskin. Max's patronymic was either Aronovich or Ionovich.
The store you mention may be Bratya Eskiny, which my great-grandfather and his brothers/cousins ran.
My grandmother Fanya (Fay) Eskin (married name Karlik) often mentioned cousins named Stella and Frida. I know Frida lived in New York; she once sent me a book. Unfortunately, I never met either of them.
Morris Eskin of Australia told me about Golda. I never met her either, even though I lived with my grandparents when growing up in LA, and I don't recall that my grandmother mentioned her.
Regarding the Karlik name...if you are familiar with Harbin, you may have heard of Mikhail Karlik, who was sent to a Soviet prison camp near Karaganda. I think my grandfather, Grigorii (George) Karlik from Balta, Ukraine. was his brother. Unfortunately, I found out about Mikhail's existence only recently.
I would love to see your photos if possible!
