Yes,

Stephen was my great-great-grandfather. I had never been able to confirm the name of his first wife though I suspected from Illinois marriage records. I knew Ora was my g-g-grandmother Arminda Cooper Estelle's stepson, but I've had trouble finding much info on him & his mother. If I remember the family stories correctly, Ora and Eicy died together in an automobile accident. Ora, Eicy, Stephen & Arminda (as well as many of their other children & Stephen's brother William and his wife Rhoda) are buried near where I live, at Edmond & Arcadia OK. I would love to exchange information - have the Estells back to the Revolution. This is my work e-dress, I can also be reached at saranic@cox.net

Illinois Estells

I am researching my gg grandparents, Stephen E.Estell b. Oct 1858 in Missouri and Arminda Cooper Estell b. Jun 1864 in Illinois. I have seen spelling variations as Steven, Armanda, and Estill. They were married 1 Oct 1884 in Christian Co. Illinois, supposedly at a brother's home, I don't know if it was Stephen or Arminda's brother yet, but I'm ordering a copy of their marriage license. I don't know yet which county in Illinois they lived in but all but one of their children born prior to their coming to Oklahoma were born in Illinois. She was born in Nebraska, so they may have travelled that direction. They came to Oklahoma shortly after the land runs, in 1892 or 1893 and settled at Arcadia, Hartzell Township, Oklahoma County. They were supposed to have travelled with or met in Oklahoma some of his relatives, I think perhaps William H. Estell b. Apr 1843 and his wife Rhoda W. Estell b. May 1852, both b. in Indiana. Stephen's parents were both born in Indiana, Arminda's mother was born in Illinois, William's mother was born in Virginia, and Rhoda's parents were both born in Virginia, according to the 1900 census. Oral family history says Arminda's mother died when she was a girl and her father remarried but I don't have their names. The only other names I have at this time are family names of Lucinda (Lucy), Josiah and Peter, possibly brother and sister or in-laws of one or both. If any of these names or locations sounds familiar to you please contact me.

We are trying to research Christian's parents' heritage--his mother's, Eleanor Runyon, is listed in the World Tree listing, going back to Hugenot France. We have not yet been able to find out who Chris's father's parents are. His father's name was John Burrows Estell/Estelle. (He changed the spelling sometime between the Civil War and his death. We will be going back to Hope Chapel to see check out others of the many Estell/Estelles buried there.
