Jim - I tried to e-mail you the chapter on the Evans family but got an error message instead.

You asked how the Evans's in Amelia County are related to the Evans's in Dinwiddie County. One of Sarah Batte's brother-in-laws was the founder of Petersburg which is the county seat of Dinwiddie County. Robert Evans, son of Sarah and John Evans, died in Petersburg at the home of his son Batte Evans. Batte Evans and Thomas Evans gave despostions on their grandfather's court case from Edgefield County, South Carolina where they were living.

The 1756 John Evans you mentioned is probably the son of John and Sarah Evans. Robert Evans would be his brother. In the court desposition, Thomas Evans gave his desposition in 1814 and said that his grandfather "Trading John Evans" died about 100 years ago. This means that John Evans Jr. died around 1714. One entry mentioned a lost will from around that date. John Evans is a very common name in this family.
