Hello,

My name is Stephen R. Etherington and my line is Micah (Cajor), Mitchell, Robert, Thomas, Richard and me. I live in Deer Park, Illinois but my father Richard was born and raised in Indianapolis. You can reach me at 847-842-0355. Please email me at steveetherington@sbcglobal.net as I have information I'd like to share with you. I was recently in Newark Ohio retracing the lynching of Carl Etherington. Carl's line is Micah, Hartwell, Hartwell, Carl.

My wife and I have been to Versailles, Willisburg and Lawrenceburg. We've also done research at the Kentucky state archives where we handled actual court parchment documents involving Cajor and Mitchell.

I'd love to talk, if possible

John,
Thank you for replying, had a look at Thomas Etherington & have amended his birth date. It is so difficult to verify dates especially when records are difficult to read even on a good day. I don't envy anyone who transcribes old records. I will look at your tree in greater detail later.
Regards

Martin

Janice, as it is over 90 miles from Great Driffield to Barnard Castle, I doubt if there is a connection. There are records for another family of Etheringtons in north Yorkshire on the IGI but I have not studied this family.
Regards,
john Cherry
Brisbane
Australia

Martin, I had a look at your tree and I am afraid you have a mistake in it. You have a Thomas Etherington (b 1720) to Thomas Etherington and Anne Stoke. The original source for this is an LDS Pedigree Resource File I reviewed some time ago and it clearly worng. They didn't marry until the 5/11/1722 in Hull. Their son Thomas wasn't born until 25/3/1732 at Great Driffield, too late to marry Elizabeth Lund in 1747. I have an alternative genealogy on my tree for your family. It is subject to a number of assumptions, but links the scattered records of Etheringtons around Thorganby into a single tree. I could be wrong, but it is far more likely than the clear error in the LDS PRF. This branch is not in my direct line, but I put it onto my public tree to assist another person researching this branch.
Let me know what you think.
Regards
John Cherry
Brisbane
Australia
(ps my Great Great Grandmother was Elizabeth Etherington).

Susan,
just got on the geneology kick. I grew up in Versailles. My dad is David Roberts. My grandmother is Julia Etherington Roberts. My line is Cajor, Mitchell, Robert, Mitchell, Julia, David Roberts, me.
I guess that would make you and I cousins!
I'll have to find out when Terrence was born, but about 3 or 4 years ago, I interviewed my grandmother (Julia Etherington Roberts) for about four hours on video tape. She's still alive (93 years old) and sharp as a tack. I some old pictures going back to Robert Etherington (your great, great uncle?). Was Thomas Etherington the one shot as an innocent bystander?

I would love to give you a call. I'm going to be tied up for the next few nights, but I'll definitely give you a call.
David

Hello All,

My gggrandmother was Sarah Etherington. Sarah (age 21 yrs) married Charles Elson Apr 23, 1876 in Farncombe, Surrey. Her father is listed as Charles Etherington, labourer. I believe these Etherington's were from Lurgashall. I have yet to acquire her birth registration.

The witnesses to their marriage were George and Emily Herrington . I have found them on the 1871 census and they were born in Lurgashall.

Charles and Sarah are in the 1881 census but she is listed as being born in Godalming 1855. Sadly, she passed away abt 1888.

I have traced this Etherington family unit in Lurgashall till the 1861 census. After that, they show up in Godalming. Charles and Sarah Elson name their first son Charles Eli. I had wondered where the name Eli would have come from until I found the Etherington family whose last son is named Eli. Charles (abt 1817) and Sarah (abt 1819)Etherington had; Caroline (abt 1841), Frederick (abt 1842), Mary Ann (abt 1845), Ellen (abt 1846), Mercy (abt 1850), William (abt 1853), Sarah (abt 1855), Charles (abt 1857) and Eli (abt 1859). All are listed as being born in Lurgashall.

Charles Etherington is last listed in the 1901 census living with his son Eli. He died that same year. His wife Sarah is last listed in the 1871 census. I believe she died in 1874.

Let me know if this matches up with anyone else's info. There are quite a few Sarah's that need sorting out.

Cheers,
Shayne

Try looking at 1891 census for Fernhurst (Farnhurst ) Sussex. I have a note on file which says they were all living there then.
I am decended from the Etheringtons from Surrey & Hampshire and have never been able to prove a connection to the Lurgashall families back as far as 1650.
I do, however have a connection to the Bramshot group circa 1685.
Regards, Eian

Etheringtons from Wisborough Green, Sussex

Researching the ancestors of James Etherington, born 1854 in Wisborough Green, Sussex, England. He married Mary King on 29/04/1876 at the Parish Church Hove, both 'of full age'. His father is also named as James Etherington and they are both Labourers, Residence at time of marriage is Hove. Witnesses were George & Sarah Etherington.
Through census records I have traced them up to 1911. They had 9 children, Emma E, 1875, Catherine Mary 1880-1936, George 1883, Annie 1887, Alfred 1889, Albert H 1890, Harry 1893, William 1897 and Thomas 1901.
James became a police Constable & census records show that they moved all over the Sussex area whilst he bettered his career in the Police Force and at the time of the 1901 census he was a Police Sergeant living at Rotherfield Police Station, Mark Cross, Sussex. It is also thought that one of his sons followed in his father's ffotsteps & made a career in the police force.
I have not been able to go any further back than James on the Etherington line & would love to know more but would also like to find out more about his career in the Police Force.

Hello, I found that Micajah (Cajor) was born in 1780 and died in 1838. He would be my great, great, great grandfather (thru son Mitchell). He owned a slave, Charles, in Fayette County. He traded the slave for 26 acres of land. His mother's name was Ann Mitchell, I think. There was a petition filed in Fayette County in 1835 related to the slave transaction. Cajor has a will filed in Fayette County but I have not researched it yet.

Hartwell Etherington is buried in Anderson County, KY...Hope Cemetery.

Are you still searching for your Etherington ancestors?

I live in Sunderland, England, and my grandmother was an Etherington. This was her adopted name, as she was given up at birth to my great grandparents, who were William and Annie Etherington. They had a son George William Etherington, who emigrated to NSW in the early 1900's and married a lady named Millie McCann. Unfortunately, we lost touch after my grandmother's death.
