“Sarah [Esra] Ross, her brother Thomas Esra, and his wife Rebecca,” sold their share of Abner’s “NW qtr of Sec 18 Twp 9 R 20” in Ross County “10 Nov 1826” to Peter and Catherine [Esra] Wheeland. Solomon is named in a similar sale to Peter and Catherine. [Neither record states that Catherine was a sibling of Sarah, Thomas, or Solomon. The records suggests that Abner had six heirs, though other evidence suggests seven.]

In other records, Sarah, Thomas, and Solomon are explicitly connected to their father Abner. I’m not aware of any record that explicitly proves any of the other daughters’ relation to Abner, and the land transfers among siblings is the closest thing to proof for Catherine that I know of.
Hello Kristin. Yes I would love to see/have pictures of Sarah Jane & her spouses/childern if you are able to e-mail them to me. I guess You & I could be considered shirt tail relation. Your G.Grandmother (Sarah J.) my G.Grandfather (William) sister & brother. Also any brief history of Sarah you mite know. I'm guessing she ended up staying in N.Dakota with husband #2 and raising a family there. Also would you know any info on Sarah's older sister & brother Mary A. Essery & Joseph Essery. I have 1 record of Mary marrying a: William H. Lane on Aug 30 1877 Boone county Iowa, but thats all. And nothing on Joseph as of yet. Any bits of info would help. Lastly what city & state do You live in? I'm interested in any distant relatives I have and there where-a-bouts. I'm in your debt, Thank you. Here is my e-mail address to send pictures to: ironwill50@yahoo.com Donald Leroy Essery

Sadie or Sarah Jane Essery was my Great Grandfathers sister. As was already stated to you: she is the daughter of Anthony and Mary Essery, my GG Grandparents. I show Sarah Jane at the ripe old age of 6 yrs old in a 1870 Iowa Censes. That would mean she was born in P.E.I. Canada around 1864. The 1870 Iowa Censes list her as having a older sister at the time too: Mary A. Essery age 8 yrs. And 2 brothers: Joseph age 10 and William age 2 sometimes refurred to as Willie (my Great Grandfather). I also have a record of a Sadie J. Essery interring into marriage with a man called: A.J. Williams on July 3 1881 in Boone County Iowa. This would make her about 17 at the time. Thats about all I know of Sarah at this time. Hope I've been some help. Donald Leroy Essery. ironwill50@yahoo.com

Sarah “Sadie” Essery was daughter of Anthony and Mary Essery, both born in England about 1831 and 1832, respectively. Not known when they immigrated to Canada, but William Anthony and his four older brothers and sisters were all born in Prince Edward Island, Canada, between 1853 and 1868. They immigrated to the U.S. (Iowa) in 1868.

There is a marriage record for a Sarah Essery to A.J. Williams in Boone County, Iowa, in July 1881, but in 1900 she is married to Jasper T. Smith for 19 years. Their three sons Frank (1882), Jasper (1884), and Leroy (1889) were all born in Iowa. They moved to North Dakota before 1900 where they were enumerated in the censuses of 1900 and 1910 in Fargo.

The earliest records of Esserys were in County Devon, England, in the 1600’s. The given name Anthony goes back as far as 1630 in the family, and was often repeated.
You may contact me directly at essarys@aol.com.

Coincidentally, Sarah is the sister of ironwill50’s ancestor William Anthony inquired about on this Essery board in 2006.
You may e-mail me directly at essarys@aol.com
Yes, it would have been in the late 1800's in the state of Iowa. Then in the early 1900's the family split up, some of them moving to L.A. California and some moving to Kalamazoo Michigan.

I know now that Sadie "Sarah" Jane Essery gave birth in 1889 in Des Moines, Iowa to a son, Anthony LeRoy Smith. It is possible he was a product of a second marriage but I am not sure. Her parents may have been English. I may have been correct OR incorrect that Sadie settled in North Dakota. I know her son, Anthony LeRoy Smith, did live in North Dakota part of his life. Anthony married Hazel Gertrude VanSickel, who was born in 1893 in Aberdeen, SD. I really need to find Sadie "Sarah" Jane Essery. Please contact me if you have any leads.

They both died in Burra
South Australia and are buried there.
Any help from anyone interested will be greatly
appreciated,as I have most of the Australian
family.
Hello Margot, my name is Karen Robinson and I am in
Australia. I am trying to do family tree on John Pearce
born 1803 Torrington, Devon and Elizabeth Essery born
1806 Bideford? They married c1830 possibly Bideford, as
their first child John was christened there in 1833. I have no
leads at all on John or Elizabeths parents. The only Eliz.
Essery I can find was born 1807 to Thomas and Elizabeth
Lott, but this child died at 11months and is buried with her
grandparents at Bideford.I would really love any help .

Regards Karen Robinson

Do you have access to IGI for Devonshire? An Elizabeth Esworthy dau. of Thomas Essery and Elizabeth Lott was christened in Bideford 1 Nov 1807. (Thomas and Elizabeth m. Bideford 5 May 1803.) Warren Dale Essary lists this family group, but with no confirmed pedigree.

Margot, there are two christening records in the IGI for John Essery: 26 Sep 1750 and 19 Dec 1755 in Little Torrington, both son of John and Grace Essery, who I take to be Grace Collacot in John and Grace’s marriage record there. Other christening records for children of John and Grace Essery are for Mary, Joan, William, Thomas, and Robin. There appear to be several John Esserys christened in Little Torrington, so some records can be risky to interpret. How is your Robert Essery related? You may e-mail me directly at essarys@aol.com. Regards

I am reserching the ancestors of Robert and Mary Essery of Northam Devon. I have managed to trace Robert's history back to Little Torrington in the 18th century to 1750. Any help linking up siblings of John Essery born circa 1750 would be much appreciated. I beleive his parents were John Essery and Grace Collacot wed 1749 but I ned to "prove" the link.

margotessery@stevens525.freeserve.co.uk

Rex, I just read your post of Mar 2001 on the Essery board. I am not familiar with an Elizabeth Essery from the 18th century, but my Essary family has a tradition that goes back to 18th century Virginia, and I am not aware of any other Essarys or Esserys that fit that description. Our tradition goes back to western Virginia (Lynchburg and Russel County, headwaters of the Clinch River, but probably from eastern Pennsylvania before that). Most of the male Essarys show up in North Carolina before 1800 and in eastern Tennessee shortly after that. It would be very interesting to add what you know about your Elizabeth Essery to this family puzzle.
Regards,
Gary Essary
I don't know if I will be of any help, but my grandfather was Leslie A. Owens, born in Telephone, Texas in 1917, died 1999 in Tulsa. He never really knew much about his dad, and his mom never really talked about him either. His father died in 1918 and may have been buried in Honey Grove, TX. I havent found out for sure, but his name may have been Luther. He was married to "Nannie" Arnold. I need to find out her real given name to be sure. I understand that there was a half uncle that sill lived there in Telephone, but how long ago I don't know. I had been always told that I had a Cherokee blood in my family, but was not sure how close. I have a few old "postcard pictures" and a couple of love letters with a 1912 postmark from Telephone.

Your Joseph Essary came much earlier than mine. Warren Dale's genealogy does show Sarah Virginia Essary b. circa 1854 daughter of Joseph Essary b. 1814 and "Annette or JENETTE" Jennings. Virginia lineage, most likely your line. We do not know Sarah's spouse or descendants. Please e-mail direct to gared@aol.com. There's quite a bit of information on this Essary line.

Your Joseph Essary was my great uncle Joe, brother of my grandfather Alonzo. Alonzo was called "Uncle Lum" in Joe's family. Joseph was son of Andrew Meschach Abednago Essary and Nancy Miller. My dad and his brother and sister lived in Oklahoma, and their parents used to take them to Texas to see Uncle Joe and his family. I talked to Grace years ago, and she remembered their visits. Joe's wife Liz was Mary Elizabeth Cook. In addition to the eight children you named, they had a daughter Goldern Jewel who died less than a month after birth.
Who are your ancesters that go back to Joseph Essary?
