KUDOS for this wonderful contribution to the Eveleth family!

I trace back to Alma Eveleth who married Edmund Wrigley in Philadelphia.Their son, John Eveleth Wrigley is my great grandfather. Alma is a daughter of John Henry Eveleth who married Mary White in Shrewsbury NJ.

I have traced back to Sylvester, but certainly not with the quality of work you have done.

I have a photo of Alma c. 1865...and one of John eveleth Wrigley. I would be happy to share it with you if you give me your e-mail address. Would also be willing to fill out any information on their descendancy if you would like it.
History of the Eveleth Family

In 1975 I published for a limited subscription "History of the Eveleth Family, 1600-1970", covering the descendants of Sylvester Eveleth of Ipswich, MA. This was long before PCs, and I did not have an electronic copy. However, I have now scanned the manuscript and it is available to anyone interested at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~butcher/Eveleth/. The entire document consists of 10 pdf files (450 text pages). They are images, not OCR, but there is an index. There is no cost or copyright on the material, but please acknowledge the source if used.

Jon Butcher

That sounds about right for the time. This is
a branch of my son's grandmother-in-law's line.
Clarice Montgomery is 92 and still keen on
finding out more on her family. I'll give you
a little more detail when I reload the Montgomery
file. Her people turn up in Indiana, and one
now deceased researcher said Harriet was from
RI. Taggert also makes sense for RI. She married
Hiram Harlow, which also suggests New England.

I went to school in RI and met my wife there.

Wbrown@uwinnipeg.ca

I've contacted my sons' father-in-law, who is the
descendent. Then I was able to check the Indiana
census. It lists Hiram Harlow, age 41, and
Harriet Harlow, born in R.I., age 41. That would
be 1808 or 1809, not that far from your approx-
imately 1805.

7 children born in Ohio and Indiana.

Hiram was born in England, and there are two
other Harlows, clearly his parents, John and
Elizabeth, aged 66 and 68, both born in England.

Can you give me any sources on the Eveleth family.

I much appreciate this tip and sorry it has
taken so long to get back.

wbrown@uwinnipeg.ca

I'm not real sure, but I've found a George with a half-sister "Hattie" among the Eveleths in my file. I don't have much info about any of the siblings of this George and I don't know whether the father ran a railroad. But what I have is this:

James Mirick Eveleth, b. 20 Apr 1811 in Princeton, MA, m. Sarah P. Nicholson on 15 Sep 1836 in Princeton, MA. They had the following children:

George Myrick Eveleth b. 24 Sep 1837
Eliza Ann Eveleth b. 15 Nov 1838
William Hartwell Eveleth b. 15 Jun 1840
Charles Theodore Eveleth b. 19 Aug 1842
Sarah Sophia Eveleth b. 15 Jul 1844 in Princeton, MA

James Myrick Eveleth m. 2nd Nancy E. Rugg on 22 Nov 1845 in Princeton, MA. They had the following children, all born in Princeton, MA:

Harriet E. Eveleth b. 29 Jan 1847
Mandana A. Eveleth b. 06 Aug 1848
James Edwin Eveleth b. 15 Feb 1850
Mary Louise Eveleth b. 29 Nov 1852
Albert Coburn Eveleth b. 07 Aug 1853
Susan Almira Eveleth b. 28 Mar 1856
Frank W. Eveleth b. 20 Jan 1859
Nellie M. Eveleth b. 08 Jan 1860
Charles Appleton Eveleth b. 11 Sep 1862

If you want more info on this family, let me know.

My neighbor's great great grandfather's name was George Eveleth from Maine or New Hampshire. They believe he was adopted by the Eveleths and his real last name was Braun. George and his sister Hattie worked on the railroad that his father (Eveleth) owned. George married Jesse Groves and had a son--Francis Lovewell (Lowell) Eveleth. We believe he was born in the mid-1800s.

Any additional information on this line would be greatly appreciated.

My notes on the family show Harriet as a daughter of Isaac Eveleth (bp. 29 Aug. 1779 Seekonk, MA, d. Cincinnati, OH prior to 1858, mar. Newport, RI Friends Meeting 21 Nov. 1799 Alma Taggart). Isaac was in the 6th generation of the family in America (Isaac, Isaac, Job, Isaac, Sylvester).
Re: EVELETH family of MA/NH

I completed a manuscript history of the Eveleth family (to 1970) in 1975. A copy is deposited with the New England Historical Genealogical Society, Boston.

Ephraim Eveleth was born 11 May 1770 in Lancaster, MA, son of Isaac Eveleth and Eunice Hudson. He died in 1815 in Keene, NH. By his wife Diana Darling he appears to have had approximately ten children, but only two seem to have survived:
- William (ca. 1803-1871 of Gray, ME, mar. Emmeline R. Marse
- Daniel (22 Feb. 1811 Keene, NH - 12 July 1885 Chelsea, MA), mar. Mary Hill Stevens.

William Sanford Eveleth was born in Washington, DC in 1797 and is in the 6th generation of the family in America. In 1812, aged 15, he was with his father when their ship was captured by the English. While a prisoner he became fluent in French, learned from some French officers also in captivity. He was accepted at West Point in 1813. William's father was Ebenezer Eveleth b ca. 1765 Ipswich, MA, son of James Eveleth, who was a ship captain and married Sarah Sanford. Some info on Ebenezer's daughter Sarah (Eveleth) Maynadier is in "Principal Southern Families".

My collections on the Eveleth family show that he had a son Edward, born 28 Nov. 1905 Sturgis, SD. This info was collected 30 years ago, and I am not sure of the source at this time.
