Re: Getting started

Bruce, I knew your father and Maize as he called her, while a student at Cal Poly Pomona in the late 1970s. I am currently in the process of writing a novel and wanted a reference from his book, Inside Foreign Policy. While going through the book I began remembering some of our discussions outside the classroom.

I last saw him and Maize while walking in Claremont Village in 1994.

It has suddenly occurred to me that I may want to do a biography on him after my current project is finished. He had an interesting career under the aegis of the Southeast Asia Cultural Affairs Program, which he told me in conversations, was involved in a lot more in that theater during the cold war and Viet Nam War.

\If you wish to contact me feel free: Bill McCullough

mactrust.wm@gmail.com

Re: Lillie Blue (Esterline)

I am working on this same branch and have come up with a couple of name/spelling variations. One is Lilly Belle Blue, or Balu, or Bleu. Hope this helps. I think if we can find out what county and state she died in we will have a better chance, but I think she was still alive in the 1940's so I don't know how to get those records yet. I'm hoping that the 1940 census will help when it becomes available.

Born around 1878
Married James Jacob Esterline

I'm related through their older son Benjamin who married Pearl Betsy.
Family lore is that Lillie Blue is or was Native American from the Chocktaw Tribe (relocated to Oklahoma)

I have no idea how to find out about her. That branch of the tree stops with her.

You might go on the site and try it. There are other Esterlines. Beware - often typos.

You might try the Cleveland Ohio Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society also

That is not an 1851 death date. That is a "p.o. (promoted on) date of July 1851". The military jargon can be confusing. It makes it even more confusing because the remarks flowed over into the "died" column.

Hi, this is my line and John Wesley is my ancestor. Let me know if I can help. One thing I want to clarify for the record is I do not believe the enlistment papers for John H. Esterline is ours. The name and age is correct so I want to think it is, but it shows that John H. died in 1851 and we know that is not true. Also, in Spencer County, IN he filed his Intentions of Naturalization and said he left Germany through Le Havre, France and arrived in New York on May 15, 1838. That means he could not have enlisted in 1837. If we discount the enlistment papers, we have no other evidence that he was born in Wurzburg. I have noticed some people are posting that info as if it is true, so I try to stop wrong info on the internet. We do know he was born in Bavaria, but we do not know what city.

Hello. I am looking for info on John H. ESTERLINE born in Bavaria Germany. I am his great, great granddaughter. Several years ago someone on here sent me a pic of his son John Wesley ESTERLINE however I have since misplaced the pic and I would dearly love a copy of it. If anyone knows where there are any pics of this line of ESTERLINES please let me know, Ill gladly pay copy and postage costs if need be. Or they can be sent via email to me. Family story goes that he his as a stowaway on a ship from Germany when he was a young boy. Have been unable to find any ship records on him. Has anyone traced this line back any further? I sure would appreciate hearing from you if so!

Gwen

John your grandfather Voney was my grandfather James' brother. John D. Was first married to a Elmira Kurtz Molton and had two sons Reuben John and Lewis Demarion. Then later married Loretta Lovell Walters and had Voney and James. If you contact the Court house in Bryant, Ohio they have Voney's Brith cert.and James'. I have most of the deceased names for Voney and James But none of the living relitives of course. I would like to connect with you and sharpcheddar to compare notes. I also have old photos of Esterline family plus family crest and name history. One photo is possible 4 generation and another of John's sister Orpha. Waiting for reply Kathy.

Chris, I did not write anything on Estelines in Ohio. Our line began in Southern Indiana. Most descendants went to Missouri and Illinois that I remember. I will check further. Of course the recent generations could be anywhere. I think some of the Adam Esterline descendants ended up in OH, but I have not connected Adam to my John, so have no info on that line. Sorry I could not be more help. If I find something I will let you know. Good luck.

Since I compiled my book 20 years ago, I have done some more research, but I still draw a blank on John's parents. John filed his Intention of Naturalization in Spencer County on October 9, 1855, at the age of 33 years (Record of Intentions of Naturalization, Intention Book I, page 171). He left Germany thru Le Havre, France, but I have tedeously gone through the ship records and have not found him. In 1840 there is an 18 year old John Esterline Jr in PA. Could this be ours? Very likely, but don't go propigating this information, since it is unconfirmed. The internet is great, but famous for getting incorrect info our quickly. Is anybody in PA who can researcdh this further? Barb Dicken

Do not rely solely on the information found on the internet. I researched all the records long before there was an internet, and believe me John says he was born in Bavaria. At one point his son says he was born in Prussia. John filed his Intention of Naturalization in Spencer County on Oct 9, 1855 at the age of 33 years (Record of Intentions of Naturalization, Intention Book 1, page 171). The internet is not doing genealogy. It is simply sharing information. You have to do research beyond the internet for accurate information.

Do you have a marriage and death date of Addie? Is she buried in the Floral Grove Cemterey? Also a son George E. Esterline was born in this marriage - do you have additional information about him and date of death?

Cyrus Wesley Esterline married Lizze Glower/Glauer in 1885 and they are my great grandparents.

Any information you are willing to share will be greatly appreciated. Do you have a book or a Floral Grove cemeterey listing?

Thanks.

Jill Blocker

Dear Karen,
I hope you are ready to hear this, but my wife's aunt loaned us a book put together in 1980 by Barbara Ward Dicken that has 756 descendents. I have started my genealogy search since January, 2000, and my said "You've hit the mother load!" Anyway, it has a lot of names but has not been updated for 20 years. It has your Clara Esterline b. 9/19/1883 in IN M. John Shipley, had 3 sons, and d. 1914. As far as I know, there are no records of John H. Esterline's arrival by boat, as the booklet states. Two stories passed down the family are 1) he stowed away, 2) he was taken by his family's creditors. Anyway, I would be glad to share the information with you and for the updates on your part of the family.
