Hello Turningstones,
Thanks for getting in touch.
I may be related to Phillipe Etienne since my Quebec Etienne ancestors were Huguenots also. I have not made that connection yet with Phillipe. My 8th great grandfather was Jacques Gratiot of Trois Rivieres. He was born in 1627 in that town.
We have a connection with Jacques Gratiot and by extension to his father Leonard and his mother Laurenche Bisson who were born in 1600 and 1610 in France respectively.
I have not made the connection with Jean Godefroy and Marie LeNeuf yet.
May I have a look at your tree for the Gratiot, Godefroy, LeNeuf and Etienne connections?
I am very interested in exploring this further.
Again, thanks so much.
Russell Etienne

Are your Etiennes any relation to Philippe Etienne who lived in a little Huguenot enclave in Trois-Rivieres, Quebec in the late 1600s? (Other Huguenots living there at the time include the family of Jean Godefroy and Marie LeNeuf and the family of Jacques Gratiot.)

The change of name, Etienne to Akins, took place sometime near the end of the 1800's. There was no documentation and it was not recorded in the court system. Best I can tell they all changed at the same time but I have not found a reason for the change. There was a time that being French was not a good thing and even though they were Swiss they had a French name and spoke French. Might like to check my tree for more information or contact me, clemakins@gmail.com.

Dear Natasha,
I do hope you have received my previous email which I sent to you today (2/3/12). As mentioned we Etienne's are
all related. My father's father name was Neil Etienne (aka Ambros) his sibling were: Joseph, Vaugh, Lewis, Green, thelma and Terencia. Ambros children were:
Idris,Oscar,Cecil,Ruthine,Newton, evelyne,Rooney,Theodore,George,Peter. They were all born in Dominica. My Grand-father mother was born in Surinam, she was mixed with chinese. Had my grandfather with Mr Etienne,
when he when to go work in Surinam, he them took her back to Dominica with him. I hope this will throw some light. Please ask your family, if they do know any of the above name, or have they heard of them. many thanks.
I can be contacted on cacoa_dee@live.co.uk
God bless you!
regards
Dee
Wel my grandfather passed on a few months ago but I remeber him telling me that we are all decendants of two brothers chaildren. I am of the 4th generation and so I have met many of our cousins and other relative. Surprisingly even while I am in the Service in the US. Treva's dad and my grandad are first cousins, Antoine and the clan from massacre are the same category. I am from Soufreiere myself but now residing in the US. Well I hope every one is doing well but it would be really good to get that family tree going.

Hello my name is michael Etienne and have little idea about the Etienne family history and would love to know more if anyone has any information. My father is Joesph Etienne and my grandad is Michael Etienne. My dad has two brothers with the Etienne name, Andy Etienne and Treva Etienne plus loads of step brothers as my nan and grandad had seperated and had more children. I would love to get in touch with other relatives or people who know any more relatives within my family. This would be greatly appreciated. Lastly the one thing i do know that our family was part of the slave trade and were brought to dominica by the French and were given a last name in French. This makes it more difficult to track our family history but i am aware we could be originally from Ghana

Thanks :)

Well I am from Soufriere, DOminica and I am an Etienne, from what I was told from greats is that the Etienne'e were two brother children who came to Dominica from Frace, one went to Delice and the other went to Soufriere, and hence expanded. I can ask my Dad if he knew about any Delsols who are related. some of the Etienne and the Henderson's from Grandbay are related, not all of them and I am sure that happened through marriages. we just foun out that there are some etienne's in Penville. met some of them and it went right back to a first cousins of my grandfather. I am in the service in the US and I met a guy from Louisanna who is an Etienne and he insists that his father was from Dominica so I am sure we are related somehow.

good luck.

Plaquemines Parish, LA Etienne Family

Hello. My name is Shana and I am doing research on my family tree. I am looking for information on the Plaquemines Parish Etienne family and the Thompson family.

So far I have a bit of info on my great great grandparents Willis Etienne and Mary Thompson Etienne. Their children were Willie Jr., Jonas, Seagle, Felix, Fred, Susan Etienne Makey, Isabelle Etienne Griffin, Eliza Etienne Miller, Mildred Etienne Cosse, Estelle, Victoria, and Newella.

Willis was born in Point A La Hache, LA around 1872 and died in Phoenix, LA in 1926. I believe his parents were Susan Ettienne and M. Ettienne (Marcellin?).

Mary Thompson and her people are somewhat of a mystery to me. I am not sure when she was born, but I believe she died in Phoenix, LA in 1928.

Any info regarding the Etienne and Thompson families would be much appreciated.

Hi Don,

It is certainly possible that my Etiennes and yours are realted way back when in the Alsace-Lorraine / Belgium / Luxembourg area. I don't have my Etiennes back that far, so I cannot say. All that I have on the Etienne branch of my Ehardt family begins with the marriage of Helen Orth to Dominik Etienne ca. 1925, perhaps in Klein-Beregsau (today Beregsau Mic, Romania). Helen was the granddaughter of Dominik Ehardt, and Dominik is the ancestor that I have in common with the Etiennes.

My Ehardts, by the way, migrated to the Romanian area in 1769 when the Hapsburg Empire was settling southern Hungary. So just maybe some of your Etiennes also migrated to the Romanian area about that time, while other Etiennes (the ones you are descended from) chose to stay put.

Sorry I don't have more news for you.
Jane Ehardt Moore

I have traced my Etienne ancestors back to the 1600s in France. They were Huguenots.
Hope this helps you in your search and good luck.
Russell Etienne

I know that their son Josef lived for a time in Chicago, as he died there in 1980. I am related to this family though my Ehardt grandfather. Thank you for sending me access to your Etienne Family Website.

Jane Ehardt Moore

I see. I was under the impression that there is a family link between the Etienne family and the Delsol family. I suppose that there still could be as the blood lines in Dominica are a bit complicated.

I believe that I am related to some people in Soufriere with the last name Jno Lewis also. It is also my understanding that I am some how related to the Etienne family. My grandfather was Joseph Etienne Henderson of Grandbay.

Do you know if either the Delsol family or the Etienne family have Carib blood? I have always been curious. I do know that many people deny it, but it is always possible due to the history of the island.

Good luck on your search and please let us know what you find out. Take care.

Hi there Delfunk1!

I hope that all is well. Do you by any chance know what town your family is from? That would certainly help. The Delsols in my family are from Scottshead, Dominica.

It is too bad that Joan Etienne has yet to reply. I really think that she can help both of us in our quest/search. Joan's grandfather could be your uncle (I think).

Do you know anything about your roots in Dominica? Do you know anything about the Delsol/Etienne name?

I am still searching myself. I hope to be able to go to Dominica in the future. I have been told that Baptismal certificates and wills hold tremendous information.

Anyway, nice meeting you and good luck.

I know a little but from what I have read, two french brothers arrived in Louisiana and married into the Houma Indian tribe there. Etienne was my great, or great great grandfather, he was Etienne Billiot. His wife was Sedonia Billiot. This information is just from talking with several of my relatives that in the last 20 years I have just met. My mother was a billiot. She had 12 brothers and sisters.

My Etienne Family is of Huguenot ancestry from France and I would like to hear from others who maybe related.
My Etienne ancestors, Jean Etienne and Pierrette Lisonette, arrived from Montauban, France, at Quebec about 1750.
I have traced their descendents and now want to research their ancestors and siblings.
Can anybody help? Would you be interested in what information I may have?
Russell Etienne
