In my family I have a Christopher Etzel m. Maia Topp in Hartford Wisconsin in 1866. Is Hartford near any of these places you listed, Susan?

Christopher was one of 6 sons [Christopher, Frank, Joseph, Albert, August & Philip] of Jacob Etzel and Margareth Winter who were from Saxe-Weimar, Germany and settled in New York City.

I am a descendant of Frank.

Looking for family for said subject. I have a very nice photo of Robert Edwin at age 8 months. I would guess the photo to be from around the turn of the century (1900) plus or minus a few years. It is a studio photo but no studio name on the photo or on folder. I purchased this at a Antique shop for a nominal fee and only wish to find a descendent who is interested in recovering the photo. stella ( holmes) etzel born 11-6-1905 parents robert and elizabeth ( brees) holmes . they was living in daveport i would said around 1940's or so, not for sure only they was living there when her father died in 1944 and they was buried there ( no dates) as far as eward etzel nothing on him or is family. if this sound like a connection e- mail me thanks sheila

My husband grew up in Davenport, Iowa! I thought his family was the only one in Davenport, although possibly one of his uncle's may have lived there too. I will ask my mother-in-law tomorrow. Can you give me a time frame as to when they were there? My father-in-law was Melvin George Etzel m. Helen M. Janssen. His family came from Germany then Butler (Granville), Wisconsin. Are you still looking for information about Christian Etz? Christian, Jr. who died about 1812 was the brother of my 4th great grandmother, Elizabeth Etz, who married Johann (John) Walrad (Walradt, Walrath). I have copies of the wills of both Christian, Jr. and his Father.

Mr grandfather's name was Gottlieb Fritz Etzel. He married Lucia Tietz and came to the US from Germany around 1928. He had two sons Joseph Richard (he just died this March, 2004), and Gottlieb Jacob, my father, who died in December 2003. I knew that my father's father was originally from Bremerhaven. Since both names (Fritz and Gottlieb) are in your family tree there might be some relation. If you believe there is a relation please E-Mail me.

Nicholas Etzel's wife's name was Margaret Otzelberger. The Etzel's and Otzelberger's lived in Menomonee Falls, WI. The Reith's owned a farm on Lilly and Mill Rd. which was passed down to Otzelberger's and Gross's and eventually to my mother's family and has recently been sold and subdivided. They attened St. Anthony's of Fussville now in Menomonee Falls.

I have a brief notation of a Christian Etz. Time frame is wrong but this is what I have. "the 1 March 1811 will of Christian Etz of "Canajohary" mentions his sisters Mary Vanderwerke (who is Anna Maria Etz who marries a Martinus Vanderwerken) Anna is born 23 May 1748. One of Martin and Anna's children end up in Kalamazoo in 1838.

I have a Gottlieb Fritz from Wuerttemberg. There was a brother Christian, possibly some other brothers and sisters. he came to America at least by 1840, settled in New York - New Jersey area.He married, perhaps more than once, and had a son, Adam, who married Charlotte Trust - my great grandparents.

Do you have anything on Melvin George Etzel b. 1919 d.1995 (?). His brother's were Robert Valentine Etzel m. Mabel and Leroy Etzel m. Marilyn.His sister's name is Betty and she's married to Edward Barton.
I have plenty on the Marx-Fellenz ancestors. Marx was Melvin's mother's maiden name. I believe Dad's father's name was Michael. Are you of the same lineage? Just in case you need to know who my hubbs is, he is the third child of Melvin and Helen Etzel. His name is Tom. Let me know if we have a match anywhere.

My father's name was Fritz, he passed away about 14 years ago. My aunt's name is Paula, she still lives in the Black Forest area of Germany, we my family is from. My grandfather's name was Gottlieb.

Hi,

Hartford in only one County away--and was on a major road-way and railway west of Milwaukee..so it is very possible..I have relatives from other towns around the Hartford area, as well..seems to me that onw of the Castenholz/Kastenholz line settled there...Hartford is just off the old ..darn it--I can't think of the name of it--(Watertown Plank Road) but the major road from Milwaukee to Watertown in Jefferson/Dodge County...the main spur of the Railroad going north-west to Minneapolis/St. Paul also ran thorugh this area.

There may have been some related BRAHMs and LAUS's there as well...
