Hi, I am a direct decesendent of Crookman Etienne (my great grandfather). It was my cousin that place the original posting on this site.

I live in England where there is a large contingent of the Etienne family. I am currently making a family tree and would love to know if we are related and if so how you would fit into the tree.

I see. I was under the impression that there is a family link between the Etienne family and the Delsol family. I suppose that there still could be as the blood lines in Dominica are a bit complicated.

I believe that I am related to some people in Soufriere with the last name Jno Lewis also. It is also my understanding that I am some how related to the Etienne family. My grandfather was Joseph Etienne Henderson of Grandbay.

Do you know if either the Delsol family or the Etienne family have Carib blood? I have always been curious. I do know that many people deny it, but it is always possible due to the history of the island.

Good luck on your search and please let us know what you find out. Take care.

Hi there Delfunk1!

I hope that all is well. Do you by any chance know what town your family is from? That would certainly help. The Delsols in my family are from Scottshead, Dominica.

It is too bad that Joan Etienne has yet to reply. I really think that she can help both of us in our quest/search. Joan's grandfather could be your uncle (I think).

Do you know anything about your roots in Dominica? Do you know anything about the Delsol/Etienne name?

I am still searching myself. I hope to be able to go to Dominica in the future. I have been told that Baptismal certificates and wills hold tremendous information.

Anyway, nice meeting you and good luck.

I was wondering if anyone has any information on the possible familial relationship between the Etienne family of Dominica and the Henderson family of Dominica.

My grandfather was Joseph Etienne Henderson of Grandbay Dominica. I suspect that he is somehow related to the Etienne family.

Any information that you have would be greatly appreciated.

I know a little but from what I have read, two french brothers arrived in Louisiana and married into the Houma Indian tribe there. Etienne was my great, or great great grandfather, he was Etienne Billiot. His wife was Sedonia Billiot. This information is just from talking with several of my relatives that in the last 20 years I have just met. My mother was a billiot. She had 12 brothers and sisters.

In response to your message...I believe Virginia last name was either Willis or Williams. She married Charles C. Cager. I believe she was born in Red River, Louisiana. Virginia's mother was named Mariah James-Anderson. Her fathers name is still questionable....B. Williams is what I have heard. Virginia had two known siblings, Leonard Smith and Ada. Leonard Smith, Sr. married Isabelle Cook (daughter of Dicy Morris and James Cook). Isabelle Cook-Smith is my Great great great Aunt. Leonard Smith, Sr. is believed to be one of the founding pastors of Battle Ground Baptist Church (originally organized in Fazendeville “The Village”). Ada had two girls as far as my knowledge…..named Louisa and Cinderella Scott. I’m told, Ada died giving birth to Louisa in the 1880’s. Louisa Scott married my great great great uncle…Bazile Jolicoeur (son of Alexandre & Catherine Clarke-Jolicoeur). Cinderella Scott married Arstide Charles. If you have any questions about the information I have provided…..feel free to contact me anytime. My email is gtclee03@yahoo.com.....and my Cell number is 206 778 6957….my name is Gabriel.
Etienne/ Arkush/ Manley

I am trying to locate descendants of the ARKUSH and MANLEY families who might be able to help me. In the Norwich NY library, I found an older photocopy of a fading family bible record. One line follows:

Herbert Hovey MANLEY b. 1857 in MN, who ended up in Chicago then San Gabriel.

His daughter Dorette MANLEY b. 1889 married Ellis John ARKUSH. They lived in Redwood City, Hillsborough, and Burlingame.

They had Ellis John ARKUSH Jr. b.1914 and Carol Doris ARKUSH b.1915.

Ellis John ARKUSH Jr. married Laura Pearson and had daughter Sharon.

Carol Doris ARKUSH married Robert ETIENNE and had children Robert Jr, Dorelle, and John Roger.

The reason I'm trying to track this line is that the bible record was contributed by a Helen Nicol Tanois(?) of Burbank. I have written to the address given and have not received either an answer or returned letter. The name and address are handwritten and a little hard to decipher. There are parts of this bible record that are just unreadable, and I would love to track down whoever might own the bible to see if the bible record could be re-scanned with today's modern tech. This California line is not directly related to me, but the line from an ancestor is. Grateful for any clues!

My ancestor, Jean Baptiste Etienne came to this country from Florenville, Belgium via New Orleans around 1850. He then travelled up to southern Indiana. I have traced lineage back into Belgium to the mid 1600's. Let me know if you have any other info.

Tiffany,

Check out the messages regarding the name Etie. There seems to be a person in Louisiana who shortened the name and moved to Houson. Hope this helps.

FWIW, my ancestor came through New Orleans around 1850 from Belgium and bound for Leopold Indiana. Maybe there was a sibling or other relation that liked Louisiana and stayed behind.

Just a thought. Good luck and let me know how you make out in your search.

Chuck Etienne

I am at a bit of a loss, not being able to read or speak French, but with one of the online translators, I was able to piece together your message.

My Etienne ancestors are solidly from Florenville, as far as I know, back to the 1600's. If you wish, I could send you a GED file with what I have. Possibly, we can make some connections.

And, maybe you could teach me some French!

The names which are prominent in the family are Raimond Etienne, Jean-Baptiste Etienne, Hugo Etienne, and (Sir) Jean-Joseph Etienne (father of my ancestor who emigrated to USA). My GG grandfather was Jean-Baptiste Etienne born 1812.

Looking forward to communicating with you in the future.

Chuck Etienne

Dear All

I'm researching a family name of EIGHTEEN and one theory I've come across is that the family were perhaps Huguenots who settled in Hadleigh, Suffolk, UK. There is a family living there in the late 16th cent, recorded as AYTTON, but this changes to AITON and then EIGHTEEN(E) appears during the next century in this area of Hadleigh.

Has anyone on the list got experience of Huguenot ancestry as I would like to explore this theory farther?

Any help, information gratefully appreciated.

Many thanks

Julie Williamson
Staffs, UK
researching the family name of EIGHTEEN (one-name study)
