I was invited by a coworker to view Ancestry.com as a guest. He has been gracious and very helpful at showing me how to navigate and search this site.

Your entry about the Espe-Knight-Mitchell family interested me since this is my line.
I want to get more information and correct some of the entries you have cited.
My Mother Anna Elizabeth Knight married my Father Hillard Tilline Espe on May 4, 1938.
Mother's Mother was Elizabeth Reese Mitchell and her Father was Claude Wade Knight.
Your entry about Ervin Knight and mother a Hyatt confirms my Mother's recollection from Grandpa. He (Claude) and his sister were put in an Orphanage at an early age. His sister died in the orphange and Grandpa was adopted. That is how the Parker line comes into our line.

What information do you have on Ervin Knight?

I would be most grateful and indebted for any confirming information.

We understood that Grandpa's parents were - one from the south - confederate and one from the north where the families where absolutely against the marriage.

Alice Marguerite Knight married Billy Cook. She died of leukemia Sept. 1987.

Thank you for your time,

Karen Ann Espe Mason

I have a question about Claude W Knight's father. You say his father was Ervin knight and his mother was a hyatt. I am helping a friend who is the daughter of Hillard T. Espe and Anna Mitchell. She has a family story that Hillard actual mother was Hilda - Ole P espe's daughter and the father of Hillard was unknown. He was adopted by O.P. If you have the information that Ervin was the Father she would appreciate it.

Two years ago I was taking a train across the country and eating breakfast in the dining car when a stranger was seated to share my table with me. We chatted as strangers do when they meet in such circumstances. Somehow we managed to mention that we were both of Norwegian ancestry and he explained that he was from Lee County, Illinois. My interest was tweaked and I asked his name. "Espe" he replied.

I smiled and explained to him that we were related. My own "Espe" connection had left Illinois in the early 1870's to head further west but Espe Olsons from Ullensvang they were and they had left many relatives behind in Lee County and nearby. We finished our meal together and later that day I was able to show him the entire family linkage on the laptop computer I had in my room on the train. My great-great grandfather was brother to his great-great grandfather.

My great great great aunt, Ingeborg Maakestad, married Lars Olson Espe in Lee co IL in the 1850's. Some stories say she dies shortly after but I have no information on her.

I have visited the cemetary in Lee Co where many Maakestad's, Skromme's and Reisetters, along with Espe's are buried. Do you know where Lars and Ingeborg fit into the Espe family? Thanks, Anne

Hi Jerry,in my family the Prestegards married into the Espe's. They lived near Odda, Norway and the Espes on Espeland. They migrated to the US in 1870, settling in Lee County Illinois and then later moving to Jewell, Iowa, and descendants to Bryceland,(sp?) Minn.. Have you ever read the Espe and Prestegaard Families of Norway book by Breta Espe Soldat? It is wonderful and has more info than you can imagine. Hope this helps! Robin P S I am interested in how you connect. If you wish you may email me directly at tweetyme@sssnet.com to exchange information.

Robin, I wonder where your PRESTEGARDS came from, and where they lived in the US. My mother was related to John Prestegard, whose father, Tom, came (I think) from "Ori, in Borgund." John's wife, Stella, was I think a Hattlestad, and they came from Stavanger. John and Stella lived at Leroy, Minnesota.

I've been trying to help Tom Reisetter with his family tree. He says his real name is Espe. Would that be from
the place named "Espeland" on the map?

http://www.maplandia.com/norway/rogaland/espeland/

Thanks, Jerry Baker

Hello, My name is Chris REISTTER. I'm 26 and am trying to trace my family history. I just discovered that my great grandfather Harvey REISETTER was adopted and that ESPE was his original surname before he was adopted by Ed Thomas REISETTER. I was trying to trace my linage under my surname but that took a 180 a moment ago. Do you have any information on ESPE. Any information would be greatly appreciated. From what I was told, Harvey's father passed away and mother went M.I.A. Thats all that have gathered so far.

Ida F. was the daughter of John Martin and Emilie Henrietta (Espe) Kemmerle. She was born Sep 1888. Don't what happened to her; she may have died young. She was one of 5 children that Martin and Emilie had.

Hi, my name is Sandy Carmichael. I would like to share information about Magna Kinseth Espe's daughters. I was born in Bode, Iowa in 1941, and I have heard of Magna all my life. I don't know why I didn't receive notification of your response to me, but I was just checking and found your reply. If you could email me at ffpdems@oldwiz.net, I would really appreciate it! Sincerely, Sandy
