If anyone recognizes this Jeremiah Evans and he is your ancestor, I would appreciate more information on him. I found him while searching for my 2nd gr-grandfather(another Jeremiah) in the census records in Illinois. This Jeremiah was born in Ohio in 1810 and was found in the mortality schedules for 1860 in Mason County IL. My Jeremiah died around the same time possibly in IL. I guess I'd like to know if he is yours, mine, or our relative. Thanks for your help

Elsie May Evans/Allton/Taylor/Naylor is this woman in your tree????

Hello I am searching for information on Elsie May Evans bn Q1 1893 in Dordon, Atherstone. I know quite a bit about her older years but she seems to have ermm got about abit in her younger days marrying three times before it finally stuck. She's been quite hard to track down seen as she's had 4 different surnames within the space of about 10 years.

Elsies parents are Charles Evans bn 1867 and Kate Spare bn 1872.

Husband No one was a man called William Allton bn abt 1894 in Tamworth he married Elsie in 1915 before dying in 1917. From what I can get form records he was discharged from the army on medical grounds - he was epileptic, but as yet don't know how he died so young.

Husband No 2 was Arthur Taylor bn 1886 in Tamworth he married Elsie in Q2 1920 in Tamworth, they had a son Reginald Arthur Victor Taylor bn 29 Nov 1920 in Tamworth. cannot find a death for husband 2 as yet, lots of Arthur Taylors out there.

Husband No 3 was William Greenwood Naylor bn 1884 in Wakefield, they married 27 July 1925 in Wakefield, they had a daughter Jessica May Naylor on 25 June 1925. Both children seem to have been concieved before the marriage, and in the case of Jessica she didn't make it down the aisle before the birth.

Thankfully Elsie stuck with husband no 3 and my 2nd great grandmother was known as a god fearing staunch catholic woman, well she was until I started the tree and found out she was more black widow than pious woman.

I would like to get more info on her especially the Taylor side. Any help greatfully apreciated.

Thanks
Georgina

Cecil I Evans

I am trying to trace our indian heritage so I'm trying to find any information on my great grandfather. Here is what I know:

Cecil Irvin Evans B-6/17/1898 D-9/1979
m - Myrtle Elizabeth Friend B-7/13/1908 D-7/15/1985
Ch - Clarence "Bud" Evans, Geraldine Mae Evans/Painter, Clifford Wayne Evans and Charles Allen Evans

I believe Cecil was born in Illinois, Carlinville area. I know he died in Litchfield Illinois as I was 12 then. I don't have much information at all on Myrtle other than I remember visiting her and she lived with her sister Ann/Annie

Supposedly, Cecil's or Myrtle's father married an Indian Squaw from the Dakotas and kept her hidden away. Does this story sound familiar to anyone?

If anyone has any information on this family, I would greatly appreciate it.

I've got a problem with my William R Evans... For the past 20 years, I've had his wife as Rawsey PORTER...then I found an obit... go to http://www.riversidecemetery.com/ and search the EVANS list. you'll find him in Macon Georgia. where his obit gives his wife as Miss Ella BROWN... unfortuniately, the obit only gives initials for his children, so I can't match them up with my database.

I'm thinking the William in Georgia is not my William, which means my William is NOT the son of Charles Thomas Pope and Judith.

Anyone else have William R. and Rawsey PORTER as Man & Wife?

Her death was no surprise to her ______ has been ready to ______(large portion faded too much to read). Mrs. Evans was known and loved by our people. It needed not the pathos of suffering or the calm resignation of the invalid's latter days to endear her to many here. She was loved in Augusta as she was loved everywhere in Georgia, and in many places in the South, because she was an estimable, heroic Christian lady, gentle among the responsibilities of the household and courageous in all her relations in the world. As the wife of a brave and gallant Confederate officer, she accompanied the soldier in many of his movements, sharing the hardships of the life, and as consort to the active and popular Methodist minister, she accompanied him in his charges and was everywhere the devoted, inspiring and noble woman. Mrs. Evans was a Miss Walton of Stewart County, GA, having been married about thirty years ago, at the age of fifteen, to General Clement A. Evans. She lived to be the mother of eight children, five of whom survived, among them Mrs. Wm. F. Eve, and Mr. Lawton B. Evans, residents and well known in this community. In the late hours of Wednesday, the 12th, fire started licking around the base of an Augusta home. The next morning the home of Judge William F. Eve was in ashes. The loss was estimated at about $20,000. Judge Eve was stunned. Not only had he lost one of the first homes built on Monte Sano, but also a priceless library, nearly 5,000 volumes of historical maternal which belong to his father and father-in-law, Gen. C.A. Evans of War Between the States fame. When Richmond County citizens read about the disaster, they decided to do something. The result was a $10,000 fund to rebuild the home!

BORN IN AUGUSTA: Born March 8, 1851, in Augusta, he attended private schools here and graduated from law school at the University of Virginia in 1870. He turned to a private law practice in Augusta after graduation but soon entered public life, a calling that carried him through life and made him one of the best known, best loved citizens in Richmond County and in Georgia. The governor of Georgia in 1876, James M. Smith, recognized in the young Augusta lawyer a quality which made the governor appoint him solicitor of the Court of Richmond County.

Have more notes, but won't include here.

3	M	ii. He died 6 Apr 1934 in Augusta-Richmond County, GA.

August 26, 1934: U.S. EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM MOURNS EVANS' PASSING. The year 1933-34 brought to the schools of Augusta and Richmond county one tragedy that was shared by the South and the remainder of the nation alike, the death, on April 6, of Dr. Lawton B. Evans, who for 51 years had served continuously as superintendent of schools. Death claimed him after he had suffered for two days with pneumonia. With his passing Augusta and the nation lost one of the most valuable citizens….Dr. Evans literally gave his life to the schools of Richmond County. He entered the system as a teacher 53 years ago at the age of 18 immediately after his graduation form the Univ. of Georgia in 1881 with a master's degree and membership with Phi Beta kappa. Previous to his attendance at Georgia he had gradated from Old Emory College at oxford, GA 1878-1880 where he obtained his A.B. degree at the age of 17 years.

[Portions not quoted in this very long obituary regarding his career and books] Dr. Evans was born October 7, 1862, the son of Clement Anslem and Mary Allen Walton Evans, in Lumpkin, Stewart County, Georgia. Albert EVANS (died young).

6	M	v.	Paul Hinton EVANS was born 1866.

February 23, 1902: PAUL EVANS OF MEXICO is Back in Augusta for Rest and Recreation. The presence in his old home of Mr. Paul H. Evans, brother of Mr. Lawton B. Evans, our popular superintendent of public schools, is a source of pleasure to many old friends. For 12 years Mr. Paul Evans has been a resident of the City of Mexico, and he finds many changes in Augusta since he left here in 1889. Before he left here he was in the employ of the Thompson-Houston Electric Light Company, at its plant on the canal, and in 1889 went to Atlanta for the same company. From there he was sent to Yucatan and remained a year, and from there was transferred to the City of Mexico where he is now chief engineer of the Mexican General Electric Co., this being the agency in Mexico for the General Electric Co of new York, which was formed by the combination of the Thompson-Houston and the Edison interests. Mr. Evans is off on a three month's leave of absence; spent time with his father Gen. Clement A. Evans in Atlanta; and is now with is sister Mrs. W. F. Eve at Monte Sano. He says that Broad Street has been completely metamorphosed since he left here (etc). [This long article goes on to discuss the weather in Mexico, and the price of Mexican silver and American gold, and how cheaply he can live in Mexico, Mexican products, salaries, President Diaz, etc.]

7	M	vi.	Charles Crawford EVANS (died young).

8	M	vii.	Clement Walton EVANS was born calculated 1872. He died 14 Jul 1916 in Guadalajara, Mexico and was buried in Guadalajara, Mexico.

August 22, 1916: CLEMENT W. EVANS BURIED IN MEXICO. Mr. Clement W. Evans, the news of whose death in Guadalajara, Mexico, on July 14th has been received in Augusta, was the youngest son of the late General Clement A. Evans and wife, Allie Walton Evans. He was a brother of Mrs. W.F. Eve and Supt. Lawton B. Evans of Augusta, and Mrs. Robert Stephens of Atlanta, and Mr. Paul H. Evans of Guadalajara, Mexico, and Mrs. George Lippincott of Philadelphia. He left Augusta about twenty-two years ago to accompany his brother, Mr. Paul H. Evans, in the mining and electrical business in Mexico. He had been there continuously ever since, living in various cities in Mexico, and engaged largely in lighting mines in the silver regions. He was 44 years of age at the time of his death, and was unmarried. Mr. Evans death was caused by prolonged attacks of intestinal inflammation, from which it seemed impossible to get relief. His own sickness, lasting five months, and the illness of his brother's wife, prevented his leaving Mexico at the time all American departed from that republic, so that at the time of his death there were only five Americans in Guadalajara. His brother, Mr. Paul H. Evans, was with him at the time of his death. The remains were interred there in July 14th. those who remember Mr. Evans in his young manhood, will recall the splendid ability he brought to his profession of electrical engineering, his lovable nature and engaging manner. He was beloved by a large number of friends here and in Mexico had identified himself with the American colony in Mexican city, by all of whom he was highly regarded.

August 27, 1916: There is another article where the writer says he saw the letter Paul wrote his brother Lawton at the time of Clement's death. I will only repeat part of it: There were but five Americans in the city. Other than his kinsmen, Mr. Paul Evans knew no one of them. The Mexicans were not friendly to the Americans. The Evanses were among strangers. The Sisters of Mercy came to them, and they attached by the bedside of his brother, nursed him with attention and devotion, and prayed for him until he died.

9	F	viii.	Martha Lucy EVANS "Lucy"1 was born 1879. She died 1962 (need to verify).

On October 22, 1907, Doctor Stephens was united in marriage with Miss Lucy Evans. Mrs. Stephens is a daughter of the late Gen. Clement A. Evans, one of Georgia's most distinguished sons. Doctor and Mrs. Stephens have three children : Allie Walton, Emma Simpson and Robert Grier, Jr. As a broad-minded, conscientious citizen, Doctor Stephens keeps well informed concerning all that affects Atlanta's future and in voting for public officials he is careful as to their efficiency. Like his father before him, he is a democrat. He holds membership in the patriotic order of Sons of Veterans, and with his family belongs to the Presbyterian Church.

[A Standard History of Georgia and Georgians By Lucian Lamar Knight]

From Dr. Lawton B. Evans obituary April 4, 1934: "Dr. Evans is survived by his son, Clement A. Evans, 2nd.; his daughter, Mrs. Edward H. Kent; two sisters, Mrs. Robert G. Stephens of Atlanta, and Mrs. George Lippincott of Philadelphia; and a granddaughter, Martha Cassels Evans."

Lucy married Dr. Robert Grier STEPHENS, son of Col. John A. STEPHENS and Emma SIMPSON, on 22 Oct 1907 in Atlanta, GA.
ROBERT G. STEPHENS, M. Sarah died 11 Oct 1902 in Atlanta, GA.

October 13, 1886: Macon Telegraph: It is said that Rev. Clement A. Evans of Augusta will wed Miss Howard of Decatur this week. He will deliver a sermon in Macon next Sunday.

October 12, 1902: DEATH OF MRS. EVANS YESTERDAY. The many friends and relatives of gen. and Mrs. Clement A. Evans of Atlanta were shocked and grieved yesterday by the sad intelligence of the latter's sudden death. A telegram from Gen. Evans to her relatives in this city announcing here death was the first intelligence that she was seriously ill. Mrs. Evans was well known in Augusta, where many years of her life were spent. Atlanta, Oct 11: Mrs. Clement A. Evans died at her residence, 442 Peachtree Street, at 4 o'clock this morning. Her death it is thought was due to heart disease or apoplexy. [portions not quoted]. Mrs. Evans maiden name was Sarah Avery, who was born in Decatur, GA in 1846. She married Mr. Wm. H. Howard, a cotton factor of Augusta, in 1867, and she made that sister her home after her marriage with Mr. Howard until about 1884, when she returned to Decatur after the death of her husband. In 1885 she married Gen. Clement A. Evans, and ever since they have made their home in Atlanta.
RICHARD EVANS (son of HUGH EVANS) and MARY PIERCE, wife of Richard

Today I visited an Ohio town and found the family Bible for this family going back to the birth of Hugh Evans Oct 7, 1730 and then listing his children of which Richard is there(Richard 6 Jun 1764). It appears the Bible was in Richard's family and it contains much info about the births of his children that should be interesting to anyone connected to or researching this family.

Please advise if you are connected to this family and if you are interested in a copy of the info. My hobby is finding old Bibles and tracing modern descendants to return either the Bible (when available for sale and cheap enough I can afford it) or just making copies of the data and trying to find the family member interested to share. There is not a charge by me for any of this---I do love to see the info with family who care. This Bible was not for sale but I did make copies of the info.

Thanks.
Earlene Scott
Bible Detective
I'm looking for any information on Lela or Gene Evans. Lela was my great grandmother and married a Stanley Miller. She died young, and her two daughters were sent to live with Stanley Miller's sister, Delsie Miller Stolsig. Gene (maybe Eugene?) Evans was Lela's father. The only date I have is my grandmother's birthdate in 1921, so I would assume that Lela was born c. 1895 and died c. 1925, and Gene was probably born c. 1870.

I'm looking for any possible relatives of the above couple. They married in Everton, Liverpool in 1909, but no father was given for Sarah on the cert.
William was a baker, born in Liverpool abt 1888 (not sure about Sarah, but probably West Derby 1888), his parents: John Henry Evans, a Sawyer who was born in Chester and Elizabeth '??' born in York (& they had 5 other children).
I think Wilm & Sarah had a son George in 1912, who may have died in infancy, and they also had Doris in 1914 (my grandmother). Would love to know if there were other children. Doris married (George Andrews) and moved to central Scotland. I might have found a death cert for Sarah J Lloyd, if she also came to Scotland, but hope to find someone to do a Reg House look-up for me (death 1973 in Larbert, Stirlingshire?).

Thomas Evans - Coal worker Yorkshire/Nottinghamshire

Hi

I'm struggling to trace my husband's grandfather Thomas Evans. Thomas and his wife Harriet Limb were married in Mexborough Parish Church in Yorkshire on 9th September 1907. They were both living in New St, Mexborough at the time.

Thomas's age on their marriage certificate is 28 and Harriet's is 23. Thomas's father is also Thomas (snr) both listed as labourers; however, Thomas (jnr) was known to work in the coal industry.

I don't believe Thomas (jnr) or Harriet were born in Mexborough and they later moved on to Adwick Le Street, where my husband's mother (Sarah) was born on the 10/9/1916. They had a number of children - but Thomas disapproved of Sarah's wedding to my father-in-law, Albert Nutton from Huddersfield and disowned her.

Harriet died in Golcar, Huddersfield in 1968 - which shows that she didn't share the same feelings as her husband. From this I presumed that Thomas (jnr) must have died beforehand - possibly somewhere in South Yorkshire.

Harriet's family were also coal workers and I've been able to trace her family as they travelled from Leicestershire, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire to Leicestershire possibly following jobs in the coal industry. Could Thomas's family have done the same?

As there seems to be loads of Thomas Evans with fathers also called Thomas all working in the coal industry - I've struggled to pin-point him in any of the census documents.

Being an impatient soul, I'd rather not have to wait until the 1911 census so would be grateful for any ideas/help/info.

Thanks in advance
