04.15.05 - Albert B. Evans, Colonel, United States Army retired, died on April 12, 2005 at the age of 95. Albert was born in Zanesville, Ohio on May 1, 1909 and spent 31 years in the military, serving in Pocatello, Idaho; Alameda; Ft. Levenworth, Kansas; Germany; Arlington, Virginia; Newfoundland; St. Louis, Missouri; Korea and Ft. Mason.
A graduate of Ohio State University, Colonel Evans served his country with distinction and received numerous service awards. Following World War II, Colonel Evans commanded a significant part of the ground operation of the Berlin Airlift, supplying food and supplies to the beleaguered population.
Albert was preceded in death 10 years ago by his wife of 60 years, Edna Ruth Evans. Albert and Edna settled in Sonoma in 1975 and lived in Diamond A for 30 years.
His two sons, Albert B. Evans Jr., of Saratoga and J. William Evans, M.D., of Sonoma survive him. In addition, the deceased had five grandchildren, Martha Evans of Denver, Colorado; Eric William Evans of San Rafael; Ingrid Maria Evans of San Francisco; Nathan John Evans of Foster City and Jenna Lyn Evans, of Sonoma. Survivors also include daughter-in-law, Judith Evans of Saratoga and former daughter-in-law, Constance Evans of Sausalito.
A memorial service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church on Saturday, April 16, 2005 at 1 p.m.
