Hi Linda,

I have been lucky with the surnames in my family tree, there are so many Pick's or Essexes. When I looked at Levi Essex's census entry I saw mention that he was a Chelsea Pensioner and that lead me to go to the National Archives as they hold such soldiers papers I was able to get a copy of his discharge papers. If and when I have the time I may try and trace his service over the years he may well have served in other battles in say the Peninsular War as he joined in 1804. I
I think you should be able to access my tree from the front page of ancestry if you search under the family tree tab and put in Levi Essex born 1779 England Warwickshire you should come uo with Pick family and a Bannister family.

Good luck.
Hello Rita,
It is good to hear from you.
My husband's father's mother's parents were Henry TURNER and Sophia ESSEX.
You have found out a lot about them, haven't you?
How did you find out about George and his family?
The info about Levi is extremely interesting, too. I would not have any idea how to find all that out.
Am I able to access the further information which you mention on the PICK family tree? Is so, please can you tell me how to do so?
Kind regards,
Linda
I seem to fit into the family tree my gggrandfather was William Essex born 1845 who married Fanny Draper.

I also have Sophia Essex 1858 marrying a Henry Turner and Ann 1860 marrying a John William Bentley Neal.
George 1864 seems a sad tale he married a Frances Jane Tearle lived in India and had 3 children both he and Frances died in 1897 and the children were sent home to England, the 1901 census has the eldest two living with Edward 1852 and the youngest with Joseph 1847.

Levi born Coventry 1778/9 is interesting, in 1804 he joined Royal Horse Artillery as a driver he served in the RHA until 1816 when army numbers were reduced following the final defeat of Napoleon. His discharge papers note he served at Waterloo and was credited with an extra two years army service for this. He was granted a pension of 5 pence per day which in 1830 was increased to one shilling. This may indicate that he was wounded nevertheless he lived to a good age. The description in the discharge papers is 5ft 5 3/4 inches brown hair, grey eyes sallow complexion.

Further details are on the PICK family tree

Regards Rita

Sorry it has taken so long to reply. I replied immediately to the list instead of the message board.
I have Sophia ESSEX born 25th Sept 1858 at Harborough, Leics
her parents were: William Levi ESSEX born 15th Oct 1815 at Canterbury, Kent.Died 4th Dec 1876 at Great Bowden, Leics
Esther SEAL born 6th May 1820 at Little Bowden, Northants. They were married at the Parochial Chapel, Market Harborough, Leicester, on March 8th 1840.Both made their mark in register.Witnesses Luke Fellows and Ann Richardson.

I think that the parents of William Levi ESSEX were:Levi born c.1778 at Coventry, Warwicks. and unknown Elizabeth. I think that Elizabeth died and Levi then married Ann WESTBROOK.

I think that the parents of Levi were: William ESSEX and Elisabeth CLAY. They were married 11th July 1774 at Wolvey, Warwicks.

I had not come across your Elizabeth born 1850, until now.
I have ; Edward 1852; James 1854;George 1856;Sophia born 1858; Ann born 1860. Of course as William and Esther were married in 1840 it is reasonable to think that they had some children before Edward. I need to look for the family in the 1841 census and onwards.

Does this fit in with your tree?

Kind regards,
Linda

Linda and Lynda,

I have also been trying to trace my Essex family tree in England and just wondered whether you had any more information on William Essex who married Elizabeth Clay?

My initial research has centred around trying to find all the descendants of a Thomas Essex born in 1715/6 probably in the Colchester, Essex area. The family slowly moved to London and Birmingham, although I still have family in Essex. I've so far identified around 380 descendants including myself.

Thomas Essex (b 1715/6) had a number of children, one of which was William Essex born on 12 June 1743. He married a Hester Raynor on 10 November 1765 and they had a son called William. Unfortunately I have so far failed to find any more information on this William and what happenned to him. Could it be your William Essex? I fear not though.

I have been attempting to find Thomas's parents but no luck so far. This might then enable me to link up with other Essex families in England.

Any help/thoughts appreciated. Thanks

Chris Essex
That's what I'm trying to figure out. My John Essex was born in Maryland in 1794. His son David is born in Illinois in 1832. Then David's son is born in Iowa in 1867. David's son William Cecil Essex is born in 1901, but I don't a location, but he ends up living in Michigan.

So they were on the move, but I don't know where they were going, where they were coming from, and most imporatntly, shy they couldn't stay still.

She was born in Ipswich.
How far from Studley was your Henry born. Is it possible they could be cousins?

Margaret,

Would like to share information with you still.

Dr. Thomas Essex and wife Margaret Parks Essex had three children: Philip, Christina and Charity.

I have a photo of the Graves of Charity and her mother Margaret from Wilcox Cemetery, Jones Co. Iowa. Margaret died in 1844 in her 90s. I would like to find out more about Dr. Thomas Essex, I have no record of where he died or when. I have not been able to find any information on his Revolutionary Service as was stated in the George A. Essex genealogy book, either at NARA or DAR. I believe that Margaret, his wife lived with her daughter Charity Parsons and son in law James Parsons in Monroe Co. Indiana as early as 1820, from the census, then moved on with them in the late 1830's to Iowa.

Gina
Hello Joan,
Do you have any data on the daughter Charity, sister to Phillip?
I have a Charity Essex born 1784 place UNK , Father UNK mother was Margaret Essex b. c 1751. Charity had 3 children by a Mr. ? Begley in Knox Co. KY, then in 1812 married James Parsons jr. who was born 1785 VA. The original 3 children Ambrose b. 1804 KY, Helouis b. 1810 KY, and Martha b. 1812 KY took the name Parsons.
They moved on to Monroe Co. IND about 1815 where they had 4 more children, Margaret b. 1815 IND, Silas b. 1818 IND, Neely b. 1821 IND and Anne b. 1827 IND. In the Monroe Co. IN 1830 Census there was an old woman living with them in the 70-80 range.
The family moved on to Jones Co. and Linn Co. Iowa. Charity passed away in June 1842 where she is buried at the Wilcox Cem. near Viola, Linn Co. Iowa. On her tombstone is inscribed her maiden name of Essex and date of b. 1784. Buried here as well is her mother Margaret Essex died 4Nov1844 age 93. (c. 1751). She would probably be the old woman on the 1830 IND census. Charity's husband James died in 1863 in Linn Co Iowa and is buried same cem.

Please write and let me know if this connects to your Essex's...

Gina D.

t

I did find the pictures you posted of the gravestones of Margaret Parks Essex, her daughter Charity, and the other family members.
Since you have access to the Descendants of Thomas Essex I would appreciate your checking on a son, Jessey Essex b. 1796 in VA, I understand that nothing further was heard from him after his death 1848. I have an ancestor of that name whom I am trying to connect to this family.

I first find "my" Jessey Essex marrying Catherine Kendall in Aug., 1825 in Franklin Co., OH, land records Sept., 1825, find him in Delaware Co., OH on the tax lists for 1828, 1829,& 1830; census' 1830 [Delaware co., OH], 1840 [Wood co., OH], 2nd marriage to Betsy Colson in Crawford co., OH in 1834. The 1850 census for Wood co., OH does not produce any of the family, but there is evidence that they had moved on to Coles co., IL as a son of the 2nd marriage, Jesse P., is found there living with another family.

2 sons known to have been born to Jessey Essex & Catherine Kendall: John E. b. 1828, Delaware co., OH & David O. b. 1830 location not verified but probably Delaware co., OH.

John d. 1905, Norman, Cleveland co., OK Terr. David O. died 1864 near Decatur, Newton co., MS while serving with Co. H, 89th Regiment Indiana Volunteeer Infantry. The latter is my direct ancestor.

Thanks for any help.

Joey
Thomas J. Essex and Catherine Bennett

Hello everyone! I am looking for some help on Thomas J. Essex and Catherine Bennett family. Thomas was born around 1857 and died on 18 Sep 1928 (Ohio Death Index). He married Catherine Bennett on 3 Mar 1883 (Ohio Marriages, 1803-1900). She was the daughter of William T. Bennett and Mary S. Cummings. I have seen where she died in 1948 but have not found proof of this.

They were the parents of 9 children:
1.	Belva b. Sep 1884
2.	Verda b. Dec 1886
3.	Benjamin b. 12 May 1889 (Draft Card)
4.	Reed Thomas or Thomas Reed b. 7 Aug 1892 (Draft Card) and d. 25 Oct 1974 (Ohio Death Index)
5.	John William b. 27 Jan 1895 (Draft Card) and d. 11 Nov 1918 (info found on Paulding County, Ohio Rootsweb page)
6.	Howard T. b. 30 Dec 1897 (Draft Card and SSDI) and d. 12 Dec 1981 in Eaton, Preble, Ohio
7.	Carl R. b. 26 Feb 1900 (Draft Card) and died 5 May 1971 (Ohio Death Index)
8.	Harl D. b. 26 Feb 1900 (Draft Card)
9.	Elmer S. b. around 1909 and d. 5 Mar 1917 in Paulding (Ohio Death Index)

Misc. Info:

1.	Belva-- I have seen a researcher have her death date as 1952 but there is no source given or place given. Not sure if she married or not.
2.	Verda- The same researcher has given her death date and place as 3 Jan 1971 in Fort Wayne, Allen, Indiana and buried 6 Jan 1971 in Live Oak Cemetery in Paulding County, Ohio. I have requested an obit but again not sure if she got married so not sure if lookup volunteer can find an obit.
3.	Benjamin- According to census records he was married to Gertrude Eva ? (last name unknown). He was living up in Massachusetts in the 1920 census and in Pennsylvania in the 1930 census. The fellow researcher has his death date as 22 Nov 1964 but no place or source is given.
4.	Reed- Married to a Jean (last name unknown).
5.	John W. - Killed in the service on 11 Nov 1918. He enlisted on 22 Jul 1918.
6.	Howard T…. he was living with a brother in the 1930 census. Not sure if he ever married. He enlisted in the service on 2 Oct 1918 and honorable discharge on 13 Dec 1918. He graduated high school in 1916 from Paulding High School. (Information found on Paulding County, Ohio rootsweb site)
7. Carl was married to Loullie (last name unknown and name is spelled as it was on the census record). I have requested an obit so hopefully someone can help me. Carl graduated high school in 1918 from Paulding High School. According to his draft card, Carl was a school teacher.
8. Harl D. was twin of Carl. He was married to an Iva C. (last name unknown). I have seen a death date as 9 Jul 1930 but also found on the Allen County, Indiana that his obituary date was 9 Jul 1930 so maybe that was an evening paper and he died early morning on the 9th? Need to see if I can find a volunteer to get the obit. Harl also graduated in 1918 from Paulding high school. According to his draft card, Harl was a school teacher.
9. I really known nothing about Elmer. I do know that he was 9 months old in the 1910 census. I am thinking he was born around Jul 1909. He is buried at Live Oak Cemetery in Paulding County. I am not sure why he died as a child.

I am looking for any confirmed birth dates, death dates, marriages, burials etc that anyone can help me with.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Juls
