Hello Frank,
I'd love to learn how your family connects to mine or any of the other Eugenis I've found in the Americas. I've seen your progenitors in the historical records and have kept notes on them in case I end up finding a connection. Please stay in touch and share what background you have, and I'd be happy to do the same.
Michelle Eugeni

Dear mleugeni (is it Michelle Eugeni)?

Eugenio who arrived on 11 April 1911 on SS Luisiana is my Great Grandfather. He had a brother Giovanni (John). He originally settled in McKeesport, PA before moving to Tiltonsville, OH. Giuseppe Eugeni (stayed in Italy) was my great great grandfather.

Eugene (Eugenio) married Jennie Zuelli (her father Ernesto Zuelli came over in 1893). They are my father's grandparents. They had two children, Delmer and Edward (my grandfather). My dad (Edward L. Eugeni Jr.) grew up on Maple Street, Tiltonsville, Ohio.

I have been working on my genealogy for a while. Unfortunately, I have much more info on my mother's side (Giuliani (shorten to Julian), Mastropietro (shortened to Pietro), etc. than my father's (we were closer to her side.

I would like to find out if Eugenio Eugeni and Costanzo Eugeni were related. They both came from the same region and province of Italy. I am going to keep moving forward with my genealogy. I will contact you (or post to this site) as I uncover new information.

My name is also Edward. I am Edward Victor Eugeni (will be 32 in a few weeks), and I currently live in Frederick, MD. Feel free to contact me directly via email at eeugeni@comcast.net.

Thank you for the response and the information. I really appreciate it. I was very excited to see your response today!

Wonderful to hear from you! I have been tracking Eugenis in the US in order to locate any possible connections between my great grandfather Costanzo and other Eugenis. Maybe you and I have a distant connection. Do you or someone else in your family have any info on the Eugeni family in Italy? I am eager to follow up. :) Here's what I know of your Eugenio. I hope this info is useful.

I have seen Eugenio in the ship manifests, arriving 11 April 1911 on SS Luisiana. He's listed as being from Falerone, and his father's name is Giuseppe. He was headed for McKeeport, PA.

WWII Draft Registration card shows who I assume to be your Eugenio Eugeni. His DOB is listed as 10 May 1894. Eugenio is an employee of Y&O Coal Co in Glen Robbin, Ohio, living in Tiltonsville. Emergency contact is Jennie Eugeni.

According to Ohio Death records, this same Eugenio died on 7 Nov 1971 in Martins Ferry, Ohio at age 77. Jennie died there 24 April 1973, a widow aged 71.

Then on 7 Aug 1974 a John Eugeni, age 81, died in Martins Ferry.

I see from 1930 Census that John was Eugenio's brother. "John Eugene" lived with his brother "Eugene Eugene" and family (Jennie, Delmer, Edward) on Maple Avenue in Warren Township, Grover Village, Ohio. Both men were born in Italy, arriving in 1911 and 1916, and both were unemployed from coal mines.

The 1920 Census shows a Eugene Eugenio (age 25) and John Eugenio (age 27)--both unmarried--boarding with Zuelli family on Low Road in Elizabeth Township, PA, having arrived from Italy in 1911 and 1913. They are both coal miners.

A few years earlier, in 1917, both registered for WWI Draft (John Eugene age 26, Eugene Eugeneo age 23). They lived in Frank/Elizabeth Twp, worked for Pittsburgh Coal Co as coal miners, and were described as "stout".

Misspellings of our name are common, and John Eugeni is often listed as John Eugene. When he registered for WWII Draft he was still living on Maple St in Tiltonsville, OH, and listed "Eugeneo Eugene" as his contact. DOB 27 Dec 1891 in Falerone, Italy. Listed as having hazel eyes, gray hair, and ruddy complexion. 5'6" tall, weighing 175 pounds. He had a scar above right eye.

Do you know whether John's given name was actually Giovanni? A Giovanni Eugeni re-entered US from Italy in 1932. He had been living in Steubenville, OH before traveling back to Italy for a visit.

Sometimes there are people with same name in the records, and I have split up the Eugenio Eugenis in my notes. There is another Eugenio--a Sicilian--who settled in Brooklyn. Below are his details, useful in case you come across such info later and wonder at his being same person as your great grandfather.

WWI Draft Registration card shows a Eugenio Eugeni, Italian citizen (from Aidone), born Dec 1882, age 37, medium height, large build, living in Brooklyn, working as longshoreman. Nearest relative is Josephine Eugeni.

This Eugenio seems to have arrived in NYC on the SS Algeria, in Feb 1907, aged 25. His last permanent residence was Aidone, Sicily; all of the guys listed around him on manifest are headed to the same address in Brooklyn (467 Carroll St), which might mean they were helping each other out.

This same Eugenio came again to NYC at age 31, on SS Mendoza from Palermo, arriving March 1913. He reported that he's from Caltanisetta, Aidone. He's bound again for Brooklyn. His mother Carmela Raccuglia lived back in Aidone.

My great grandfather Eugenio Eugeni came to the U.S. via Ellis Island on April 10, 1911 (at least according the ship manifest. His last place of residence in Italy was Falerone, Marche. Falerone is located in the Province of Ascoli Piceno.

I am also related to Meekers (through my mother's side, the Pietros....shorten from Mastropierto).

My great grandfather came to New York from Ascoli Piceno in 1906 by way of Naples. I know a few other Eugeni's came to US around that time. I am seeking connections to Eugeni family or Ascoli Piceno.
